The Gran Hotel El Tope boasts a spectacular location with panoramic views of Puerto de La Cruz and the fabulous Valle de la Orotava. Ok experience but non functioning aircon.
The hotel is very convenient located with easy access to the beachwalk and Downtown. Also a nice view to El Teide or the ocean from most rooms. Hotel is very old and needs renovation which is also happening. The noice from construction was though minimal and did not borther us. However if you get a room that is still not renovated, it is not a pleasant experience. The night we arrived the aircon did not cool and dripped water down on the shelves and on the floor ( it was a lot of water). Next morning we pointed it out and nothing happened so at night we mentioned it again and repairman came immediately and fixed it. They also send some to clean after the repair. The aircon no longer dripped while running but still did not cool properly. However next morning when we turned off ithe aircon It started to drip again. They came and repaired that immediately. After that no more dripping for the rest of the 10 days but aircon was still not cooling properly so som very warm nights. The service overall was though very good both at the buffet and at the pools. Also the food selection and quality at the buffet was significant above what we have experienced at other hotels. Especially their weekly seafood buffet was impressive. The hotel has two pools and what small waterland. Especially the new area with pool, waterland and pool bar is very nice. So if we had been so lucky to have gotten one of the new rooms I think the score would have been 4.5 but due to the room it is down to an average 3.

Perfect location, clean hotel al room, delicious food, friendly staff that makes you feel welcome.
The hotel is renovated and very clean. We had a wonderful family room with a terrace; it was modernly furnished and very clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had half-board—all the food was excellent, very tasty and offered a wide variety of choices. Recommend! The Atlantic Splash for children and the hotel's rooftop terrace are fantastic. The location is superb, right next to shops and the local action. We were very pleasantly surprised and we really enjoyed. We highly recommend it! It's a bit harder to find a parking spot, but we had a lucky all days

Good for kids but leaves a lot to be desired for adults
Well situated hotel, very child friendly and newly upgraded. However, there are no shelves or drawers in the bedrooms, only a small towel rail in the bathroom and they ask you to reuse towels each day but nowhere to hang them to dry. No toiletries or shower cap except soap and a shower gel, kettle provided but no tea, coffee or milk. Fridge but nothing in it. Masses of food choices, meals all buffet style. A very beige hotel!
Average but mainly due to room allocation
Nice hotel relatively close to the beach. However not great for people with walking disability. Positioned on a hill with either approximately 200 steps or a steep hill to negotiate. Breakfast was good but dinner disappointing. One main bug bear was the location of our room. We were allocated a room below reception. The corridor was dark and dingy, not appealing at all. The room itself was large and clean, no balcony and due to the fact that you looked out on scrub land, you were unable to leave the window open or you were inundated with bugs. Request an upgrade if allocated these rooms. Otherwise our friends room on the 6th floor was good. We found some of the reception staff difficult to deal with, otherwise other staff were very nice. I would rate this hotel as average.

Bore off
Moan moan moan, all the boring so called "reviewers" leaving bad reviews. Hahaha, you're here in winter, you paid half the summer price, you should know that the Spanish renovate their hotels at this time of year. Ahhhhhh diddummmmms, was it a bit noisy for you.
Staff lovely, food fine, drinks cheap and fine, accommodation very nice, especially in the recently renovated rooms.
Overall, fabulous value for money, unless you're a boring, moaning imbecile.
