Beautiful Resort, but Not the Experience We Expected
This is a great hotel and resort, but it does not feel like a traditional Mexican resort. It could easily be located almost anywhere in the world.
The beach is actually a shallow bay, with zero ocean sound and water that was generally no more than about three feet deep. It is also a very public beach that is frequently used by local residents, so the resort beach does not feel like a true adults-only environment.
Most of the bartenders were also very conservative with their pours.
On the positive side, the rooms were very clean, well maintained, and in excellent condition.

Request for Management Review– Unsatisfactory Stay at Breathless Hyatt Cancun
Dear Hyatt Guest Relations, I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with my recent stay at Breathless Hyatt Cancun. Unfortunately, my experience fell far below the luxury standards I have come to expect from the Hyatt brand. Throughout my stay, I repeatedly attempted to order room service, calling for 30 minutes or more each day without ever receiving an answer. I also tried contacting the front desk on multiple occasions, waiting over 40 minutes on hold for assistance with no response. On two separate days, I ultimately had to leave my room and go to the front desk in person just to request basic assistance. This level of customer service is unacceptable for a luxury resort. The food quality was equally disappointing. Breakfast offered very limited options, and many of the basic items were either unavailable or poorly prepared. The turkey sausage resembled pork, had little to no flavor, and the bacon was not even available on the buffet—I had to request it from the omelet station. Additionally, the French toast and pancakes were served cold or at room temperature every morning. The dining experience throughout the resort was consistently subpar. The steak I was served appeared unusually pale, making me question the quality of the meat. At Fish Nets, my salmon was undercooked. Overall, the food quality did not reflect the standards expected from a Hyatt luxury property. The beverage service was equally disappointing. The alcoholic beverages were made with inexpensive liquor, and despite staying with Exhale Club privileges, I was unable to find premium or top-shelf liquor at any of the bars. The juices were noticeably watered down, resulting in cocktails that lacked flavor and quality. I paid a premium price expecting a luxury resort experience, yet I received poor customer service, low-quality food, and disappointing beverage offerings. This was one of the most unsatisfactory resort experiences I have had, and I travel extensively around the world. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter directly with a member of management. I am requesting appropriate compensation in the form of a refund or a hotel credit toward another Hyatt property that delivers the level of service and quality associated with the Hyatt brand. Just fine
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The rooms were very nice and although I did not like my first two room offers because proximity to noise, they moved me without question to a third and quieter room. Room cleaning service was excellent and the staff in general was very friendly and very helpful. The people themselves were great. I did not have the exhale package, But I did end up sliding into the pool once to check it out and it was very nice and quiet as promised. The other pools were good. The rooftop pool was definitely the best of the three options in terms of vibes and the biggest pool was rather boring not very much fun although pretty. The beach was fine and the water was warm, but it was filled with lots of locals. For me that was fine, but since it was an adult only experience, it was a little jarring to have lots of children running around the beach, calling for their parents. Not exactly the adult relaxed experience I expected on the beach. The food was very hit or miss. Two of the restaurants in particular were excellent. The French restaurant and the Italian restaurant were both amazing and the food was top-of-the-line. Excellent. The fish restaurant was mediocre at best and the Middle Eastern restaurant was closed the entire time I was there. The Mexican restaurant was also pretty average and I had some soup that I had to send back because it tasted like water. I never tried the Japanese restaurant, but I heard good things. The buffet at Spoons was the most disappointing and unfortunately, the only restaurant available for breakfast or lunch on any day. The food was the same every single day, boring and bland and very average. I would say the buffet was the worst experience of the trip in a lot of ways. In terms of nightlife, I would say there's very little. The club itself, after dark, was loud and small, and as a solo traveler, I found it to be very unfriendly. I tried best to socialize and dance, but as a 57-year-old man I just did not feel like I fit in at all. The evening shows were fine, there was an amazing fire show, which I really loved, and some of the singers were also good. But in general, I was underwhelmed with the evening programming. The drinks were fine, the bar service was good and again the hotel staff was very very friendly. Unfortunately, I got sick for my last two days and so I had to spend them in my hotel room, which wasn't too bad because it was a nice place. Having Bluetooth speakers throughout the room was a very nice touch. So, overall I would say I had a pretty good experience not the best, not the worst, but I'm not quite sure it was worth the money.

