Gran Melia Palacio de Isora

TripAdvisor Review
Spain, Europe
Guia de Isora

Elected the best resort of Spain in 2014, the exclusive, award-winning luxury resort Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora is widely considered to be among the best, if not to be the best resort of Europe. It enjoys a fantastic frontline location near Alcalá on the west coast of Tenerife, boasting extraordinary views over the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera. The spectacular cliffs of Los Gigantes are just 5 minutes away by car. Everything about this exceptional hotel is top level: from the extensive 7,500 m2 pool, the bigest pool into the hotel in Europe, landscape to the fantastic restaurants serving excellent Japanese, Italian, Mediterranean and Iberian cuisine, from the mini-club, teenagers club and entertainment for all ages to the exclusive Red Level adults-only area and the 2,000 m2 world-class Spa by Clarins. This hotel combines a fashionable luxury environment with the impressive nature of Tenerife, the Atlantic Ocean and the lofty Mount Teide, thus creating an unrivalled holiday experience.

Beautiful hotel but !!!!!

Rooms very very small !! Not worth half board as eating in Italian restaurant only - food poor. Pool area nice but pool dated . Roof top bar lovely but quiet . The most horrendous thing is that Wild Cats are welcome !!! As I am terrified of them - my holiday was ruined 😡 The germs that they must leave in the hotel can only be imagined. All in all we were really upset and disappointed with our holiday .

Wonderful family holiday

We had a wonderful week's holiday at the Gran Melia in April 2026. We really liked the bed outside the room, the number and range of swimming pools, the different restaurants and the grounds.

Exceptional Resort, Inconsistent Dining & Confusing All-Inclusive Policies even with Red-Level

We stayed at Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora from 26–30 June 2026 as a group of three—my cousin, my 16-year-old daughter, and I.

The property itself is absolutely stunning. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the atmosphere is relaxing, and considering the quality of the resort, we found the room rate to be quite reasonable. One of the biggest highlights is Europe's largest seawater infinity pool (270 metres), which is simply spectacular and a real standout feature of the hotel.

We booked a RedLevel Suite, which was spacious, elegant and very comfortable. However, for the premium we paid, we were disappointed with the view. Although it was marketed as a partial sea view, around 60% of what we actually saw was the parking area. This certainly didn't feel like the RedLevel experience we were expecting.

The bathroom was large and well-designed, but the shower was surprisingly poor. Every time we showered, water flooded onto the bathroom floor, meaning we had to wipe it up ourselves after each use. For a luxury resort, this was disappointing.

The RedLevel Lounge was one of the highlights of our stay. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of high-quality options, and the service from the staff was consistently warm, attentive and professional.

We had booked the RedLevel All-Inclusive package and dined at several restaurants during our stay.

Nami Asian Restaurant (À La Carte): This was unfortunately the biggest disappointment. While the starters were enjoyable, the main courses were well below expectations. The Thai green curry tasted nothing like an authentic Thai curry—it was actually more like a yellow curry—and the chicken curry lacked flavour as well. Vegetarian options were also very limited.

Nami Teppanyaki: Completely different experience. It was excellent from start to finish. Every dish was delicious, and the chef made the evening fun and memorable with his friendly personality and engaging cooking style.

Pangea Food Market: A great buffet with an impressive variety of dishes. The food was consistently good and there was something for everyone.

Oasis Mediterranean Restaurant: Unfortunately, this was another let-down. The vegetarian choices were so limited that we decided not to dine there at all.

Agave Mexican Restaurant: Excellent. We had lunch there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was fresh, flavourful and one of the best meals of our stay.

L'Olio Italian Restaurant: Outstanding. The pasta, pizza, risotto and salads were all delicious and tasted genuinely authentic. This was easily one of our favourite restaurants in the resort.

While we genuinely enjoyed our holiday, I do have concerns about some of the RedLevel All-Inclusive policies.

On one occasion, we ordered only bottled water to our room and were unexpectedly charged €30. I had to go to reception and argue to have the charge removed. The explanation given was that if we had ordered the water through the RedLevel Lounge, it would have been complimentary—but the lounge closes at 7 pm, making this policy rather impractical and confusing. Charging premium all-inclusive guests for basic drinking water simply doesn't reflect the luxury experience the hotel advertises.

Another policy that negatively affected our stay was the drinks service in the restaurants. Despite paying for the All-Inclusive package, cocktails and other alcoholic beverages are not included when dining in many of the restaurants. Guests have to leave their table, walk to a nearby bar to collect the same drink for free, and then return to continue their meal. While technically the drinks are included, this completely interrupts the dining experience and feels unnecessarily inconvenient. Some restaurants don't even offer mocktails or cocktails, making the situation even more frustrating.

Overall, we had a wonderful holiday and the resort has many outstanding qualities—the beautiful property, incredible swimming pool, spacious rooms, excellent RedLevel breakfast, and a few truly exceptional restaurants. However, the culinary experience is inconsistent, with some restaurants falling well below the standard expected of a luxury five-star resort. More importantly, the management should reconsider several of its RedLevel All-Inclusive policies. Guests paying a premium expect convenience and a seamless luxury experience, not confusing rules and unnecessary inconveniences.

With improvements to the food quality and a more customer-friendly approach to the all-inclusive experience, Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora could easily become one of the finest resorts in Tenerife.

Stunningly beautiful

Stunningly beautiful hotel resort, fantastic customer services for adults and families alike. I wholeheartedly recommend this resort and will be returning in the autumn. I've been to Melia hotels before, but this surely is the jewel in the crown. It boasts 10 top class restaurants mostly around a main square. There are pools galore, including the biggest infinity pool in Europe. The adults only section (Red) is an oasis of peace whilst the little ones have supervised children's clubs to allow their parents to relax.

Excellent stay - infinity pool, all inclusive food and beverage the best anywhere

Excellent stay as always.

Food and drinks are the highest quality for an all inclusive, especially in Oasis for lunch. The infinity pool is the highlight.

Socrates, the pool waiter, and the Italian Guest Relations Manager are stars.

Entertainment is good overall especially the African show. The hotel could benefit from a tribute act and more rock/bands as the weekday entertainment is on the tame side.

Rooms can need some tlc but our partial sea view room was maintained well.
