Peaceful location
My husband and I went to this hotel in September for 10 nights. We had a junior suite sea view which was beautiful and picturesque of the sea and surrounding areas couldn't fault it and it as a nice balcony which had 2 chairs and a table and 2 sun loungers. Our room was nice and spacious with a separate lounge, the bedroom had a walk in wardrobe, safe, iron and ironing board couldn't fault the room, it was cleaned everyday and clean towels daily, thank you to the staff who cleaned them. The location was very nice, lovely walk to the marina which was about 15 minutes, and about 40 mins to the beach with sunbeds & brollies and the sea easy to get in beautiful. The hotel was nice just a few things what let it down, air con in our room was fine but if you went in the bar in the reception it was like a sauna, we used to go for a couple drinks before we went to eat and it was so hot and uncomfortable, my husband went to receptionist and asked why there was no air con on and the man on reception said that they only had it on in the restaurant and in the rooms 🥵 Food was hit and miss some days you would have something which was really hot then another the food was cold, shame about that cause some of the food when warm was really nice, what I didn't like and have never been in an hotel like this before is have lunch in the pool snack bar, served on paper plates, and it was more fast food like burgers, hotdogs, chips this is alright maybe for a couple days but not 10, I would prefer to sit in the restaurant and eat off proper plates and be sat comfortable not on tables like being in a work canteen. Entertainment was good on the nights we went and watched them, didn't start while 21.45 we didn't mind that though. Papagayo is really a quiet and peaceful location if you are wanting something more livelier you would need to go more to playa blanca. If the hotel didn't have the issues I have mentioned i would definitely have rated this a 4 star, Even with some of the negatives I have given it we still enjoyed our holiday and if the price was right we would go again but not for 10 nights probably 7

Home from home
This was our third visit to this hotel, the first time, I came as a solo traveller and loved it and felt very safe. Have been holidaying here for 30 years and stayed at lots of different hotels of varying star ratings. Booking a sea view room is a must worth every penny. This hotel just suits us, we feel at home the minute we arrive. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help you if there's a problem We were worried about the change of lunch only at the pool bar, but the selection has been increased, and it was fine for us. It's not all paper plates, theres plenty of bbq style recyclable crockery too My only criticism would be that some of the themed nights in the resturants were a little odd e.g mexican night also had Chinese food and Indian samosas One or the other would have been better Would I come here again? Definitely am booking for christmas and new year 2027 as soon as we get home
Some good and some very bad points
We stayed with our grown up children in 2 junior suites with sea view. These are spacious with balconies looking out at the sea. These premium rooms allow us to go to the premium lounge where coffee, soft drinks and lager as well as some stale pastries are served. On checking in, the young lady receptionist was pleasant but the older lady was a bit of a job’s worth. I provided the booking reference for my room, and passports but she still insisted on seeing the booking reference for the other room even though I told her that I already emailed to ask if we could have a room near to each other. She acknowledged this fact but said she still wanted to see the booking reference. This is inconvenient as we had no WiFi to locate the email. She had the passports, why not just look up the names? Once I went to ask for something, she said she couldn’t get to the drawer because her colleague was standing in front of it. This made us laugh because 1, we never said do it immediately and 2, why couldn’t she ask her colleague to move out of the way? We could only conclude that she was not talking to her colleagues. The reception area was nice ( for cooler days) and the swimming pool was a good size with nice depth. The restaurant was like a canteen. The food was terrible and dangerously salty. I think the ingredients (meat) were boiled for hours to make them tender and the broth removed before adding a ton of salt to mask the lack of flavour and to put guests off from eating the food. It’s a win win win for the hotel budget. Towards the end of our 2 weeks stay, we ate out in the evenings even though it was a bit of a trek to some of the restaurants. The staff at the canteen were miserable and some were borderline rude. A few ladies were polite ( the one with the tattoos was very nice) and the younger chap who showed us to the table had good manners. The older supervisor/maitre d’ guy reminded me of Joe Biden and couldn’t speak English. The crockery and cutlery were not checked for cleanliness before they brought them out. As a result, I found food, (egg, smoothie) leftover on several occasions . This made me paranoid and I had to wipe the plates down with a paper napkin before use. One evening, we were shown to a table that had dirty finger