The family-friendly hotel Sol Lanzarote is perfectly situated in a peaceful location in Matagorda, frontline to the sandy beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Guests will appreciate a wonderful pool landscape; part of the hotel is designed in a Flintstones style, with themed rooms and a themed restaurant as well as a Flintstones Bazaar. A shopping centre is only 200 metres away; the popular holiday resort of Puerto del Carmen is easily reachable by public transportation. An ideal hotel for families with children who wish to spend a beach holiday. We would like to inform you that the time has come to proceed with the repair of our three pools to offer a modern and functional product. For all this we wanted to inform you that we have decided, for the best achievement of this repair and above all to avoid inconvenience to our customers and partners, proceed to the temporary closure of this pool from the day 12/11/2020 with an estimated duration of 1 month. We are delighted to inform that the hotel will have another 2 swimming pools available and all the services will run as normal within the new reality adapted to the Covid-19 under the program Stay Safe with Melia.
Great place, food was good, great staff, enjoyed playing darts with lorenzo, great guy 👍🏻
Last day at Sol Lanzerote and it’s been amazing! Came as a family of 4, I have a 20 year old, 18 year old and a 4 year old and there was something for everyone. Always managed to get a sun bed although it is frustrating people leaving their towels there all day when they’re not even using the pool area . Staff are all so friendly and helpful, rooms cleaned daily and they are a good size, lots of space. Was dreading the food after reading the reviews but there was really nothing to worry about, huge variety. Even the snack bar had a good selection (cakes are amazing!) close to everything you need, lovely walk across the sea front day and night and plenty to see either direction . The only thing I can fault is the kids entertainment through the day, there is a kids club but we didn’t use it so there wasn’t much else for her to do other than the pool. They did a foam party one day though and she loved that! They had a kids disco some nights and Lorenzo is fantastic with everyone but it’s only on for half an hour and it’s not the best with the same few songs sang etc. Loved the photographer, really nice guy and fantastic at making the kids laugh so you can get some really good photos of your holiday. Amazing place would definitely recommend
I stayed at Sol Lanzarote and it was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, things went downhill. We waited an hour and a half just to get the safe sorted in our room. Then, to my horror, I found cockroaches in the bathroom despite cleaning over two days, the dead cockroaches remained in the room.
The worst part was on day three when two men with hotel key cards entered my room while I was just getting out of the shower in a towel. When I raised this with reception, staff were dismissive and refused to help, even telling me they wouldn’t deal with me anymore. I had to take extra measures to feel safe, like blocking the door with tables overnight.
After being moved to a new room, I found the cleaners hadn’t provided a duvet, so I had to sleep without one for the last two days of my holiday. To top it all off, I found writing left in my cheese toastie at the bar, clearly from the food wrapper.
This stay was extremely disappointing and has damaged my trust in the hotel’s standards. I wouldn’t recommend Sol Lanzarote to anyone looking for a comfortable or safe holiday.
Location - Excellent location as short drive from airport, and right on the sea front. 10 minute taxi from Carmen or a 30 minute walk.
Atmosphere - Nice overall atmosphere with friendly staff from the front desk to the cleaning team.
Staff - everyone seems friendly with a few call outs. Juan Pablo the lifeguard is excellent and always looks out for people's safety in the pool and at poolside. He would always try to make sure you had an umbrella on hot days and chat away as he past by. The entertainment team are led by Lorenzo who is a larger than life character and really gets people interacting with all activities. A good laugh at all times!!
Entertainment - Entertainment is on throughout the day for all ages but mainly based in the pool for children and adults. Never been to a hotel with so much activities during the day with no pressure to get involved. Night time Entertainment was on whole pretty good. Music, dancing, pool parties with live DJ set, live bands all lead by the entertainer Lorenzo.
Food - Food is your typical buffet style where it can be hit or miss. A lot of veal and venison is served and a lot of fish. My Son Is Autistic and has a pretty limited diet. He has lived on chips for 2 weeks as no chicken nuggets were served once. I know the hotel has to cater for a large number of guests with varied diets, but chicken nuggets should be a standard for picky eaters, young and old. Choice of alcohol is good and quality is good even although local. Catering team are also very good and look to help you find a table when you enter if the dining hall is busy.
Rooms - Rooms are ok. Two rooms in the Superior room but only a TV in the main bedroom where adults would sleep. The couch bed room has the sockets for another TV on the wall. Furniture is good in terms of function and practicality but the usual minor damage for an hotel.
Cleanliness - Hotel overall could do with a good tidy and a lick of paint to freshen it up. Rooms were kept clean daily by cleaning team. We did have an issue with ants jn our bathroom and balcony which can't be helped. The hotel dealt with it quickly and was fine for a few days then the ants came back. Had ti buy a spray and have had no issues since. Our room was 2323 and looked out over where the cats houses were, which we had no issue with as ee are cat lovers. However, the smell of hot cat poo was overwhelming at times. I did raise this with the reception and it was dealt with, 5 days after it was raised, so avoided the balcony at the hottest points if the day.
Summary - A good hotel which could have slightly more child orientated food. Would I stay again...yes but only once the price is down.
The animation team were really good and worked really hard. Rooms were clean but dated. We could always find something to eat, need more choice for kids.
