Our stay at Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel was unfortunately disappointing due to several service issues, even though there were a few positives.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which we appreciated.
However, the food quality was below our expectations. We ordered rice, but it was not enjoyable. The Hot Butter Cuttlefish was especially disappointing—there were only about 5–6 small pieces of cuttlefish in the entire dish, spread around the plate to make it appear as though there was more. This is not the level of quality or honesty we expect from a hotel restaurant.
We booked two rooms for five adults, yet we were given only one complimentary bottle of water per room for the entire stay. Around midnight, we requested an additional bottle of water from the reception and were told we had to pay LKR 500 for a single bottle. We found this very disappointing, especially considering we were hotel guests.
The next morning, we planned to use the swimming pool, but the pool shower was not working. Since we couldn’t rinse off before entering the pool, we decided not to swim. We informed the management, but no one seemed concerned. We were simply told that the Engineering Department had been informed, with no apology or attempt to resolve the issue.
During check-out, we raised our concerns about the water issue with the receptionist. Unfortunately, she simply completed the check-out process without asking for details, apologizing, or informing the Front Office Manager or any senior staff member. It gave the impression that guest complaints are not taken seriously.
While the rooms were good, the overall customer service was poor and fell well below the standard expected from a hotel.
My advice to the management is to invest in proper customer service training for all staff members and ensure guest complaints are handled professionally and escalated when necessary. Good facilities alone are not enough if guests leave feeling ignored and dissatisfied.
Amazing Family vacation stay 😊
We stayed for 3 days with my family during our vacation and had a fantastic time.
Check-in was super smooth and all the reception staff were very professional and well-trained.
We stayed in a Premium Ocean-Facing Suite and the view was absolutely amazing. The room was always spotlessly clean. Special shoutout to Anushka from Housekeeping who took great care of us the entire stay. The towel art he made for my daughter made her day!
The hotel management was also very polite and kept checking on us. A big thank you to Ms. Jine, one of the Directors, for being so friendly and professional.
And to Mr. Edward and the team at the All Day Dining restaurant — you guys did an amazing job. The service we received from you is the main reason we’ve already decided to come back on our next vacation.
Highly recommend this hotel for families!

Loved our stay!
We loved our experience at the hotel. The staff was very kind, the rooms were very clean and the view was unmatched from our room! ✨ 10/10 would recommend!
