Impressive Nest is exactly the right name
We had the time of our lives at Maya Sanur. I genuinely wish we didn’t have to leave.
The resort itself is beautifully designed. It’s huge, but somehow never feels huge — the different wings are laid out so thoughtfully that everything feels close and easy to get to. There’s a real sense of space without ever feeling inconvenient.
The pool was probably the highlight for me. The view is just incredible, with the ocean sitting right behind it, and there is something very special about starting the day there.
Our very first lunch at Tree Bar after checking in pretty much set the tone for the whole stay. The food was delicious, and the kids’ menu deserves a special mention — it’s extensive, thoughtfully done and, wonderfully, is complimentary when the adults order from the main menu. It felt like someone had actually thought about what families need rather than just putting together a token kids’ menu.
The staff were just fantastic. The team at Mayasari in particular became part of the rhythm of our mornings, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a nicer bunch of people to start the day with. The gym is perfectly sufficient, the food throughout the resort is genuinely tasty, and the pool staff are wonderfully attentive without ever being intrusive.
There’s something about Maya Sanur that makes you settle into holiday mode very, very quickly.
I loved this place. More than I expected to. And by the end, my only real complaint was that I had to leave.

100% satisfaction, looking forward to our next stay
We absolutely loved our stay at the Maya Sanur Resort and Spa. One of favourite experiences was that we both did the Indonesian cooking class under the wonderful guidance of Chef Sugiana. Amongest beautiful surroundings Chef Sugiana gave us great insight into traditional Indonesian dishes. We had so much fun and a fantastic feast to dine on. Our gorgeous hostess Cahya was also outstanding and could not have made us feel more special. When you stay take full advantage of all the experiences this great resort has to offer, you will not be disappointed.
Good but not great and basics need improving
A good hotel, but basics need improving. Key things for me:
- I don’t expect to have to ask for the shower gel to be refilled twice in our room during our 5 night stay. It gets serviced daily yet this was never checked?! And the ladies toilets by the pool too. Of the two dispensers, one was empty on arrival, both empty by day 3 of our stay and again I had to alert the hotel to refill.
- don’t bother with the butler service. We paid £300 extra on our stay for this ‘benefit’ which was essentially a WhatsApp service to reception. We had assumed it was a physical person, but it’s not. Other hotels in Bali offered us this service as standard without an additional cost.
- even with this butler service, we nearly missed a full moon dinner on our last night, because they didn’t tell us! We happened to find at about it chatting to a lovely waitress at lunch a previous day.
- service is shockingly slow. Drinks take at least 30 mins to come, and even if you order a meal together, they often struggled to serve together. They also take allergies very seriously (and rightly
So) but multiple times the food didn’t come as ordered (ie with paprika, herbs, not plain etc) and had to be remade. Not usually with kids who often waited 45 minutes plus for a simple snack lunch!
Staff were lovely, but we experienced this all over Bali. It’s not a true five star for me.

Disappointed
Disappointed! I m talking about what I expected from 5 luxury stars hotel. I was so excited to stay at this hotel,after reading some reviews , pictures on the website and the rating. But I am disappointed. I am indonesian, I know that even 4stars hotel in Indonesia feels luxurious let alone 5 stars, and I have stayed at few 5stars hotels in Indonesia and some other countries. It says luxury 5 stars hotel..but I don't feel like it.when i booked this hotel I was imagined there will be sunbeds by the beach, nice huge pool as it pictured on the website, but no. They only have 1 set of sunbeds 4 sets of bean bags by the beach.that's about it. The pool is small for huge hotel, except if you stay at lagoon pool rooms then you can swim at long private pool. the sunbeds mostly old and dirty, dry leaves everywhere make it looks not clean. Breakfast not brilliant. The location is good, when you go out from front of hotel, there are lots shops, massages shops, supermarkets, and if you go out from the back of the hotel, is the sea side. Beautiful walk along the beach and its not that far from big Icon mall. There were few problems also in the room but the staff were quickly solved them. The staff however are wonderful, polite and always great us with smile, that's why I give 3 stars, otherwise I would give 2 stars. Overall I wouldn't stay here again. Im not trying to knock it out, I was just give you an honest opinion.
We loved Maya, we’ll definitely be back!!!
The stay at Maya!! Oh wow!! The breakfast amazing and the variety., and so many sweets and even their jams are made on the premises. The restaurants are all excellent and great value. The rooms were incredible! And huge!! Made such a difference. The sweets and fruit in the room, the turndown of the beds in the afternoon, the staff are also perfection! So quiet, with nature all around and yet walk out the front door and your on the Main Street with plenty of shopping. The beach is super clean and the water crystal clear. It is quite tidal but made no difference to us swimming at the beach. Can’t say enough great things. My husband is super fussy and he loved it!! We’ll be back!!!
