Please note that this review reflects the week I was there.
If you are expecting a 5 star resort you will be disappointed. This is a 3 or 4 star at best.
Location: close to airport and in a gated area with sister resorts. Felt completely safe.
Grounds: beautiful and well cared for. Walk ways could use a bit of attention. The mosquitoes where crazy! ( more later) we did notice them spraying on our last day ( they did say they did it daily. We just didn't see it)
Arrival: no line up. Our room wasn't ready so we had to wait almost 2 hrs. Staff wasn't very pleasant and we felt we were intruding on their time. They diffuse something in the lobby area so beware if you have asthma ( it smelled great though)
Rooms: when we booked we requested double beds ( 3 sisters, they do offer triple occ). Although the rooms are large there isn't enough space for 3 women on holiday! The washroom set up was odd but the room was extremely clean. Although we booked triple and asked for double beds the room was set up for 2 ppl. They did quickly bring us extra towels , robe and slippers. We were in a swim out room ( beautiful) but we were not able to sit on the patio because the mosquitoes were so bad ( we were on the end unit which could be why)
Pools; all of the pools were very clean and warm! The quiet pool is next to a block of rooms under construction....not so quiet but that will change
Food; the food was ok. Nothing special. Only 2 restaurants open at a time. We ate at the same one 3 times... Service at restaurants was sub par. At the Hitachi restaurant the food was ok but the service was the horrible. It took forever to be offered a drink ( after the first glass of wine) and desert didn't arrive until about 40 minutes after the meal.... Buffet is large with lots of choices. It is the only choice for breakfast. It is also where you get snacks. Once again the staff was lacking. You wait to be sested, which is fine. We spotted friends and asked to sit next to them ( just at a table near them which was empty) and was met with eye rolls and were told if we wanted to eat as a group we needed to inform them.....overall the buffer experience was not welcome nor inviting. Karen was extremely rude and when I asked her why ( we were not) she had the waiter completely ignore us ( I watched her point me out to him) The snack bar on the beach was fantastic! Great food and great service. The guy cooking ( I think they call him onion) was fantastic! So pleasant and sweet. We also ate at the sister resort. Food was great. It was had to get reservations or we would have done it every night.
Staff: as I mentioned earlier I didn't find the staff overly friendly. The lobby staff and concierge were horrid. Bar staff were great and so were the bell hops ( they always greeted with the biggest smiles.) Entertainment crew were all very friendly ( especially Johny) and lots of fun.
Entertainment was lacking. For an adult resort I was expecting more. The foam party and games were great fun ( Saturday) but the rest was on the boring side. Night time Entertainment was repetitive. Same dancers each night ( they were very good) but different costumes so by the end of the week it was boring.
Beach: if you are a beach person ( I am not) you should consider going elsewhere. The " seaweed" was crazy!!! Extremely smelly ( it was the season) staff were doing all they could to keep it clean. But even without the seaweed the beach isn't much.... great bar and food though
Check out: as we were leaving late in the day we asked if it was possible to get late check out. The lady said sure if the room was available. We were happy to hear it was...until she said it was $49.00 USD/ hr. I have never had a resort charge that amout! We declined the service. The man at the desk was very pleasant when we did check out.
There isn't much going on at night. Shows start at 10pm and " disco" at 11. They did karaoke 1 night and it was by far the best night ( didn't start until 11)
This resort, although very clean is beginning to show its age. There are not real comfortable places to sit. Even in the bar you are on bar chairs ( challenging for short ppl and older ppl)
In closing I would say if you are expecting 5 star you might be disappointed. Go without expecting that ( you pay 5 star prices) and you can enjoy it. I am not picky or fussy. I would have given a completely different review if it was a 3 star.
Exceptional team and excellent food
I spent a week at the Platinum Yucatan Princess and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is especially friendly, attentive and helpful, and most employees speak very good English, which makes everything easy.
I would like to give a special mention to Fernanda, the manager, Karen, the hostess, and the waiters Bryan and Armando. Their warm and professional service made every meal enjoyable. A special thank you to Bryan, who made a real effort to speak French with us and showed a sincere interest in it.
The food is varied and delicious, with plenty of choice for every taste. I highly recommend this resort and hope to come back one day.
Wonderful trip to Mexico. I liked this resort.
