- Gran Canaria Holidays
- San Agustin
- Paradisus by Melia Gran Canaria

Situated right in front of the spectacular San Agustín beach and very close to the Playa del Inglés beach and the shopping centre, this luxurious hotel is the best option to stay on the island. Thanks to its excellent location in one of the main tourist resorts in Gran Canaria, its complete and comfortable facilities and the quality of its services will make each stay unforgettable. The airport can be reached within a 20-minute car ride. The rooms are equipped with cosy beds and the needed amenities to please all types of guests. The property offers activities to be entertained and have a fun holiday. Business travellers might use the function rooms and then relax at the spa. Families will also enjoy a children's playground and the outdoor pool area.
I want to start by saying that this is not a review saying the hotel isn’t nice, because it is. The surroundings are very clean and well maintained, the rooms are lovely and the Reserve pool area is a definite highlight. Our bed was very comfortable, we had a lovely balcony with a good view, and the staff were friendly for the most part.
However, there were several things during our stay which, for me, stopped the hotel from feeling like a genuine 5-star experience.
The cleanliness of our bathroom could have been better, particularly the grout in the shower. We also occasionally noticed a damp smell coming from the shower drain after using it. Towels were sometimes threadbare.
One of the biggest negatives for me was being repeatedly contacted by someone called Judith regarding joining the Meliá Club. We were initially told there was a free gift waiting for us at reception, which turned out to be an introduction to the club. She called my mobile repeatedly over a couple of days and then approached me personally and said my room number I was staying in. I found this very uncomfortable and felt quite hounded, particularly when we were simply trying to enjoy our holiday.
Unfortunately, the food was another disappointment. For us, it was average rather than 5-star quality. For example, the yoghurt bowl was advertised as being served with fresh fruit, but the yoghurt wasn’t particularly cold and the fruit looked and tasted like tinned fruit rather than fresh.
Kanna was nice, but we didn’t think the buffet was particularly impressive. We also had an experience in the Italian restaurant where one of the servers took my husband’s plate away while he was still eating, and they charged us €18 for a carbonara which wasn’t included in the all inclusive.
The food service around the Reserve area also raised some concerns. We saw food left out from breakfast, including sandwiches that weren’t refrigerated, with flies around the food. I also had a sparkling water from the shack which didn’t taste right, so I chose not to drink it.
Location-wise, there isn’t a huge amount immediately around the hotel, although the surroundings themselves are very clean and pleasant. It is also close to the beach, which will be a big positive if that’s what you’re looking for.
Overall, we did enjoy aspects of our stay and the Reserve pool, room and balcony were definitely the highlights. But when you’re paying for a 5-star hotel, you expect the food, cleanliness, service and attention to detail to consistently reflect that standard.
For us, there were simply too many little things that fell short, so unfortunately we wouldn’t return. It has a lot going for it, but based on our experience, it didn’t quite live up to the 5-star standard we were expecting.
We stayed 25-31 Aug as a family (2 adults, 2 sons 14 an 22), in 2 separate rooms on the 5th floor. Great housekeeping staff, rooms and all areas are clean. Great service, great food, amazing location! Special thank you to Xavi, who makes the best steaks ever, according to our sons feedback :)
Thank you to Diego at the main restaurant for being always attentive :)
Great show at the next door Scala, highly recommended!
We also enjoyed the workshops and coming back home with handmade necklaces and bookmarks.
All in all, great hotel, we will be back!
Fab week away from start to finish!
Amazing staff! Special mention to Brahim at the evening entertainment. So attentive and such a nice person 😊
Was a reserve guest. Checked in in lobby.
Not happy with the service at all from the Paradisus by Melia, it was abysmal.
Having to chase servers for a drink, always feeling ignored when sitting down at a table. Went Kana today for lunch, walked out after 10 mins as nobody saw to us, so we walked to the buffet instead. In the Buffet we was not offered a drink throughout the entire lunch meal and that is not good enough. Not the first time this is happening, but other times waiting 10-15 minutes to even get served. Also had part of the glass shard in my mouth from the glass I was drinking from.
Dined at the Italian restaurant the other night and waited 55 minutes for a tiramisu, that was obviously forgotten about as they came back and asked us again what we was waiting on, and then it came within 2 mins, as it appears something already pre-made, and was terrible. Missed the evening entertainment as a result of the long wait. Another night we went to Vibora bar, only 3 tables occupied in there, we sat waited for 20 mins before we left as wasn’t offered a drink. Very poor
I’ve also asked two different places here for an iced coffee but been told twice that it’s not possible? This day and age, iced coffees are the in thing. Why don’t you serve iced coffees with syrups. I don’t drink hot drinks, and I cannot get an iced coffee in a “5 start premium hotel” it’s shambolic.
Other little things to mention, such as waffles not freshly made like other hotels I go to, and I think that’s laziness. Been to my last three 5 star hotels and they are all making waffles from scratch, why can’t you? - boxes of packaged waffles, is lazy.
In the buffet, I don’t think it’s organised properly. Needs to be a clear gap in the glass to make orders with chefs, for things. It’s just glass shield all the way around and it hard to get their attention. Also, when you are holding your plate and wish to put hot food from the dishes it’s just awkward where to put the glass lids to be able to put your food on the plate as there isn’t room to put it anywhere.
Food quality isn’t the greatest either overall in the buffet. 5/10
Reserve lunch nibbles usually the same everyday. Always covered in lingering flies, very off putting. I expected servers to come take orders around the reserve pool for drinks, but they don’t. They do come around a couple times a day with a mojito, ice cream etc though.
I dont think there is enough staff also.
Its a 2-3 star at best, and I am used to many 5 star holidays. With the amount advertised per night (£450-£500) it was a disgrace.
Concierge service via WhatsApp was excellent in my request for booking restaurants and getting an iron. Very quick. Cleaners were great also.
I was thoroughly disappointed on my stay. The service was terrible
Thank you so much Mascalzone team (Nestor, Sara, Marcos, Nikki and Jesus for an amazing meal and also a special thanks to Vicky who was lovely with us and served us so well. We are loving our stay at Paradisus Hotel Gran Canaria . Thank you 💕 x
