- Mandapa A Ritz Carlton Reserve

As a resort surrounded by the Ayung River in Ubud, a district known for its natural beauty, Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve captures both the magic of Bali and the serenity of seclusion. The charm of this hotel lies not only in its spiritual and cultural richness, but in the joy of simply letting go. Here, surrounded by verdant rice paddies and ancient temples, guests will find joy in escaping daily distractions while turning to more relaxing endeavours, whether practicing yoga in a peaceful pavilion, biking through nearby villages, experiencing the local Balinese cuisine, or surrendering to pure bliss at the hands of an experienced spa therapist.
Although I wasn’t staying at the resort, I visited Ambar for lunch, and the experience completely exceeded my expectations.
The setting is simply breathtaking, overlooking the lush valley with a peaceful atmosphere that is difficult to describe. The Japanese food was outstanding, beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavor.
What impressed me even more was the hospitality. As a Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite member, the team surprised us by offering our coffee, espresso, juice, and water as a thoughtful courtesy. It was a small gesture, but it perfectly reflected the genuine warmth and generosity of the team.
A special thank you to Agung for his kindness and excellent service. His professionalism and hospitality made our visit even more memorable.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit the riverside because it was fully occupied, but the team handled the situation with courtesy and made us feel truly welcomed.
Mandapa is more than just a beautiful resort—it delivers an exceptional guest experience. I will definitely return, this time as a hotel guest.
We came to Mandapa for a two-night stay after Amankila, and it exceeded our expectations. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Our butler, Nessa, was always available, incredibly attentive, and seemed to anticipate our every need before we even asked. She is truly an asset to the hotel.
I rarely write reviews, but this hotel deserves the recognition it deserves.
From check-in to check-out, the entire team made us feel genuinely cared for. The level of hospitality, attention to detail, and personalized service was outstanding.
Having just come from Amankila, we can honestly say that Mandapa is absolutely on par with the Aman resorts in Bali when it comes to service. We would not hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly luxurious and memorable stay.
Our stay at Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, was undoubtedly one of the most memorable resort experiences we have ever had.
The property itself is beautiful, with breathtaking views, a serene atmosphere, and a setting that perfectly captures the spirit of Bali. However, what truly sets Mandapa apart is the extraordinary warmth and attentiveness of its people.
A special mention must go to our Patih, Tapsir, whose professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made our stay unforgettable. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our visit was seamless and enjoyable.
We were also deeply impressed by the culinary team. My wife initially found it difficult to adjust to some of the breakfast offerings. When the Head Chef learned of this, he personally came to speak with us and took the time to understand our preferences. The following morning, several Indian breakfast dishes were specially prepared for us, and they were absolutely excellent. It was a thoughtful gesture that reflected a genuine desire to make guests feel at home rather than simply accommodate a request.
One gesture, however, touched us in a particularly personal way. During a casual conversation, my wife mentioned to another member of the team that our son back home in India would soon be turning three. We never raised it as a request, and our son was not even traveling with us. Somehow the information reached our Patih, Tapsir, who thoughtfully arranged a gift for our son along with a personalized note. It was completely unexpected and something he certainly did not have to do. The fact that the team paid attention to such a small detail and turned it into a meaningful gesture spoke volumes about the culture of care at Mandapa. It is a memory that our family will cherish for a long time.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the cultural walk and the curated experiences that allowed us to connect with Balinese culture in a meaningful way.
Many luxury resorts offer beautiful rooms and stunning scenery. What makes Mandapa truly special is its ability to create genuine human connections and memorable moments. Our sincere thanks to Tapsir, the Head Chef, the culinary team, and everyone at Mandapa who made our stay so extraordinary.
We left with wonderful memories and hope to return in the future.
This was easily one of our top stays anywhere. The location is incredible, and our pool villa felt like a dream. We swam constantly, with the sound of the Ayung River flowing past adding an extra layer of serenity.
Our patih, Nessa, was extremely sweet and endlessly helpful with our many idiosyncrasies. So was Sadhu. The vintage Volkswagen tour was great fun, as were our guided excursions around North Ubud—to temples, rice terraces, and local artisans from whom we collected art. Jatiluwih, in particular, is remarkable.
The food was exceptional as well, and our cooking class was phenomenal. The dance performances at Sawah Terrace added a dreamlike sense of authentic connection with Balinese culture, while the cocktails at sunset at Ambar were among the top 1% of creations we have had anywhere.
My only suggestion, as a coffee snob, would be to create a more thoughtful Indonesian coffee experience—perhaps with pour-overs, as the Four Seasons Jimbaran does—showcasing exceptional Balinese single-origin beans. Luckily, we found wonderful beans at Ubud Coffee Roastery, just seven minutes away, and made our own coffee in the mornings. But this is a very minor complaint. Overall, the entire experience was impeccable.
The spa is jaw-droppingly beautiful, the treatment rooms expansive, and the therapists top-notch.
We were truly spoiled.
Mandapa genuinely earns its “Reserve” distinction—this is by far the most exceptional Ritz-Carlton property we have ever experienced. From the moment we arrived, every aspect of our stay was impeccable. For travelers considering the accommodations, the entry-level suites are simply the best base rooms of any luxury resort we’ve visited, offering an incredible amount of space and comfort. We were incredibly fortunate to receive a complimentary upgrade to a villa, which ended up being the absolute cherry on top of a flawless stay.
While the property doesn't currently have an Indian chef on staff, the culinary team went completely above and beyond to accommodate our specific Indian breakfast requests every morning. Their willingness to tailor the menu to our preferences speaks volumes about their hospitality. As a point of comparison, we visited the nearby Four Seasons for lunch during our trip, and found Mandapa to be significantly more polished and refined as a property.
The true highlight of Mandapa, however, is the people. A massive thank you to Jauron for the wonderful, engaging chats, and to our butler, Agun, for seamlessly handling all the little things that elevated our daily routine. I apologize if I have misspelled your names, but I sincerely hope this message reaches management as an acknowledgment of the time, energy, and genuine warmth you invested in making our trip so memorable.
