Pool area is not kept clean and today at all, the rubbish around the pool when putting the towels out is actually a disgusting (people be respectful and tidy up your own rubbish).I personally picked up the Pringles packs and straws that had been left, cigarette butts everywhere. We have also passed rubbish two nights in a row now that’s hasn’t been cleaned up. This hotel is definitely not 4⭐️ , hoping Javier Rodríguez sees this asap and gives the pool area a good clean before I head home. (Pics are of the area around my bed only).
We recently stayed at the Beatriz Hotel & Spa in Lanzarote, and although there were a handful of positives, it wasn’t an experience we’d choose to repeat.
The best aspects were the location, just a few minutes from the airport, making transfers quick and easy, and if you enjoy aviation, watching the planes come in and out is a nice bonus. We also liked that sunbeds couldn’t be reserved, and this was managed well, meaning everyone had a fair chance of getting one. Reception staff were excellent throughout our stay, particularly one member of staff whose English was fantastic and who couldn’t have been more helpful.
Unfortunately, that’s where most of the positives ended.
The hotel feels very dated and shabby throughout. The rooms are tired, with yellow walls, loose electrical sockets and wardrobes missing their mirrored doors. We know these should have had doors, as friends staying elsewhere in the hotel had them. The showers had good water pressure, but the drainage was awful, meaning we had to keep turning the shower off every few minutes to stop the tray overflowing. Air conditioning was also poor and took several nights before the room became comfortable.
Maintenance generally seemed to be lacking. Drinks machines were frequently out of order or dispensing flat drinks, many TV channels didn’t work, bars and communal areas were often left uncleared from the previous evening, and there always seemed to be something broken. Spotting a cockroach became something of a daily occurrence, which certainly wasn’t something we’d expected.
The all-inclusive package felt very basic. There were no snacks available throughout the day for children, and even ice creams and ice lollies had to be purchased separately. There wasn’t even complimentary bottled water available for our four-year-old. Guests are encouraged to buy reusable cups for €1 for drink refills, although thankfully we’d read reviews beforehand and brought our own. Pool towels also came with extra charges – a €10 deposit per towel and €2 every time you wanted a clean replacement.
The sports bar was particularly frustrating. It was the only place showing live football, yet it wasn’t included in the all-inclusive package, so drinks there had to be paid for separately. During major sporting events it was often staffed by just one barman, resulting in queues of around 30 minutes. Service across the bars was painfully slow, ice regularly ran out, self-service drinks machines were frequently broken or serving flat drinks, and some restaurant and bar staff were surprisingly rude or short-tempered, although others were perfectly pleasant.
The food was acceptable but nothing more than average. There was enough variety, but nothing stood out. As someone with coeliac disease, I wasn’t convinced by the allergy labelling, which appeared inconsistent. For example, chips in one area were labelled gluten-free while seemingly identical chips elsewhere weren’t, making it difficult to trust the information.
The entertainment was another disappointment. The kids’ club was genuinely depressing. I took my four-year-old to have a look but left almost immediately. It was a dark, dingy room with damaged toys and absolutely no atmosphere. I wouldn’t have considered leaving him there. The evening mini disco consisted of just three songs, which was incredibly repetitive and disappointing for younger children, especially over the course of a holiday. The entertainment team tried hard, but overall lacked energy, and the underground entertainment venue made everything feel rather gloomy and soulless.
Safety standards also left something to be desired. On one evening there was broken glass on the dance floor where children were playing. When I pointed it out to staff they seemed largely unconcerned, so I ended up clearing it away myself to prevent a child from standing on it.
There were also several smaller frustrations throughout the holiday. Large inflatables and balls aren’t allowed in the swimming pool, staff often weren’t aware of maintenance issues (such as taking a deposit for pool cues only for us to discover the outdoor pool table wasn’t working), and drinks machines were sometimes recommended by bar staff despite already being out of order.
Overall, Beatriz Hotel & Spa feels like a hotel that has been allowed to deteriorate over time. While there are some genuinely friendly staff and a couple of positives, the dated surroundings, poor maintenance, inconsistent service and underwhelming all-inclusive offering mean it falls well below what we’d expect. We certainly won’t be returning.
