Sol Mirador de Calas

Just came back from a 7 night stay, I was dreading it reading some of the reviews the night before we left 😬. OMG we were pleasantly surprised staff were helpful, rooms were cleaned every day and we were give glasses to drink out of in the evenings. We walked every day, found 2 beaches that were lovely. We may return with the family ❤️

Stayed at this hotel for the 2nd time last month. A completely different experience to when we visited last year. This year we had our 5 month old baby travelling with us. I emailed the hotel prior to our visit to reserve a kettle as we would rely on this to make our babies bottles. They emailed back to say we have to pay €10 deposit once we arrive which was fine. I trusted the kettles to be clean so I only checked the kettle when we got to our room. The lime scale was soooo thick and when I put water into the kettle, the limescale was floating around like large flakes of white paint. I wouldn’t drink out of that myself, never mind my 5 month old baby. So I took the kettle to reception and requested a swap. They gave me another kettle which was exactly the same which I refused. They then brought a different kettle out which looked ever so slightly better but I felt like I didn’t have much choice at this point so I took it to the room with the idea of cleaning it. I started off by boiling the kettle and leaving it for 30 mins. When I returned to the kettle after 30 mins, all of the water out of the kettle had leaked all over the kettle base, the cupboard and the floor. At this point, I was frustrated because this was the 3rd kettle. I went back down to reception and told them I was not happy and that all the kettles were disgusting / broken. I was given the same kettle that I was given on arrival and refused that. They then brought out a brand new kettle so I felt abit better about that. The air con in the room wasn’t working for the whole stay. The room trapped heat and it was like an oven. I was concerned about my baby sleeping in a room so hot with no AC. So I went on their WhatsApp chat and reported this. They said they are waiting for maintenance to fix it but could supply us with a fan. The fan was a waste of time. It circulated hot air. After 3 nights of hardly any sleep due to the heat in the room and the baby being fussy due to the heat, I complained again and asked if there was any other room we could be moved to. The response was that the AC not working is a widespread issue. I then began to ask a number of other guests who were staying at the hotel and they all said that their AC was working fine. The hotel was no where near as busy as it was last year so I’m sure they would have had another room available somewhere in the hotel. Travel cot did the job but as the mattress was wipeable, it was very sweaty so we had to use something absorbent inbetween the mattress and the sheet. Food was edible but repetitive which most all inclusive are. Some of the food was not labeled or labelled incorrectly so you had to guess what it was. Including the icecream. For example, the vanilla, coconut and lemon icecream all looked the same. Only 2 lifts per building which sometimes had a long wait. One of the pools (not the main one but the other big one) was dirty. There was a layer of grease and green stuff in a large corner of the pool and all round the edges where the water meets the tiles. I can’t comment on the main pool as we didn’t go in that this time. All pools were very cold, including the baby pools. To a point that even I couldn’t stand the temperature in the smallest pool. Location is ok if you want a quieter area on the island. Nothing much around the hotel but you can walk about 10mins to some shops and pubs. There is a cove just to the side of the hotel and the a 15-20 min walk to another beach. Beautiful views from the balcony if you have a sea view. Sun loungers weren’t too bad to get as it wasn’t peak time. However if you want a specific lounger such as a sea view, you’ll have to go and put your towel down very early. Some of the loungers were better than others, and some of the parasols were broken. Staff were nice, especially the restaurant and bar staff. We won’t be returning to this hotel again. Some things would make me question the hotel being a 4*. Such as damaged furniture and some of the cleanliness.
