Ali Bey Resort

We had a wonderful holiday at Ali Bey Resort Sorgun. The territory is huge and well maintained. It is like a botanical garden with various plants and trees, you just want to go and take photos of everything! The room we got was spacious and clean. However, when we booked the holiday, we asked to be put in a certain block, but when we arrived, we got to know that we got a room at the very far of the hotel which we did not like at all since you have to walk a long distance to the pools, restaurant, beach, etc. if you don't wait for shuttle services, which fortunately can be asked by whatsapp but it would be much better if shuttle services had a fixed time when they were going somewhere. There is a wide selection of pools, however, if you come after breakfast, you won't find a free place. The same happens with the beach - if you want to get a sunbed on the first line, you have to wake up early to put your towel on, which we have never done at any other hotel but in this hotel it seemed like the only solution if you want a better spot... But overall the beach was clean, the beach umbrellas were great to sit in the shade, all in sand and not a single pebble which was truly wonderful. The food was delicious and various, although for an elite hotel we missed shrimps and seafood in general. A big compliment to the dessert chef as unlike in other hotels, the desserts looked different and they tasted different, whereas in other hotels we have visited they look different but they taste the same. The Amalfi Beach bar was our favorite spot, the guys working there are all amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful there. We didn't have a chance to enjoy evening entertainment to the fullest - it was impossible to breathe in the amphitheater because it was so humid and the wall was blocking the wind, which made it difficult to stay during the whole show. We saw people with portable ventilators trying to help themselves breathe as it was literally too humid and hot to stay in the amphitheater. All in all, we would definitely come back to the hotel but not during summer as it was so humid and hot we couldn't enjoy everything, so we would definitely be back in May or October. We arrived at Ali bey around 12.15am after a two hour delayed jet2 flight from Edinburgh. Unfortunately there was only one man on reception, with everything shut down as it was the night shift. Restaurant, literally everything. To our horror, we were informed that we had no reservation, and that the hotel was at full capacity. Also that there was no Jet 2 help available until 9am the next day. We were so stressed after a long day of delays and travelling. At this point, my family, hungry and tired, I was searching the area on my phone for any available alternative hotel for a night off the street. We were then informed by the man on reception, after us spending two hours of checking the area for alternative accommodation, that he had located a temporary room in the hotel, but that it would be 400 euros to reserve the booking on our credit card. Of course, although extremely upset and disappointed we paid him, just thankful my family were not on spending the night on the street. Unfortunately, although the temporary we had to pay extra for was clean, the room was smelling of dampness and we couldn’t sleep because of the smell, also the air conditioning wasn’t working (1107). Massively long story short, the next day, we managed to get our booking sorted between jet 2 and the hote manager, but by this time, the horrible check in experience we had been subjected too, had cast a dark shadow over our weeks holiday.

Other thing to really watch for is the hotel water sports centre on the beach try to rip you off at every opportunity. Pay them in Euros only as they try to con you with lira exchange rate. Basically £50.00 more for the parachute than the brochure price. Really bad. The prices on the brochure are in euros. So stick to that.

Conclusion…. My recommendations would be if you choose the Ali bey or decide to book through jet 2 holidays, is to contact both a couple of weeks prior to travel to confirm you are actually booked inn to the hotel (As it all appears to be a shambles) I emailed the hotel prior to arrival also to confirm, and for a quiet room, but it all still went pair shaped.