Girls holiday, mum and sisters, we had a fab time! A holiday is100% what you make it! I was worried before arriving after seeing quite a few negatives regarding staff, food and rooms. I’m so glad we ignored! Firstly, the rooms are dated and in need for a refurb, but everything worked, beds, fresh linen and towels daily, hot water ect. It’s just a place to get your head down in the evening so this really did not phase us. The food! We never went hungry, there’s lots of negatives about this however, I think people expect too much from an all inclusive! The fresh grilled meat was lovely, and we always found something. The burger bar was open every day so it did break up the buffet style. We ate at the Italian and Chinese, again these are not a le carte style, I think this is what people expect! the food was self served and was nice to break up the evening buffet, we enjoyed both! We didn’t end up making breakfast every day, but I think this was maybe the only slight let down food wise, but still filled up in the morning! All soft drinks are branded which was lovely, self serve drinks close at the pool around 4-4;30 which is a little frustrating as the queue for the pool bar gets a little long. Lots of people had their own flasks/cups which the staff were happy to fill up with drinks which I think is amazing! Wish we knew this before! You have to pay a €1 deposit for their cups which you get back at the end of your stay, I think this is a great idea and stops all the lazy people leaving cups everything around the pool! The hotel itself was clean, and in pretty good condition including the pool! Location was perfect for a quiet evening, plane spotting and a more relaxed feel. Reception can arrange a taxi for you to go wherever, just give them your room number and a taxi arrives within 5-10 mins! We went to the main del carmen area twice, was nice to get out and explore a little more, cost roughly €5-6 each way. We didn’t use the evening entertainment as it was very busy, hard to find a seat and long queues at the bar there so we decided to venture out every evening. Overall we had a great stay and I wouldn’t let anyone’s negative comments deter you for trying it yourselves. Don’t go expecting lavish, gourmet food or 5* vibes. Looking to rebook with the whole family very soon!
We have had such a lovely stay. Don’t read the reviews. Great restaurants/food. Staff are lovely. All inclusive deal is brilliant. And lovely spa. Lots going on within the hotel. Only negative would be it’s not close to central Peurto Del Carmen - maybe 30 min walk? Maybe more…. There are restaurants and shops near by though, and it wasn’t a problem for us. Highly recommended!
After visiting Lanzarote for the first time and staying at Hotel Beatriz & Spa, we’re so glad we chose this hotel.
From the moment we arrived, the staff were lovely and gave us a simple but informative breakdown of the hotel. They also helped us navigate our way around, which was much appreciated as the hotel is absolutely huge.
We arrived very late at night, and food was waiting for us on arrival, which was such a thoughtful touch after a long journey.
Our first day started with breakfast, which offered a great variety of hot buffet food, as well as breads, meats, cheeses, fruit and pastries.
The pool was beautiful and kept immaculate. The staff clearly took pride in making sure there was space for all families to relax. We spent the day by the pool enjoying drinks and ice lollies, and there were always plenty of staff around. The children’s pool was fantastic, allowing parents to keep an eye on their little ones while still being able to relax.
The mini golf and small play park were clean and tidy, with plenty of activities available, including games rooms and beautiful gardens to enjoy when you wanted to escape the sun for a while.
Dinner offered a lovely, fresh selection each evening. Although it was a little repetitive, there was something for everyone, from chicken and vegetables to pizzas, pasta and plenty of delicious desserts.
The only downfall, and my only criticism, is the half-board system. We were more than happy to pay for drinks with our dinner, but having the drinks menu taken away almost felt like a punishment for not being all-inclusive.
Unfortunately, we were interrupted during our meal by one member of staff, a small blonde lady, who raised her voice to tell us we had to pay for the fizzy drink my little one had. I was completely aware that drinks weren’t included and had every intention of paying. Being interrupted mid-meal over a few euros, after spending so much to stay here, felt unnecessary and quite rude.
Perhaps introducing a different coloured wristband for half-board guests would help staff identify guests more easily and avoid situations like this. It would make the experience feel much more welcoming.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The hotel is beautiful, the views are breathtaking, the area feels very safe for children, and the cleanliness throughout was exceptional.
We’re already looking to book again because the good far outweighed the bad.
Thank you to the wonderful housekeeping team and all the hardworking staff who helped make our holiday so memorable.
