....And all that at the end of the season…
Rita, my spouse, and myself stayed at the Agaya Hotel (formerly “Privé) in Bodrum at the end of September/beginning of October (till the 10th).
The hotel ‘only’ has +/- 150 rooms of which a lot have full view of Bodrum Bay with the castle. Literally next to the hotel and their private beach with jetty you will find a ‘deniz taksi’ (boat taxi) which will take you over the bay to their mooring place next to the castle. Their service is from 09.00 hrs till midnight and given the fact that they operate 4 (small) boats. Waiting time is seldom more than a couple of minutes. The crossing takes about 5 minutes and costs 4 euros p/p. DO NOT HESITATE!
The ENTIRE staff were extremely friendly. Even at the end of the season! I will not start reciting names with the fear of forgetting one or two which would be a shame.
The food (buffet with limited ‘show cooking’) is great. Based on Turkish style though you can always find international specialties and the staff in the main restaurant was, yes…extremely friendly.
The entire space of the hotel, including the private beach and the swimming pool, is kept ‘spick and span’. Towels (several per day if you want) are readily available.
Last, but not least, the ‘ultra all in’ includes known brands of various spirits and soft drinks are provided in bottles or cans!
Had many years of going here and this stay was excellent as always. Treated very well in every aspect. Great staff and selection of food and drinks. Would like to have had some entertainment but the disco was good. Will be returning again.
Fantastic hotel. Good drinks, good food and lovely staff. We came here a few times before it changed its name. Very pleased to say they have kept up the high standard. All credit to the new owners to maintain so much. Only criticism was the mini bar was never topped up. But plenty of drinks available elsewhere so didn’t affect our holiday. This is 5* as it should be.
The location is good only half an hour walk to the Central Bodrum although there was a boat taxi avaliable for 200 Turkish Lira but we used once for the experience otherwise we wanted to walk as it's safe to walk around the city. The atmosphere is outstanding you can't find this view anywhere else it's really stunning. Rooms are clean and they upgraded our room to balcony the next day. Great value. A la carte restaurant was outstanding I booked it on my birthday and they surprised me with a cake and wishing me a happy birthday that was really nice of them:) Every staff were amazing, helpful and always there for you. Five star for each everyone. As it was adult only hotel the noise level was really calm relaxing during the whole stay. The only recomandation I have is night entertainment because after dinner we had nothing to do it makes kinda boring I wished we had something during nights too I know it's end of season and it's not busy but still it's not fair we can't get entertainment.
Booked a sea view room, and requested a quiet room on a high floor. Upon arrival, the room was not ready for 2 hours, but we could use the food & drink facilities. The room, on the 4th floor was ok, if a little dated, bathroom adequate, again a little tired, but both were clean & tidy. The sea view across the bay was fantastic, but the sunbeds on the balcony were dirty, covered in dust, as was the railings. These were not cleaned during our 2 week stay. The room and bathroom were cleaned daily, with towel changes & weekly bed linen change. The mini fridge was restocked daily, but water was missed a couple of times, but we could get from one of the bars. The only hotel information was on the key card holder in terms of bar/restaurant times. There was nothing on the room TV other than a hotel advert. There was only one English BBC news channel, and this did not have a signal for 10 days. The staff everywhere were helpful, friendly and worked very hard, which is a credit that should not be overlooked by the management. When we booked, entertainment was advertised until 30th September, however on arrival we discovered the entertainment finished on 20th September, 2 days before we arrived. As the location is a little isolated, other than 2 hotels next door, evenings were somewhat boring, unless you used the water taxi to go into Bodrum town. We had 2 major problems with this holiday, which is why we cannot give a higher rating. The first is noise. It either came from the adjoining hotels entertainment, or the party boats and discos across the bay. The adjoining hotels went on to sometimes around 1-00 am, but the party boats/discos until 3-00 or 4-00. One Saturday night it went on until 07-00 on the Sunday morning. Whilst this is outside of Agaya's control, a notification should be given to guests in advance, to manage expectations. Loss of sleep did not help us to enjoy our visit. Our biggest problem was the food. The variety and selection at all sittings was fine, given that the largest percentage of guests were either Turkish or Eastern European there was plenty to suit all tastes. However, one toaster at breakfast with a fixed low heat setting meant putting bread through 3 times and waiting in line. There was also waiting in line for any fresh cooked eggs. Our biggest gripe was the food temperatures of the food in the bins. It was either cold or just warm at best, with nowhere to heat it up. This was a shame, because the quality was fine, just badly stored. With either an executive chef or head chef patrolling the main restaurant at all sittings, we never once saw them checking the food temperatures in the bins, only quantities, to call for replenishments. The only way to get hot food was to watch the chefs doing the show cooking, and wait for them to replenish. The snack bar food was marginally better, but the chips were always cold. The beach area was always clean and tidy, but the sunbeds very dated and not very clean. The pool area was great with clean comfortable sunbeds and good umbrellas. The beach towel supply was superb, as you could change whenever you wished throughout the daytime. The beach/pool/snack and coffee bars were all very good, with great staff. Did have to watch out for some of the drinks, being local brands though. Overall, noise with loss of sleep and food temperature lets this hotel down, therefore we cannot give a higher rating.
