Recently had a fantastic trip from Melbourne to beautiful beachside Sala resort. As 2 women travelling, we felt very safe and thoroughly enjoyed all the resort had to offer. Sala provided fantastic tours and also allowed us to personalise our own tour. From the beautiful sunsets every night following happy hour, to the comfortable villa with our own pool. Buffet breakfasts were memorable, with a wide variety of food options, along with regular chats with Tony the head chef. The team also cooked our fish we caught on our tour for us at dinner - spectacular!! Special thanks to Korn who made our stay special with his warmth and friendship. Thank you Sala Resort - I really hope I can return before too long 🇦🇺🇹🇭
We enjoyed our 3-night stay at SALA Mai Khao Beach Resort while visiting friends who were staying in the area. We had never stayed in Mai Khao before, and as WOH members, we were excited to try a Mr & Mrs Smith property affiliated with Hyatt.
We originally booked a Deluxe Balcony Room, but about a month before arrival, the hotel contacted us to let us know about construction that would be taking place on the property during our stay. They offered to upgrade us to a Pool Villa, which turned out to be an amazing room type. The villa had a large private pool with two lounge chairs, an additional outdoor sitting area, a spacious outdoor bathroom area, and a nicely appointed indoor space. A couple of things to note for anyone considering this room type: all aspects of the bathroom are outdoors, including the toilet, shower, sinks, and bathtub, and the bed is extremely firm.
All of the staff we encountered were warm and friendly. We also really appreciated that the hotel proactively contacted us about the construction well before our arrival and offered not only the room upgrade, but complimentary lunch buffet each day, as well as a Thai set dinner on an evening of our choice.
The food at this property was outstanding. It's rare to stay at a hotel, 5-star or otherwise, where the food itself is memorable, but the Thai dishes here were particularly good. Highly recommend trying their Thai curries. We had friends come to our hotel for dinner one evening, and they even commented that the food at SALA was much better than at another nearby 5-star hotel where they were staying.
As June begins low-season, other than one evening when the hotel was hosting a large dinner party, the property felt very quiet during our stay. We would see some guests at breakfast, but outside of that, we generally only encountered a few people around the main pool, during meal times, or having a late-night drink. It made the property feel especially peaceful and relaxing.
While many visitors to Phuket head south of the airport, Mai Khao is located to the north and has a completely different atmosphere. The area is quiet and tranquil, and the beach is beautiful, with golden sand and gorgeous sunsets. We think we may have found our new favorite area of Phuket.
Also want to mention that if in Mai Khao, and you love dogs and/or cats, we highly recommend visiting the Soi Dog Foundation nearby to see the work of this incredible rescue organization.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at SALA Mai Khao. The combination of the beautiful and peaceful setting, excellent food, warm service, and wonderful Pool Villa made this a memorable stay. We would definitely consider returning the next time we're back in Phuket and highly recommend the Mai Khao area for anyone looking for a quieter part of the island.
Wow what a hotel, the staff here were amazing, so so friendly, attentive and always went the extra mile, food was also amazing always cooked freshly with a brilliant buffet section , would definitely recommend 💙
Always a pleasure to return to this beautiful part of Thailand and particularly Sala. Nothing is ever a problem at this.hotel and you are made to feel very special from the moment you arrive. The pool villas are luxurious and quaint and the resort is kept immaculate but it’s the staff that make the difference. Tony the executive chef is a master of his craft and a pleasure to chat with. Annie, Bee, Ken, Anna, Tiger and the whole reception team were outstanding. Our return is it is already booked.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional Stay – One of Our Favourite Resorts in Thailand!
Our stay at SALA Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort was nothing short of exceptional! Easily one of our family’s favourite hotels and holiday experiences.
We were fortunate enough to stay in an upgraded Two-Bedroom Pool Villa, which was beautifully designed and easily one of the most spacious and luxurious villas we have ever stayed in (and we’ve stayed in quite a few!).
The resort itself is stunning, with expansive tropical grounds opening onto an incredible stretch of long, quiet and pristine beach. The facilities are equally impressive, including a terrific spa, well-equipped gym and two beautiful communal swimming pools, should you ever tire of your own private pool!
With much of the resort consisting of private villas, the communal areas, restaurants and bars never feel crowded. There is a wonderful sense of peace and exclusivity throughout the property. This was something our family absolutely loved, although those seeking a lively resort atmosphere may find it a little too quiet.
One thing worth mentioning is the location. SALA Phuket is situated in a quieter, more secluded part of the island, so exploring Phuket’s busier tourist areas requires some travel. The resort is very much a destination in itself, with a great selection of activities for couples and families. Our holiday was all about relaxation, and we honestly had no desire to leave during our five-night stay, apart from a quick visit to the nearby local shops and restaurants.
The food and beverage experience was outstanding, with quality, variety and service consistently exceeding our expectations.
A special mention must go to Executive Chef Tony, who was genuinely one of the most engaging and accommodating chefs we have encountered during our travels in Thailand. Nothing was ever too much trouble, including preparing special requests for our children that weren’t on the menu. Having experienced other five-star resorts where such requests can be met with reluctance, it was refreshing to see a team so genuinely invested in making every guest’s experience special. Chef Tony and his team deserve enormous credit.
What truly sets SALA Phuket apart, however, is the people. Some of the warmest, friendliest and most professional hospitality staff we have experienced anywhere in the world. Their genuine care, attention to detail and consistently exceptional service made our family holiday even more memorable.
Having spent over 25 years working in the hospitality industry, I have a genuine appreciation for the effort, leadership and culture required to deliver this level of service. It doesn’t happen by accident, and the team at SALA Phuket should be incredibly proud..
Overall, SALA Phuket exceeded our expectations in almost every way. A beautiful resort, exceptional facilities, outstanding dining and, most importantly, an incredible team of people who genuinely care about their guests.
Our family left with wonderful memories, and this property has firmly established itself as one of our favourite resorts in Thailand.
A very well-deserved 5 stars. We cannot recommend SALA Phuket highly enough and genuinely cannot wait to return!
