Public transport runs in front of the hotel allowing easy access to the nearby resort of Alanya, some 20 kilometres away, and local amenities can be found within a kilometre of the hotel. I never normally leave reviews like this, but after what happened to our group, I feel I have a responsibility to warn other travellers.
Our holiday at Arabella World Hotel, Avsallar ended with one of the most frightening experiences we’ve ever had abroad, and I would strongly advise anyone staying here to think very carefully before joining any nightclub trips organised by the hotel’s entertainment team.
The hotel’s entertainment staff promoted and organised a trip to Imaginary Nightclub in Antalya. We trusted the recommendation because it came directly from the hotel.
At the club, we ordered just two whisky and cokes and were never told the prices. At the end of the night, we were presented with a bill of around £50 for the two drinks. When we questioned the charge, we felt threatened and were repeatedly told we had no choice but to pay.
During the dispute, complimentary drinks were offered to members of our group. Soon afterwards, several people became seriously ill and required hospital treatment. Based on what happened, we believe those complimentary drinks may have been tampered with. We had to pay for hospital treatment ourselves, and our holiday was completely ruined.
The incident was serious enough that we filed a police report, and we have retained all of the paperwork relating to the incident.
What upset us almost as much as the incident itself was how the hotel dealt with it. On the night, we were told management would take the matter seriously and help us the following morning. Instead, when we met with the English-speaking manager, we felt blamed for attending the trip, blamed for accepting the drinks, and made to feel as though everything was somehow our fault. We were repeatedly told the entertainment team had worked with the hotel for years and that nothing like this had happened before.
To make matters even worse, after everything we had been through, members of the entertainment team mocked us around the hotel by shouting “Whisky! Whisky!” whenever they saw us. Some members of the bar staff who knew about the incident also laughed and made jokes at our expense. Instead of compassion and support, we were made to feel embarrassed and unwelcome.
Regardless of whether the nightclub is a separate business, this excursion was promoted through the hotel’s entertainment team. As guests, we trusted their recommendation. At the very least, we expected genuine concern, support and an investigation into what had happened. Instead, we were dismissed.
Unfortunately, the hotel itself was also nowhere near what we would expect from a 4-star hotel.
The gym is in an extremely poor state, with old, mismatched equipment that looked more like scrap than a proper fitness facility. The food had very little variety and was almost identical every day. The drinks selection was extremely limited, many facilities felt cheap and poorly maintained, and several things around the hotel simply didn’t work. While some staff members were friendly, others were rude and unprofessional.
We have travelled extensively and rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience crossed every line. Between the hospital visit, the police report, the lack of support from management and the way we were mocked afterwards, this became one of the worst holiday experiences we’ve ever had.
Please be extremely cautious if you are considering booking Arabella World Hotel, and especially avoid any nightclub excursions organised through the entertainment team.
Good hotel but not comfortable pillows but very good staff especially thanks to Murat for his good work and all kinds of contests that he held is a person who knows his work
This is not a 5 star hotel, the staff are rude and there were no English people at all, I asked the staff if I could eat in my room as I was alone and felt intimidated and they wouldn't let me, over priced, the shower has no pressure at all just trickles out, I would never come here again
I’m a huge fan of holidays in Turkey and have stayed in many hotels with my children. Came to this hotel to join a family for a few days and sadly was very disappointed. I’d give credit to Ahmed at the reception, spa staff and guys at the pool bar. They were all friendly, welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately, all other staff were grumpy, moody, no “hello”, no smile; felt like they hated their job. Room was “the best”, apparently, on the top floor. No tea making facilities, hard pillows, poor cleaning, old broken fixtures. I’m not a fussy eater and can always find something to eat, but food here wasn’t good at all, my whole family struggled. No alcohol choice at the beach bar. I’m not a beer drinker and only that was on offer. Very limited snacks. Entertainment was hit and miss, but we made our own party with singing and dancing. Girls at the reception bar were grumpy and you almost had to beg them for a glass of wine while they were on their phones. Staff can be really trained better at this hotel. Room service upgraded and food to be changed. Only gave it a 2 star for those people that made me smile. Otherwise, not a great experience, sadly. This hotel is a 3 star at a push, but definitely not 4. Needless to say we won’t be back.
The hotel, food, and facilities were great and suitable for families. However, I was very disappointed by the behavior of one staff member, the DJ with the blond hair.
He initially asked for my Instagram account and wanted to meet me outside of work. I politely declined. Later, he went further and invited me to come to his place, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable and disrespected. After I refused again, he seemed to realize that his behavior was inappropriate and repeatedly apologized, even giving me a gift as an “apology.”
While I appreciate the hotel overall, this experience negatively affected my stay. Such behavior from a staff member toward a guest is unprofessional and unacceptable. If I had not been leaving that day, I would have reported the incident directly to management.
