Excellence Riviera Cancun

Hugo Vera was the absolute best with attending my family with our accommodations for dinner. Being that I am vegetarian, he made sure to prepare me a personalized vegetarian dish with my favorite veggies! I couldn’t be more happier with the dish he brought out! The most amazing plant based steak with butternut squash puree and vegies with a spicy sauce on the side. I was absolutely impressed and did not expect it at all. Flavor was out of this world and the service in general at mexican/oregano restaurant was impeccable. Our server was Guillermo who also made sure to bring out anything we wanted and recommended the most amazing dishes! Over 10/10 experience.

Overall had a great time. Resort is very nice, comfortable, and easy from airport.
Please be careful as tile gets very slippery when wet-recommend water shoes. Restaurants were inconsistent, one night so-so another night outstanding. Staff were all amazing, very friendly and helpful

Hubby and I just returned from another wonderful vacation at ERC! Even though we were there just a year ago, there were lots of new, friendly faces. That said, I'm happy to report that there were some wonderful, familiar ones as well. ❤️

Construction - During our stay, there was a TON of remodeling/construction going on. Frankly, I'm glad to see Excellence continuing to reinvest in this property. Even though half of the restaurants and the cafe were under construction, we never felt like we missed out because they simply moved the restaurants and cafe to different locations. Plus, everything was well hidden behind temporary walls so as not to take away from the aesthetics of the resort.

Food - for the most part, food was still quite good throughout. In fact, we were very pleased with the addition of the new Korean BBQ at Spice. However, our hibachi experience was quite lackluster and disappointing. We got the sense that perhaps they were running behind. Instead of the usual lively show, we watched our chef rush cook our meal and quickly leave. 😕

Breakfast at the Kitchen is always wonderful with plenty of options. Lunch, however, leaves a bit to be desired. There just wasn't much variety, and the a la carte items were often over or under seasoned, so we would go to the Lobster House as often as possible, but that gets repetitive too. We were disappointed to learn that they don't serve lunch at the Sports Bar, only dinners. They do have pastries and gourmet coffee, but that's not what most people want while watching sports.

Dinners and the service at Chez Isabelle (Marco and Fatima), Magna, Spice (Elizabeth and Concepcion) and Basmati were fantastic, as always. We couldn't get into The Grill both times we tried, so we never went. The biggest disappointment, however, was Oregano and Lobster House. The pizza at Oregano was EXACTLY the same as the ones you get at the pool bar, and the lobster was completely tasteless. I'm sorry to say both restaurants could really use some work.

One thing I would like to see is a hand sanitizing station at every restaurant (esp at The Kitchen buffet) as restrooms aren't always easily accessible.

Service - overall, the service was top notch throughout the resort, esp in the Club areas and the restaurants. At the Club pool, Joel was always kind and courteous, as were all the super attentive servers. That said, I think only a couple of servers stopped by when we were on the regular side or at the beach, but it wasn't a big deal. The bartenders were always chipper and ready to make a tasty beverage.

Activities - As always, the activities staff worked tirelessly to keep everyone entertained. As I mentioned to a newcomer, if you get bored, it's your own fault because there was PLENTY to do all day and night. I loved seeing Diana's sweet face again, along with the new .. Santiago, Oswaldo, Alan, Soji (I forget the correct spelling) and Kaleb. They are constantly looking for ways to make it fun and engaging for the customers.

For those looking for first rate evening entertainment, do NOT miss Claudia or The Legends. AMAZING!!

Housekeeping - during the day, housekeeping was wonderful! Our room was always spotless with ample fresh towels and linens. Evening turndown, however, only happened twice in 10 nights, which is surprising as they never missed during my 4 prior stays at ERC. Not a big deal, but it was noticed.

Gym - As a personal trainer, I've always said the gym at ERC is, hands down, the best of all the resorts and cruises I've experienced all over the world! The variety of equipment, alone, is admirable. Plus, they now have 2 .. one for primarily strength training and the other for functional training. LOVE IT. And, Alfredo is always friendly and constantly cleaning or tidying things up. Nothing is ever out of place or filthy like most public gyms. It's clear he takes tremendous pride in making both gyms accessible and inviting.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our 10-night vacation at ERC and plan to return next year. Thanks to all the lovely staff who always make our experience fun and memorable.
