A Wonderful First Stay at Mulia Resort Nusa Dua

We have just returned from our first stay at the Mulia Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, and overall it exceeded our expectations.

The resort is large, but surprisingly it never felt overwhelming once we settled in, and it certainly didn't impact our enjoyment of the holiday. The grounds are immaculate, the rooms are beautifully presented, the pools are stunning, and the breakfast is one of the best we've ever experienced.

One of the highlights for us was the nightly entertainment on the stage. It created such a lovely atmosphere each evening and was something we genuinely looked forward to. We also dined at several of the restaurants throughout our stay, and every meal was outstanding. The quality of the food was exceptional, with plenty of variety, and we never felt like we were wanting for anything.

The only area that felt a little underwhelming was the check-in experience. Given the size of the resort, it felt quite transactional and lacked the personal touch you often expect from a luxury property. It was efficient, but it did feel a little like moving through a production line. Once we were checked in, however, the warmth and friendliness of the staff throughout the resort more than made up for that first impression.

A couple of small suggestions for the resort would be to add more rubbish bins around the pool areas, as we noticed guests often left cups, plates, and rubbish behind because there wasn't an obvious place to dispose of them. During busy periods, the staff also seemed stretched trying to keep up with clearing used plates around the pools and in the restaurants. These are only minor observations and certainly didn't detract from our stay.

A few tips for future guests:

If you're looking for an affordable beach massage, head north along the beach where you'll find a massage hut offering excellent value (200,000 IDR). Go earlier in the day to avoid the crowds and the dogs!

If you're after a budget friendly lunch, head south along the path to Nusa Dua Beach Grill. It's right next door to the resort and is a great option if you're looking for a more casual meal while staying on the beachfront. My kids loved the pizzas!

If you're travelling with children and need a nanny, I can't recommend 'Asti Swastini ~ Private Family Nanny ~ Bali' highly enough. She is a trained nurse, a mum of three, an excellent swimmer, and is incredibly caring, reliable, and professional. She also has a police check and National ID. She came to our resort daily and was absolutely AMAZING.

Thank you to everyone at the Mulia Resort for making our first stay so memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and would happily return.

Too big for its own good

We stayed in peak season. Had to wait for a table for breakfast. Had to save pool beds at 6am. Couldn’t get a restaurant booking before 8:30pm. A steamer took an hour to reach our room.

Whilst the resort is clean, grand and well maintained - it doesn’t feel luxurious.

I heard they have 1,000 rooms across the 3 resorts. We’ve stayed at similar in Dubai and it felt more personal.

Stay elsewhere.