Tl;dr: Would rate as 4 star. Beach is disappointing, but resort is otherwise good!
The room was comfortable and spacious, and everything was working properly. No complaints other than how far it was away from the main part of the resort. It was a hike to everything except the main pool. The main pool bar closed at 6pm, and then there are no food or drink options in that part of the resort.
The resort was very clean (seriously, you could see the staff working hard to keep it that way all day every day), and there is wildlife to see in every green space.
The beach is not a selling point - it’s tiny, barely any seating, and the mosquitos and sargassum were bad during my stay. The beach bar was almost always closed. Disappointing for sure. The pools were great - clean, comfortable temperature, etc. The main pool could get pretty loud and crazy but the others were fun and chill.
The food was pretty good - I enjoyed my meals at the restaurants and could always find something to enjoy at the buffet. Excellent table service at the buffet from Brian and Geremeel.
For a five star resort, I did expect more in terms of food quality and selection. The only option for breakfast and lunch was the Buffet, and there wasn't any poolside food at all. There were supposed to be snacks somewhere but I never found them! Of the four à la carte restaurants, only two were open each night. We elected to go to the sister resorts some nights for variety (highly recommend La Volta).
The bars were really good. Brands were recognizable, and pours were generous. Amazing drinks from David (main pool) and Marco (platinum pool).
There is a new coffee and ice cream bar but it’s only open from 4-8pm. I tend to want my coffee in the morning, and one evening we wanted ice cream after dinner but it was closed! I heard a new sports bar is opening soon, but it wasn’t open when I was there.
Overall I enjoyed my stay. I was happy with the food, the drinks, and the pools. I’d rate it more like a 4 star than a 5 star
This was my 3rd and by no means my last trip to this wonderful resort. I'm going to break this review down into areas: Resort, Room, Food, and Staff. My apologies in advance as it may get a little long. Firstly, the Resort itself. Located about an hour from the Cancun airport, and about a 10 minute drive from from the main highway, it's got a quiet and calm vibe. Now, don't let that fool you, it's lots of fun and they have all sorts of games and events for you to participate in IF that's your vibe, it's not really mine or my friends. We're calm chill people so we didn't really take part. But they looked enjoyable, and everyone who did take part seemed like they were enjoying themselves and having fun. The resort property itself, a beautiful property and while a bit dated in some areas, it was clear they were in the process of renovations on certain parts. So I would imagine take any dated looking areas with a grain of salt as they may change in the coming months. There was also the addition of a joint ice cream/coffee bar since the last time I was there which was nice. Secondly, the room. We had booked a "Deluxe Junior Swimout Suite" and it was lovely. The furniture was all in good condition, the beds comfy, the linens clean, there were no weird smells, overall a nice space. The sound proofing was really good, our room was RIGHT off the main pool deck and the only time there was any real sound carry through was during the foam party. Even then it was only because the music was incredibly loud with heavy bass. Our swimup deck was lovely and gave us enough shade to rest on our loungers comfortably during parts of the day when we didn't want to be IN the water. Over all, very pleased with it. Thirdly, the food. I have a gluten and dairy intolerance, eating out is always difficult and sometimes dangerous. One wrong thing and I'm in a lot of pain for several days. This resort provides a letter you can give to the a la cartes so they know what your allergies are so they can help you in choosing something that will be safe for you to eat. The Italian restaurant even made me gluten free bread and pasta. The buffet had so many options and I was always able to find a enough for a full plate of delicious food. The room service was good, but the menu was very limited. There wasn't a single breakfast menu item I could have, but there were things in the lunch/dinner menu so it wasn't as much of a problem. And overall the food was pretty good. Fourth and lastly, the Staff. Which in my opinion are the main reason I keep coming back. Everyone there does their best to make sure you feel safe, and are enjoying yourself. I would like to name a few of the standouts from this last trip who really made this the wonderfully relaxing and fun trip my friend and I both had needed. At Checkin, Elizabeth at the front desk. Friendly and efficient (you will probably hear that combinations many times as so many of the staff are) did her best to help get us into a room with 2 beds instead of one as neither my friend or I like to share a bed. Cinthia at the concierge desk, helped me with my letter for my allergies. Efficient and took care of it quickly for me. So many of the servers from the buffet and the a la cartes went out of their way to help and take care of us: Armando (at the buffet), Miguel (at Bruschetta), Gerameei (at the buffet), Benedicto "Benny" (at Aroma), Miguel(at Rodeo Grill), Eliana (at Bruschetta), Bryan (at the buffet), and Rosemberg (at the Buffet). As well, there were a few standouts that really made an impact on our trip and my friend and I felt really went above and beyond. Karen, the buffet hostess, always a smile on her face, so friendly and outgoing. Seeing her smiling face was a highlight of our meals at the buffet. Deysi, one of the poolside servers. Bubbly, friendly, and amazing at her job. Knew my friend and I's drink orders after only a few rounds, and REMEMBERED them everyday. Pedro, the host at Bruschetta and Rodeo Grill. We went to these 2 about 5 days apart and he remembered my allergies which made an impact, and was so appreciated, as he no doubt sees dozens of faces a day. Lastly, but certainly NOT least. Javier, one of the bellmen. I don't have words for Javier, he was sweet, friendly, efficient, and overall in my opinion one of the highlights of this trip. He was incredibly welcoming, and made every interaction fun and enjoyable. For him alone I would come back to this resort. Overall, this was yet another wonderful experience for me and now for my friend at the Yucatan Princess, and I will definitely be coming back again.
