Rating: 4 / 5 Stars
I stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Mexico from October 3rd to October 7th. Overall, I had an absolute blast, but a few maintenance and billing surprises kept this from being the perfect trip.
The Highlights:
Entertainment & Staff: The activities and entertainment were by far the best part of the resort! The staff members were super nice, attentive, and made the stay truly enjoyable.
Transfers: Having free airport transfer service included to and from the hotel was an awesome perk that made logistics seamless.
The Room: Aside from the maintenance hiccups, the room itself was very nice and comfortable.
Things to Keep in Mind / Issues Faced:
Room Maintenance Issues: On October 6th, we lost power completely for over two hours. That same morning, our toilet stopped working, and when we returned later in the day to shower, the shower drain was clogged.
Hidden Fees & Payment Confusion: Be aware upon check-in that they will try to make you pay in both Pesos and USD currency. Additionally, you have to pay local resort/environmental taxes on top of what your room rate already covers—something that was never mentioned during the booking process.
Food & Dining: The food overall was just okay. The Steakhouse in particular was average and definitely could have been better.
Final Verdict: This trip easily would have been a 10 out of 10 if not for the plumbing, power outage, and unexpected check-in fees. Despite those setbacks, the high energy, incredible staff, and great activities made it worth it. I would still return to this resort!
We had an incredible stay at Hotel Palace Mexico! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how stunning the property is. The renovations look absolutely amazing, and the resort is beautiful! But as gorgeous as the hotel is, what truly makes this place special is the incredible staff and outstanding service!
The food was delicious, and our favourite was definitely the Italian restaurant! ( we went twice and regret not going more!) We thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience, fantastic food but, it was the people who went above and beyond that made our vacation so memorable.
A special shout-out to Ermilo (I hope I’ve spelled his name correctly!) at the pool bar for the fantastic service! Always a pleasure seeing you everyday!
And we absolutely MUST mention Javi , Pastor and Diana, our pool servers! What wonderful people! They were so kind, friendly, attentive, and always happy to help. Honestly, we travel a lot, and these 3 are among the best we have ever encountered! They made us feel so welcomed and looked after, and their genuine warmth did not go unnoticed. People like Javi, Pastor and Diana are a huge part of what makes a vacation truly special!
We also want to recognize Abraham, who was always ready, willing, and happy to take care of us at both the breakfast buffet and lunch. His friendly attitude and excellent service were very much appreciated!
While we may not have caught everyone's name, please know that the entire team deserves recognition. The friendliness, professionalism, and genuine care shown by the staff made such a lasting impression on us.
We travel often, and we can honestly say that the people at this resort helped make this trip one to remember. A beautiful hotel is wonderful, delicious food is a bonus, but exceptional people and outstanding service are what bring guests back!
Thank you to the entire team at Hotel Palace Mexico for making our stay so special. We left with wonderful memories, big smiles, and so much appreciation for all of you.
We will DEFINITELY be returning!
If you're considering this resort, go and experience the hospitality for yourself. You won't just remember the beautiful property — you'll remember the people who made you feel so welcome!
This was our second visit to the Riu Palace Mexico (RPM) we travelled with TUI from UK. The hotel has been updated and is now adults only the building the rooms and the public areas are really well maintained and of excellent quality. The buffet area has been changed and although the choice of food in the evening was goos it had lost a bit of the sparkle of the old serving area, very bland and corporate. Breakfast however was excellent and a good start to the day. The buffet lunch is at best ....dissappointing we went to the RIU Palace RM of the RIU Yucatan, the lunch there was much better. The staff were once again magic really hard working and the kept thye hotel clean and were always attenntive to our needs. We never had a problem in the pool area there are plenty of sun beds and the staff provide and excellent service for drinks. One thing that caused me to think, was the imposition of the "Elite Club" it seemed to me that those of us with the purple wrist band recieved an inferior service and choice of drinks. I fully understand charging more for certain rooms, but to add an excliuve resturant and 5 x more bottles of spirits to the "Elite Plan" seems a bit money grabbing to me. To me is should be the same service to all and if RIU need the money then charge everyone a little extra, no probs. As a Coeliac I recieved really good food choices, just ask. Our newly designed room as for two people yet there was only one suitcase stand.
Anyway we had a really nice week on the RPM and we look forward to our next visit. Thank you staff and thank you RIU.
I am not sure who to thanks for the really good thunderstorm but a good bolt of lightening really brightens up your gin and tonic. Thanks whoever.
TopTip Eat lunch elsewhere, you have access to the RIU hotels around get off the sun bed and try them all.
Hotel just reopened, but rooms still under renovation. The smell is awful and plus very strong smell from treating cockroaches in every room. Dead cockroaches are everywhere. My husband has asthma which is worsening after this. Stuff didn’t have room without smell.
Don’t listen to negative reviews! We have travelled alot and could not find fault with this hotel. The food and drink selections were really good. There was something for everyone.
We were due to stay at the yukatan but due to building work decided to upgrade, so glad we did.
The staff are so friendly, smiling and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.
We didn’t have any bug issues at all. Staff work really hard to keep everywhere clean and tidy.
The option to have a wander along the beach and experience the other Riu hotels is great, nice to have a change of scenery.
