Over and above

Location was close to what is required outside of the resort. We stayed in the adults section and had access to all the resorts restaurants and pools which where all fantastic. During our 6 night study our room was cleaned on a daily basis to perfection. Daily breakfast lunch and dinner was a buffet style which provided all types of foods. Great if you are into that on a daily basis. Overall the staff couldn't do enough for us and provided us with very memorable moments. Definitely will be back thanks to all.

Lovely hotel, but the Club upgrade made a huge difference

We had a lovely 10-night stay at Bali Tropic, although I think our experience would have been quite different without a Club room.

The Club rooftop was the highlight: infinity pool, swim-up bar, excellent service, breakfast available to pre-order and afternoon snacks. It also meant we could reliably get a lounger. This was important because there simply aren’t enough loungers around the main pool and particularly on the beach, with lots being reserved with towels.

The resort itself is beautiful, with immaculate tropical grounds and a traditional Balinese feel. Our room was huge, comfortable and full of character, and I loved the large freestanding bath. The staff were fantastic throughout, genuinely warm, helpful and attentive, and everywhere was spotlessly clean.

The location was a real plus for us. The hotel is at the quieter end of the Nusa Dua/Tanjung Benoa beachfront, so it feels peaceful without being isolated. There’s a lovely beachfront path stretching past the other resorts, which is brilliant for early morning walks or runs and watching the sunrise. At the front of the hotel there are shops and restaurants within walking distance, a supermarket almost opposite and a laundry that will even return your clothes to reception. Bluebird taxis are incredibly cheap and easy to use, so we ate out at lots of different places and found it a great base for exploring.

The beach itself is attractive and peaceful, although the sea becomes extremely shallow at low tide, so it isn't ideal if you want to properly swim.

The food was probably the weakest part for us. We stayed B&B rather than all-inclusive and generally found the à la carte food better than the buffet. As a vegan, I was particularly surprised by how limited the options were given how brilliantly Bali generally caters for plant-based diets. Even breakfast could be quite sparse.

One slightly disappointing note came at the end of our stay. Having stayed for 10 nights with two rooms, we asked whether we could keep one room until 4pm rather than checking out at 12pm. They offered us until 1pm free of charge, but wanted $50 to extend it to 4pm. Of course hotels are entitled to charge for late checkout, but given the length and value of our stay, this felt a little excessive and unfortunately left a slightly bad taste at the end of an otherwise very enjoyable stay.

Overall, we really enjoyed Bali Tropic. Exceptional staff, beautiful surroundings, spacious rooms and a fantastic location. I’d happily return, but I would definitely book a Club room again.

Absolutely beautiful resort. Exceeded expectations

My husband and I stayed at Bali Tropic resort and Spa for a week away in August and absolutely loved it. We didnt want to leave. The location was perfect (right on the beach), the room was gorgeous. The swim up bar fantastic, and all the staff were super friendly and lovely. I had googled a bunch of things I wanted to do while in Bali, and we did do some of them, but we had such a great time relaxing at the hotel that we spent most of our holiday there and barely left the resort. Definitely want to go back and stay for longer.

Bali Tropic Resort & Spa

We - a family of 4, with 1 6 and 15 year lads - were lucky enough to spend an incredible 14 nights at the Bali Tropic Resort and Spa. I am reluctant to give 5 stars, as I think this would mean something would have to be absolutely perfect, but here we are! We booked via TUI who then booked through Gold Medal. We had very little customer support rom TUI when our baggage was delayed but I'll review them separately!

On arrival, we were made to feel very welcome - drinks, hot towels and just pure kindness and warmth. Two of our suitcases had been delayed and the team were so sympathetic - we genuinely felt like they cared. The Customer Relations manager (I'm so sorry that I can't remember your name, Sir) was brilliant and checked in with us throughout our stay. The hotel reception is beautiful and authentically Balinese like the rest of the hotel.

We stayed in two Deluxe Bungalows, and these themselves were fantastic. I can't remember the numbers but we were close to the pool and reception area - wonderful. The rooms had everything you want - with amazing walk-in showers and a huge bath. Our room had the biggest bed I've ever stayed in, and the lads had two huge single beds in theirs. A/C was great. Simply put the rooms were brilliant. I read some reviews that said the rooms were 'tired' but I honestly do not agree. The hotel was spotless and the staff take real pride in making sure it looks this way - I've never seen gardeners take such care of lawns and plants!

The swimming pool was just right - plenty of sun beds - and a brilliant swim-up bar. You're not hassled by an animation team or anything. There are activities you can join in with, but these are not pushed on you, and really the only thing you'll notice is the daily aqua-gym. The boys also played darts and volleyball, and had a go at scuba diving, whilst the wife enjoyed a Balinese cooking lesson. It is a very relaxing place. We went for relaxation and whilst our eldest loved it - he's quiet outgoing - our youngest would have probably preferred a bit more entertainment/activities. It's not really that sort of hotel though, so more on us than them! There are pool tables and dart boards, along with giant chess sets, but the evenings tend to be spent chilling out at the bars. There were some wonderful musical acts performing throughout our stay and on one night a week there is a traditional Balinese night with authentic dancing and music - well worth watching.

There's also a rooftop bar - not part of the all-inclusive offer - and this was amazing at sunset. On the Friday there was a DJ who played a chilled-out dance set from 16:30. This would have been awesome more often in our opinion.

There are lots of restaurants and a good choice of food. Quite a mix, including Balinese dishes. Breakfast was again a lovely mix - continental, English, etc. There's also an a-la-carte restaurant that is open, and part of the all inclusive package, when the main restaurants are closed, and again there's a huge range you can order. The boys thought nothing of going having a burger or pasta at 11:00pm.

In terms of drinks, again there is a huge selection to choose from, including all-inclusive cocktails and special ones to buy. Local bottled beers - Bintang and Singaraja are also part of all-inclusive.

We booked some excursions through the hotel - quad bike tour and an ethical elephant experience (but I'll review those separately). These were not cheap but 100% worth the cost. On the beach, there is another excursion company and we booked jet-skiing and snorkelling expeditions through them, along with surfing lessons for the lads. These were really reasonably priced. I cannot remember the name of the company but they operate from the beautiful beach at the hotel and you cannot miss them. The guys there are great.

If you carry on walking along the beach there are some local bars and also a fabulous market that sells EVERYTHING. Opposite the hotel there is a really cool men's clothes shop, a supermarket and a restaurant.

I want to give special thank you to the staff who made our stay so memorable. Along with the gentleman I mentioned earlier, I have to tell you that we really miss the amazing Dika, Yoga, Reza, Octavia, Wiesti, Putu, Rici and Rudy. Thank you all so very very much for looking after my family and making us all feel so welcome. We do miss you all and wish you all the best until we see you again!

The ONLY grumble about the entire holiday was the problem at the airport in Delhi (see my review of Air India!).

Go ahead and book your stay at this tropical paradise - you will not regret it!
