Columbus Aparthotel

Location isn't bad. Great hotel and staff, no issues at all. Rooms were cleaned everyday and spacious. Yes, you do hear noise from surrounding bars, but nothing extreme. The burger bar where you get the voucher for is a must, best burgers ever. We booked the whale and dolphin catamaran and the stargazing Mount Teide tour in the hotel, both excellent. Overall, a great stay with friendly staff.

Unfortunately, our hotel stay was extremely disappointing. The room was rundown and in poor condition, with mould, cracked tiles and dust along the skirting boards. The mattress was very hard and uncomfortable, which made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.

Our room (144) was directly above Sam’s Corner pub, where music played until 1am, making it incredibly difficult to sleep. The room was also beside a staircase that was essentially outdoors, with only bars separating it from the outside. This meant we could hear traffic, and because our bedroom was right at the front beside the entrance, we could hear people constantly walking past. We also had cockroaches getting into the room at night, to the point where we had to block the gaps underneath the doors with towels.

The sunbed situation around the pool was also frustrating. Guests were allowed to reserve sunbeds with towels and then disappear for hours. We were sitting by the pool from 10am, while one couple who had reserved their sunbeds did not arrive until around 2pm. The hotel’s layout also meant that the building on the left blocked the sun, leaving only the right-hand side of the pool in direct sunlight.

Even borrowing an iron from reception was unreasonable, costing €15 plus a €10 deposit just to iron one T-shirt. There was also a long list of additional charges displayed at reception, including a charge for changing rooms. This left us feeling that guests were expected to pay extra for basic things and potentially even for a more suitable room.

Overall, the condition of the room, the noise, the lack of sleep, the cockroaches and the additional charges significantly affected our holiday experience. We booked a holiday expecting a reasonable standard of accommodation, but unfortunately, the room we were given fell well below that standard. It was extremely disappointing to have to deal with these issues throughout our stay.

Other than this the food in the corner restaurant at the pool was nice, the staff were friendly and there was a great selection of drinks at the pool bar

The location is not near a beach, 20-30min walk or taxi. Not a bad atmosphere, staff were very pleasant but also very noisy especially in the morning. Our apartment was situated right next to a cleaning cupboard, there was no respect for anyone sleeping, very loud chattering/laughing at 6am in the morning. Added to this, we were on the first floor, directly above a seating area around the pool. The noise from people scraping chairs and sun loungers across the floor was unbearable some nights. This again started 7am and lasted until midnight!!! Our apartment was standard but definitely need a lot of TLC, kitchen cupboard was hanging off, there was a constant bad odour coming from either the kitchen sink or the fridge, we couldn't decide. Shower although good was dated, the chrome in the shower was rusty (room 127), infact hinges on cupboard doors were rusty. This studio room is not the choice for anyone who wakes at different times to their partner as I woke in darkness and it was difficult to make a brew. Everything was noise related....very basic and we won't be returning. 🙄
