3 star – Disappointing stay with real potential, far from 5-star standard

We stayed here for 12 nights in July 2026, ending up in 3 different rooms – and the whole experience felt like a constant struggle to get basic standards right.

Check-in & information

We were given a map on arrival, but no written details about towel collection or the fact we were entitled to a free massage – we only found out about these from our tour rep later. Our rep also told us we should have received a welcome pack at reception, which we never got, so we suspect that’s where this information should have been.

Rooms

First room: Immediately unacceptable – floors covered in hair and dust, and the toilet had clearly been poorly repaired. I have videos to back this up, this isn’t nitpicking! We asked to move to a properly cleaned room, which we did – but the staff member helping us took an unusually long time lingering, clearly waiting for a tip. For moving us into a room that should have been clean as standard? That’s the absolute bare minimum, not something that warrants a tip.

Second room: Even worse. No bedside table, generally dirty, shower glass covered in limescale, cracked tiles, and no kettle or tea/coffee facilities. Worst of all – I was bitten alive by bed bugs on our first night here, so we asked to move again. The TV didn’t work either: the aerial wasn’t even plugged in. An engineer came at 10:30pm, took the TV away and left an empty space. Next day he returned at 10am, said he’d be back in an hour, and finally turned up at 12:30 with a new TV that also didn’t work – then tried a flash drive which failed too. We wasted most of the day over this.

Third room: After speaking to our tour rep, we were moved again – and this one was finally lovely! Great view, spotlessly clean, really comfortable beds, and it had a kettle. The only tiny letdown was some shoddy tiling and grout in the bathroom, but that was nothing compared to the rest.

When I went to reception to ask for the manager as our rep suggested, staff said he was too busy – I waited until he came out. He did agree to move us to the exact block I’d asked for, which was perfect, but when I showed him my bed bug bites he claimed they were just an allergic reaction, or that I’d brought the bugs in my suitcase. I have clear footage of the pests in the bed, so this was frustrating. He called the nurse as the bites were severe and had bruised badly; she suggested going to hospital, which made me very anxious as I have a real fear of needles, especially in an unfamiliar country. There was also a language barrier that made the conversation tense, and my partner was equally worried about the idea. We declined hospital and went to a local pharmacy instead – the staff there were shocked by the state of my legs, and I bought medication to treat the bites.

Communal areas

Hallways smell strongly of smoke, the whole place is badly dated: peeling wallpaper, worn carpets, cobwebs everywhere, and generally grubby. There’s plenty of seating which is nice, but the floors are dangerously slippery – my partner nearly fell down the stairs on our first day. The lifts are red hot despite using the fan button in there. The lobby is cool (on occasions) but the hallways have zero aircon! Also the lighting is very poor in most of the hallways.

Food & drink

The buffet itself was surprisingly good: lots of choice, plenty of meat options, fresh salads, tasty cakes, and fresh melon every night. But service was poor: huge queues with lots of pushing, cutlery ran out constantly, and staff never came over to take drink orders. The snack bar had such long queues it was barely worth visiting, and we noticed they labelled meatballs as vegetarian – a big risk for anyone with dietary requirements. We only found out by seeing other guests that free ice cream is available from the quieter bar from 2pm daily – the hotel never told us this.

The “Coffee Salvador” was listed as open but never seemed to be and I think it might be permanently closed as it had no tables or chairs set up.

Pools & beach

Plenty of sunbeds by the pool, but you have to reserve them early or you’ll have no chance. The pool gets very busy, and the music volume is all over the place – sometimes reasonable, other times so loud it’s impossible to relax. The slides look run down, and the pool steps were broken. They do clean the pool every evening, but there’s still a noticeable scum line around the edge. One day they added chlorine right around the pool edge – we saw another guest get in and complain his face was stinging, clearly from loose granules.

That said, one staff member by the poolside deserves a special mention: he goes round with a trolley clearing empty glasses and litter, and does an incredible job! He never stops, races about, takes his role very seriously, and is always polite and smiling – even with the language barrier.

The beach is lovely though: lots of shaded sunbeds, nice sand, and marked-off protected areas for turtles.

Grounds & location

The grounds are very unkempt, with overgrown hedges and weeds everywhere – we noticed a sudden rush to cut back greenery the day after we saw an inspector looking around, so it can be done! One end looks abandoned, though they still water it, so we’re not sure what’s happening there. Pathways are uneven, so take extra care if you use a wheelchair, pushchair, or have mobility issues.

Location-wise it’s great: lots of shops and supermarkets nearby, and the number 50 bus from the main road takes you to Alanya in 30 minutes for just 195 Turkish lira one-way for two adults – much cheaper than taxis.

Bars & entertainment

Bars get very crowded, and queues are often ignored. Cocktails are basic, served in plastic cups with no care or presentation, and they don’t serve popular drinks like piña coladas or Sex on the Beach – even an iced coffee wasn’t available. Fridges are rarely stocked with cold water overnight for the next day.

The amphitheatre is a nice space with plenty of seating, but entertainment is mostly aimed at German speakers – even the kids’ shows were only in German. The evening entertainment starts at 10pm, which feels very late, and advertising is terrible – only one poster in the outside bar showed what was on that day, with no weekly schedule at all.

Summary

This hotel has a fantastic location and could be brilliant, but it’s so run down and poorly managed it’s nowhere near 5-star quality. Having to move rooms three times is ridiculous, and the basic cleanliness and maintenance issues are unforgivable. The hardworking poolside cleaner is proof that there are staff who really care – it’s just a shame the same standard isn’t matched across the rest of the hotel. Such a waste of real potential.
