Everything was so lovely, but the staff even more so. I started to have concerns when I read complaints about the sargassum (inescapable in the summer), the beach, and other dumb stuff. The location is great, getting around is quick and easy.
While the hotels beach is small and rocky, there’s soft sand, a beach bar with swings, cabanas, and they keep it as clear of sargassum as possible. You cannot smell it from the beach.
The main pool is huge and there were plenty of chairs for everyone. Service on the pool deck and even in the pool is excellent. You don’t feel like you need a swim up bar, but there is one at the smaller pool. As such, the smaller pool can get more full. The smaller pool has a sushi bar while the main pool has a pizzeria.
The bartenders get to know you quickly and are quick to keep you refilled, the entertainment staff is so fun, and we had so much fun at the silent disco.
The bed and the pillows were good. I don’t understand the complaints about it. We have the softest bed at home and were fine. I’ve had back surgery and didn’t wake up in pain. They’re fine. We had an ocean view room and you could smell the seaweed on the balcony but it was not as bad as people make it out to be.
The food caters to the American palate and is somewhat boring. The restaurants repeat menus, but the food is tasty enough. If you’re not a foodie you won’t mind. It was fresh and made in-house.
The best part were the resort raccoons who love to party at night. They’re so cute but they keep their distance.
I would definitely recommend this for adults who want a laidback kid-free vacation. Going other places with screaming kids was a bit much at times.
Amazing experience. Top notch service. Beautiful resort. However super crowded which was nice.
Very nice place, quite and relaxing. Everyone was soooo nice. Food was delicious 😋
This hotel has a great location walking distance from everything. We upgraded room at it was well worth it. Our room was cleaned everyday.
We stayed at the Wyndham Alltra Playa Del Carmen for a little over a week and had a wonderful time! The staff were friendly, hard-working, and accommodating. I would recommend this resort to anyone as long has they have realistic expectations based on reviews like this one. I'll first address the beach/seaweed situation. There is only a small section of the beach at the end of the property that's useable because of erosion and the seaweed that accumulates. This small section has chairs and a beach bar, but is separate from the activities in the pool areas. If you are looking for a place to spend a lot of time on the beach, this is probably not a match for you. However, if you enjoy hanging by the pool, and occasionally going to this beach area for a little peace and relaxation, this place will work for you like it did for us. Yes, there is a lot of seaweed, and they do their best everyday to remove it with a big crew of workers. Yes it smells, but honestly, I only noticed it first thing in the morning when I came down and before the crew had completed their work. Otherwise, it wasn't an issue for me or my group. The entertainment staff were fantastic, and I will give a special shout out to them! David was very friendly and inviting and was constantly inventing fun ways to keep us engaged and occupied. Janika was fun and energetic, and Carlos had a great deadpan sense of humor. They included us in pool games, salsa making, drink making, music trivia, etc., and we really enjoyed their company and the other guests we met. The three of them are truly assets for your organization! The facility itself was stylish and well laid out. We had standard rooms that were awfully dark but sufficient for the value we got. The restaurants were good, but not all were open every night. With only three in the rotation for dinner (Italian, Mexican, Grill) there was limited variety, but they were all delicious! The sushi bar is a well-kept secret for lunch, located at the "quiet" pool on the street side of the property. This was a great break from the busy pool area if you're in the mood. Thanks to Sebastian, the bartender who had a new drink recipe for every occasion and always had a friendly smile! Finally, I must also give a special shout out to Jaime, who bartended and served drinks poolside. He hustled nonstop and anticipated our individual favorites, always keeping us well hydrated and happy! Thank you Jaime! The proximity to town is nice to go shopping or exploring for those who enjoy such an option. Overall, you will love this resort as long as the beach limitations aren't a deal breaker for you! The staff and service quality are exceptional!
