Dreams Jade Resort and Spa

We upgraded to an Ocean View room, but it was far from what we expected. It was mostly a tropical view with only a small glimpse of the ocean, so calling it an Ocean View felt misleading.

We planned this trip to celebrate our daughter's 4th birthday, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the moment we checked in. The lunch buffet and room service food were of very poor quality, and the buffet had very limited options. Most days, we ended up eating only one proper meal because the breakfast and lunch buffets were so disappointing.

We spoke with the concierge team, and Gabriela was the only person who truly understood our concerns. She went above and beyond by upgrading us to a much better room, which made our stay more comfortable. Without her help, we would have seriously considered leaving the resort. She deserves recognition for her outstanding customer service.

The only restaurants we genuinely enjoyed were Tamarindo and Spice. The food there was excellent, and the staff at both restaurants were exceptional—friendly, attentive, and professional. They were the highlight of our stay.

We have stayed at many Hyatt properties over the years, and this resort did not meet the Hyatt standards we have come to expect. It was one of our most disappointing resort experiences. Even if we were offered a complimentary stay in the future, we would decline.

Our sincere thanks again to Gabriela for doing everything she could to improve our stay. She was the one bright spot in an otherwise very disappointing vacation.

Dreams Jade Review

We just completed a week at Dreams Jade and wanted to give others an honest review.

We became members here 2.5 years ago and this was my first trip back with girlfriends and our teen girls. We reserved three rooms with an already already great rate as we booked 6 months out.

The preferred Club Ocean View Suites -Wow! The shower head was amazing and the view!

I was nervous for my friends to be happy with the resort as I planned it, being a member - but they loved it! The preferred adult pool was amazing again, a true oasis with Melvin and Angel working hard all day! Melvin checked preferred room numbers two of the days although others there complained they rarely check. I joined the teens at the family pool a lot and was often asked if I needed drinks and at the pool bar, servers were polite to the teens. Try the Mango Lilly there! The red flag was on the beach so most water sports did not happen although we were offered a ride on the catamaran.

We did massages at the spa after having Andres give us a sample massage in the courtyard and he was one of the best clinicians I’ve had. The hydrotherapy was included with massage and lovely too - be sure to go that hour early! The gym facilities were great as well.

The food did not wow anybody but there was enough on the menu for everyone and service was always impeccable. I think the evening buffet needs fruit and pizza as options, instead of just lunch. Castaways and the pool grill had lots of options. We reserved the Teppanyaki show and enjoyed it. We also ate at Spice and felt the food was just okay as a whole. David at the buffet crepe station every breakfast was exceptionally friendly and hardworking and Jose’s service stood out! I’d go to Cin Cin just for the Oreo Cheesecake, and Coco Cafe for truffles and ice cream! One exceptional (grey-haired) server at Mercure brought my daughter Oreo cheesecake when she didn’t like the desserts on the menu after asking what DO you like? Impressed. I feel like the fillet steak at Mercure could improve - significant decline from two years ago, but French Onion soup made up for that.

One of the managers, Paulina, stopped by at dinner almost every night to ask how our stay was going and even made menu recommendations. I haven’t had managers visit us nightly before at any Secrets or Dreams resort and she was so genuine she really stood out. We felt valued because of her check-ins. I wondered if we were special (haha!) or every guest had her asking about their stay.

We struggled a bit with not having our room cleaned everyday before 4pm when we returned so had to call for water and towels. I didn’t mind, but on day 3 the preferred club said they would schedule it for 11am each day but that did not happen. Maintenance fixed our door in 30 minutes when the lock died and three sets of new cards wouldn’t open it and we had to tell the desk it’s dead - no green or red light.

For teens 14-18 the highlights were daily pool volleyball with Saul (thank you!), ordering room service, endless virgin superman, pina colada, and mojito drinks, and foosball and pool in the sports bar. We caught the circus show, rock show, some karaoke and they were fun and performers talented!

The sargassum on the beach is expected in July and there, but I tried and didn’t really smell it. Minor complaints were the preferred pool chairs were removed at one end for a private event so we were told we needed to vacate them at 2pm then the area sat empty for 3 hours before the wedding Friday and while we were told the music would be done at 10pm, it went to 11pm so no sleep in those buildings before then. They closed Capers two nights in a row which we were excited for as it’s our favourite. One restaurant closed each night. There was a schedule in preferred bar we wish we’d been made aware of as the app is not up to date/correct for which one is closed each night - that needs fixed for sure.

Overall for value for money, this resort is a 9/10 and all 6 of us had an incredible time and can’t wait to do it again! Although I travel often, my friends don’t and we were all thoroughly impressed and nobody wanted to leave. It’s a great summer destination for the price. Last trip I visited was over New Years and that was quite an event /party with lots of entertainment.

I hope this helps anyone deciding if they’ll like this resort - you’d have to be pretty picky to not have a fantastic time here.