Overall
We recently stayed at Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa and had a fantastic vacation. Overall, we would definitely recommend it and would happily return. With a few improvements—particularly in entertainment, nightlife, and guest experience practices—it could easily reach a full 5-star experience.
Rooms
The resort is beautiful, modern, spotless, and very well maintained. Our room was simply WOW! It was spacious, had huge closets, and we were lucky enough to have an ocean-view room. Waking up to that view every morning was unforgettable. We also loved the LED lights in the room that change colors at night—they added a fun, modern touch.
The resort app is one of the best I’ve ever used. You can easily contact housekeeping or the concierge, check restaurant hours, browse the daily activity schedule, and find everything you need right from your phone. It made the entire stay feel seamless and convenient.
Food
The food was consistently very good. I liked that the buffet transforms into the Mexican restaurant at night instead of remaining a buffet—it made the dining experience feel more elevated. There are no reservations needed for the à la carte restaurants, which is a huge plus. If you arrive early, you’ll usually be seated immediately. If there’s a wait, you’re given a pager so you can relax with a drink at one of the bars instead of standing in line.
Silk, the rooftop Asian restaurant… WOW! The food was delicious, but the view was absolutely breathtaking. It was easily one of the highlights of our trip.
We also had the romantic rooftop dinner experience, and it was truly unforgettable. We were completely alone on the rooftop, which made it feel incredibly special and intimate. The waiter was amazing and the service was impeccable. The food was great and the view was stunning. That said, at $250 USD it felt quite expensive—especially for Canadians—but the $40 hotel coupon helped make it more worthwhile.
The coffee shop deserves a huge shout-out. It was incredible! They offered a wide variety of hot and frozen specialty coffees, and I especially looked forward to the daily featured drink. Fresh croissants every morning, pastries, desserts, fresh fruit, and delicious ice cream made it one of our favorite spots in the resort.
Location
The location is another big plus. Although the resort is in a quieter area, there’s a local bus stop right in front of the hotel. For just a few dollars, you can reach Cancun’s Hotel Zone entertainment in about 10 minutes, including places like Coco Bongo Cancún and Señor Frog’s Cancún. It made getting around incredibly easy without needing taxis.
One thing worth mentioning is that while the resort is adults-only, the beach itself is public, as is the case throughout most of Mexico. You may see families with children walking along or enjoying the beach. This wasn’t a problem for us, but it’s helpful to know if you’re expecting a fully adults-only beach experience.
Entertainment
Where the resort fell a bit short for us was the entertainment. We expected more of a vibrant, energetic atmosphere—especially considering the Breathless brand—but it never quite reached that level. The rooftop pool played hard hip-hop almost all day, every day, with very little variety. While I enjoy hip-hop, the music often felt too aggressive and explicit for what is otherwise a classy, upscale resort. A more balanced mix—such as lounge music, tropical house, chill electronic, or local Mexican music—would have created a more enjoyable and inclusive vibe.
The entertainment schedule also felt limited and repetitive. There were few organized activities, minimal poolside engagement, and most events repeated daily. The nighttime shows during the week were just okay, with noticeably better performances only on Friday and Saturday. Additionally, the shows take place by the pool and snack bar area, which closes at 4:00 p.m., making the setup feel less polished than expected.
Nightlife was another area that could use improvement. One evening, we met some great people and wanted to continue socializing, but by 10:00 p.m., all the bars were closed—even the lobby bar. We were told to return to our rooms and order room service, which didn’t feel like a great option in that situation. The disco was also closed that night. When it was open, it was small and charming, but the sound system lacked depth—no subwoofers and overly high-pitched audio—which took away from the experience.
The pool bar situation was also disappointing. The rooftop pool bar closed at 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, just when the atmosphere was still lively, and the lower pool bar remained closed throughout our entire stay. Longer hours and more consistent bar service would significantly enhance the overall experience.

- Barilla at the rooftop bar, and another bartender whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch (my homie—you know who you are!).
- The bartenders at the nighttime lobby bar were also excellent and always made us feel welcome.
Important Note
One thing we strongly recommend being cautious about is being invited to visit a “sister resort” or attend what is presented as a casual tour or presentation. These invitations are often tied to aggressive sales pitches for vacation memberships. While they may be framed as an opportunity to explore another property or receive perks, the reality is that they are primarily focused on selling high-cost, long-term commitments that may not be clearly explained upfront.
We felt this detracted from the otherwise relaxing experience, and it was surprising to see this happening at such a high-quality resort. Our advice is to politely decline these offers and enjoy your vacation without interruption.
Overall
Breathless Cancun Soul offers beautiful accommodations, excellent food, an outstanding coffee shop, wonderful staff, and a prime location. With more variety in entertainment, a better music selection at the rooftop pool, improved nightlife options, extended pool bar hours, and a more guest-focused approach to sales interactions, it could easily become a true 5-star destination. We had a wonderful vacation and would definitely consider returning.

We did not get what we paid for!
We booked our trip 8 months ago before they sold out - we upgraded to Exhale Club and did not receive the "Exhale" experience that everyone previously raved about! This was a girls trip - we made the best of it - food was MID - room service to get a bottle of water - terrible we had to walk downstairs each time they did not restock it daily as sold in the "exhale" package!