If you are booking the Platinum Yucatán Princess All Suites & Spa Resort expecting a true 5-star luxury experience, you will likely be disappointed. However, if you treat this as a budget-friendly 3-star adults-only all-inclusive resort where you just want to float, drink, and socialize, you can still have a great time—provided your expectations are set correctly. We stayed for two weeks, which was definitely too long for what this property currently offers.
Food & Beverages: The food overall was just okay. Each restaurant had a standout dish or two, but we never had a good steak during our stay. You do get access to the restaurants at the neighboring family resorts, though reservations are required and you’ll be around families with children. Our favorite dinner of the trip was at Dua Wok over at the Hotel Grand Riviera Princess.
Breakfast Tip: If it's too warm for hot coffee at the breakfast buffet, ask for an iced latte—we discovered this on our second day and it became our go-to caffeine fix.
Drinks: Drinks at every bar were consistently very good and colorful. Mojitos at dinner were our favorite!
Ice Cream & Dress Codes: There is a nice ice cream shop, but it was only open from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, so we often missed it. Restaurant dress codes exist but were loosely enforced.
Rooms, Wi-Fi & Maintenance: The room was okay, but felt like it was in its prime 10 years ago and is now in need of updating.
We could never get the AC cool enough to sleep comfortably.
Wi-Fi was a constant headache—packet loss was high, connections dropped frequently, and pages failed to load.
Our TV backlight was dying with visible dead spots/LEDs. It took two days for someone to inspect it, only to dismissively tell us it was fine and blame the Chromecast we plugged in.
Bathroom Tip: Bring your own shampoo and body wash. The provided toiletries don't work well at washing off pool chemicals and sunscreen.
Staff & Service: ALL of the staff members were friendly and pleasant despite operational drawbacks. Every request goes through the concierge, but we had only about a 50% success rate when calling for basic items like extra towels. Ordering room service via the app was slightly more reliable when the app was actually working.
Grounds & Wildlife: The grounds are the best-maintained part of the resort and are genuinely beautiful. The local wildlife was a major highlight, though they should be treated as wild animals. Just keep an eye out for animal droppings along the pathways, as cleanup could be quicker.
Pool Vibe & Atmosphere: The main pool is vibrant, social, and lively—this is where we made our vacation friends! The pool bartenders were awesome, and there were plenty of fun activities to join or watch.
Pool Tips: Bring floaties—it’s a great pool for floating and chilling!
Loungers & Shade: Get to the pool before noon if you want a sun lounger. As a fair-skinned American, I really wished there were more shaded spots in and around the pool area.
Food Need: There is no daytime snack bar by the pool. Adding poolside food options would go a long way in helping guests avoid drinking on an empty stomach.
Final Thoughts: This resort needs a major overhaul to modernize its rooms, food offerings, and Wi-Fi infrastructure. After dining over at the neighboring Hotel Grand Riviera Princess, it was clear management is investing more maintenance money into the family resort than the adults-only side. We will not stay here again as we prefer to pay more for true 5-star service, but if you're on a budget, aren't a foodie, and just want to float and drink in the sun, you will enjoy yourself here.
