The Fortress Resort and Spa

I had a wonderful stay at The Fortress Resort & Spa. My spacious room was extremely comfortable, but beware the humidity, keep the air conditioning running otherwise everything will get damp! I thought that the breakfast was superb were huge choice of western and Sri Lankan breakfast items, I recommend trying every different version of a Hopper, especially with some Seeni Sambol which I’m now addicted to! Although I did have Kiribath on the 1st September as tradition demands! Dinners were excellent, particularly at Itameshi Restaurant, where the Japanese cuisine was exceptional, I recommend the Wasabi Prawns and the Californian Roll. But their “standard” restaurant, the Terrace (?) was also of very high quality, I recommend the fish curry. There are beach restaurants nearby for more “rustic” and cheaper food, so you have plenty of choice. As is so often found in Asian hotels the staff provided outstanding service and nothing was too much trouble. I would like to give a special mention for Mr Samantha who stood out for his warm, attentive and thoughtful care, given to me throughout my stay. But ALL of the staff were brilliant and kind. The resort’s peaceful atmosphere, elegant design and stunning position overlooking the Indian Ocean created the perfect environment for relaxation, with the sound and beauty of the crashing waves adding to the experience. I highly recommend The Fortress for a memorable stay on Sri Lanka’s southern coast and I hope to return very soon.

We had a wonderful one night stay at this hotel. The room and bathroom were spotless and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming and always ready to help. The food was very delicious with a great selection of tasty dishes. The swimming pool was big, clean and enjoyable, and the hotel offers stunning sea view along with a beautiful spacious garden that creates a peaceful atmosphere. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we would definitely love to visit again. Highly recommended.