smear on the knife. Probably been handled by a waiter with dirty fingers. I discreetly swap it with the next table and got caught by the waiter who looked about 12. He shouted ‘why’. I went over and politely said that I was fussy but other people might not be ( I witnessed several people putting food in their mouths by the buffet counter and licked their fingers so these people were not fussy about using clean cutlery). I thought that was the end of it as he should have been embarrassed for doing a bad job by not making sure everything is presentable for the hotel guests. I went to sit down to eat but he followed me and gave me a lecture about how other guests wouldn’t want to use that knife etc. All the time he was talking in a very loud shouty voice. I had enough and told him to stop and leave me alone to ‘enjoy’ my dinner. The supervisor ‘Joe Biden’ witnessed this from the front of the restaurant. I went over to tell him that his waiter shouted at a me and he had no right to shout at guests. I thought someone might come to me to resolve the situation but nothing. They acted as though it was fine to shout at guests. It’s a shame because I always leave a tip for the restaurant staff at the end of our holiday. Some of the evening entertainment shows were good. We enjoyed Night Fever and the acrobatic. Vanessa from the animation team was very nice. We enjoyed the archery and shooting. Would I go back or recommend this place? NO, NO, NO. I would warn the elderly people and young children to be careful about eating the very salty food. There are several hotels in better locations, don’t save a few £s by coming to this place.
A wonderful stay
I’m currently staying at the Mirador, and have the best sea view I’ve ever had . Room 538 . My room is spacious and has everything you could need. All areas of the hotel are very clean , and the staff work very hard keeping it so . All the staff I have encountered have been very friendly and polite, and reception staff attentive and very quick to send someone to check my safe and air conditioning when there was a problem. The hotel is situated in a quieter area, but close enough to walk to the Marina in around 15 minutes & around 30 minutes to the gorgeous Playa Dorada Beach . I took advantage of the free shuttle bus at 10.15 from the hotel to the beach which was really handy . So far I have only spent one full day at the hotel , as I prefer going to the beach , so have only joined in one activity which was air rifle shooting , I won’t make the paras anytime soon , but really enjoyed it and the activity team are great , getting people to join in and encouraging you. I’m pleased to say I’m really enjoying the food at the hotel. Some previous reviews made me very apprehensive especially as I’m all inclusive , but the standard has been very good, and all the food I’ve had has been cooked well and hot and not cold/ lukewarm. There is a lot of fish options , which I love , but always meat alternatives if you don’t. I also really like that there are numerous water stations around the hotel so you can fill up bottles without having to buy extra water . There is a very well equipped supermarket up the rd if there is anything you need or have forgotten which is handy . All in all I’m having a great time at the Mirador , and would have no hesitation in returning, especially for the fantastic view .

The room
The hotel is generally quite large, but it never felt overcrowded during our stay in October. Our room was on the 4th floor (although the floor numbering/layout is rather confusing, to be fair — it took me two days to get used to it, lol!).
The room itself was quite spacious and clean, with plenty of room for our luggage and other belongings. We had an east-facing balcony, which meant we could enjoy beautiful sunrises every morning. 🌅 The bathroom had a shower over the bath and was clean and in good condition. Another big plus was the free safe in the room. Housekeeping came daily, with towels changed regularly.
The beds, however…
Oh, the beds! 😂 We had two single beds pushed together, but they kept moving apart with the slightest movement. You really need to either invest in proper double beds or find a way to keep the two beds securely together. On top of that, they felt quite unstable. Definitely something that needs improvement!
The pool
The pool was a nice size, with plenty of sunbeds around it. We never had any problems finding an available sunbed, which was a big plus.
The food
The food was really tasty, with a nice selection at breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was plenty of choice overall. My only little complaint about breakfast was the lack of sliced tomatoes (although small tomatoes were available).
And a funny little detail: a Bloody Mary station at breakfast! 😂 Definitely not something you see every day!
A lovely birthday touch 🎂
I also received a little birthday note, which was such a lovely gesture and a really nice personal touch. It's always nice when a hotel makes an effort to make your special day feel a little more special!
Overall
We had a very enjoyable stay. The room was spacious and clean, the sunrises were beautiful, the pool was great, and the food was delicious. The little birthday note was a lovely bonus, too. The beds definitely need some attention, but apart from that, we had a good experience.
