Location ace but hotel shabby!
Currently here now. Day 3 of 7. Location is wonderful with access via steps to Cala Farrera which is lovely- we have hired a tiki umbrella and two sun loungers for three days which has been good. It’s a short 10/15 minute walk to Cala D’or. There are lots of shops and restaurants along the way into the busy part of Cala D’Or. Beds comfortable which is great so we’ve all slept well so far. Cleaners do a good job in the rooms. Unfortunately, would have to be negative about most other things with the hotel... Air con- does work in rooms but it could be colder. The restaurant is awfully hot, with dated old ceiling fans which everyone wants to sit under and an AC unit by the drinks but doesn’t circulate well. We had to eat quickly before breaking out sweating. Same with the communal areas- hallways, lifts etc all boiling and vents that have no cold air coming out of them. Carpets are fraying in aread and threshold metal bars on the edges of the stairs aren’t fitted that well so it’s a bit of a trip hazard on some of the steps. Lifts- don’t work well, take ages to come, go up/down when pressed the opposite plus with no air con we have chosen the stairs instead. Still no air con but better than waiting ages for the lifts! Room- decor clean and simple, you can tell it’s had a refresh. Shower works ok but water damage to the floor and door which makes its look a bit unsightly. Balcony needs updating, the door leading to it and the flooring need some attention. Food- the buffet restaurant is just standard in my opinion. The meat that’s cooked is changed daily with fish options too but is not the best. A decent selection of hot/cold food but the quality just isn’t there. The breakfast is probably the best meal. I haven’t found any dishes I’m rushing back for seconds for. The staff do work very hard, tidying tables, serving drinks promptly and replenishing food so I can’t fault that. Swimming pools- the website says it has 4 large swimming pools- none are large at all. There is a small pool overlooking the beach. The concrete around it is cracked and just looks like it needs re doing. It just looks very tired and un inviting. The sunbeds are all ok and the views over the cove is lovely. Around the other side of the hotel is another pool with a tiny square kids paddling pool next to it. It is not a big pool either and again quite old. Cabana type beds have been added around it which do make it look a bit nicer. The 4th pool is an indoor one in a wellness centre which you only have access too if you have chosen the All Inclusive plus package! The updated bar next to the reception area is pleasant and the entertainment area looks well kept. Towels- 5 euro per towel deposit. If you want to change your towels for new ones it’s 2euros per towel! We have done it today but will not for the rest of the holiday. None of the bad things are the hotel staff’s responsibility, they work very hard.
This is a bigger issue where this hotel does not meet the standards that Barcelo hotel group boasts about their hotels. We visited Barcelo Playa Blanca in Lanzarote in October and it was great. It was a pretty new hotel and I understand this hotel has been bought and taken over by Barcelo but they can’t just redecorate areas and stick their signage up to make it great. It needs refurbishment in many areas to get the standard to a 4 star. It has so much potential to be amazing due to the location and I hope I see that in the future!

Amazing place, amazing Entertainment team!!!
What a fabulous hotel, really clean, very friendly and such a lovely vibe. The entertainment team really made our holiday what a fantastic team they were. we will definitely be coming back!!! Loved everything about the hotel, our view was fantastic, could not fault the food, pools were great the the location is spot on. Big shout out to the entertainment crew what a fantastic team they are.
exceeded expectations
exceeded my expectations, seen mixed reviews before i visited last week but i would 100% be returning, everything was amazing and the atmosphere was so nice, all staff were friendly the entertainment was great and the hotel was very clean, rooms cleaned everyday the only things i would point out is the aircon in the rooms doesnt get very cold and i couldnt really feel it while sleeping as the vent was hidden round the corner of the room, however this might of just felt this way due to the high temperatures this summer, we got a standard room no sea view and i was expecting the bed to be a little bigger as the size of the room was good, we were contemplating getting a sea view room as the views are obviously incredible but honestly you dont need it we were never in the room as there was so much to do the food wasn’t amazing but we always found something to eat so we didnt really mind, snack bar was amazing, the pools always felt a little bit unclean, again not too sure if that was just due to the heat and the pool being warmer but the water felt weirdly thick, none of the negative points of the hotel affected us badly though really and i will definitely be returning it was amazing picture added to show i visited
Great location, less than great hotel
Location is wonderful, but sadly I feel this makes the hotel less inclined to make the necessary improvements and some areas are definitely tired. I’d put this hotel at an average 3 star, certainly not a 4 star. After asking to change rooms initially as it was dark, damp and ant infested, we were changed to another room. Slightly less dark but equally as ant infested (we had no food or drink in our room to attract them). Management denied they have a problem with ants or insects. Attached photos say otherwise.
Average, don’t understand the five star reviews
Aside from reception area which was bright modern and inviting, the hotel interior was generally quite dated and dull. The room itself was basic and of need of maintence. There were marks on the bedding and chair, and scuffs on the walls. Our room also felt extremely damp. Our sheets felt wet when we got into bed at night and the room never felt cold despite the aircon. There was no ventilation in the bathroom, and the shower leaked which exacerabated the issue. Staff said this was just because of the humidity and gave us a fan, which did help slightly.
The pool areas were disappointing - two small pools with loads of sunbeds on uninviting concrete flooring. We never bothered to sit by the pools for this reason as it was quite a depressing feeling area,, instead opting for the beach everyday.
We were also caught completely off guard mid stay, when asked by a staff member to bring our passports down to reception immediately for checks. There was a lack of communication by staff while they checked our details, only to be given an 800 euro bill for the other half of the hotel cost. Regrettably we had forgotton about this, but the staff member who checked us in had too. This was a nasty surprise half way through our holiday and no apology was offered from staff for the mix up.
12 hours before our departure, we asked reception to book us a taxi to the aiport. They said they were already pretty full with reservations but would try. To no shock, the morning of departure they said no taxi could be confirmed so we would have to organise a transfer ourselves. They said they only have a small taxi company working with the hotel, which is surprising considering the number of guests they have. Again, not much proactive help or assistance offered from staff.
The only positive from our stay is the location of the hotel. Very central, close to walk to all beaches, resturants and shops, and we had a beautiful sea view from our room.
