We've stayed at the Hotel Don Miguel many times over the last few years.
We stayed here this time for 7 nights half board (breakfast and dinner, drinks not included)
We like the hotel, it has a good feel to it.
It's a very busy & often full occupancy hotel, which must be a great plus for Servatur Hotels & Resorts. We love the adults only concept. The cleanliness of the hotel everywhere is good. The food is always good and the staff are helpful and friendly (Patrick is very friendly)
Some of the guests staying here on this occasion were VERY loud. They just couldn't talk or engage in a conversation at a normal volume level. We have no problem at all with people having a laugh & a giggle (in this life & whilst on holiday, we're not party poopers) but they took it literally to another level completely, where it impacted upon other guests (with zero consideration & no self awareness)
Nice spacious rooms & bathrooms, although we would say the bathrooms in particular would now benefit from a renovation (The hotel is due to be fully renovated in 2027, which we believe is definitely due)
Overall a good hotel, great location and good food, lots of options at the buffet for a 3 star Hotel. The A la Carte Restaurant in the bar is a nice touch too if you're bored of the buffet (you can book this once during your stay)
Our main observation is that some areas of the hotel now require a renovation. Built in 1974 & acquired by Riu Hotels & Resorts in 1990, it was then partially renovated, followed by another partial Renovation in 2012. The hotel was then sold to Servatur Hotels & Resorts in 2021 The Hotel is now due a complete & full renovation in 2027. It's sadly becoming a little run down in some areas now.
We just hope they don't remove some of the amenities when it's refurbished, like the fridges in the rooms & the free safe.
We had a couple of problems in our room whilst we stayed here. The ceiling fan broke, as did the shower head & both were fixed & replaced straight away.
Here are my pointers both positive ✅️ & negative ❌️
Great ✅️
✅️ Clean throughout. ✅️ Great Housekeeping (Everything is always restocked & cleaned) ✅️ Large rooms ✅️ Comfortable beds ✅️ Great breakfast (proper back bacon!) ✅️ Good food selection ✅️ Good bar service and great drinks ✅️ Good Gym/Fitness centre ✅️ Good swimming pool...temperature good (Warm enough to swim comfortably) ✅️ Great location ✅️ Pool towels ✅️ Good WiFi ✅️ Great Air Conditioning ✅️ Lovely atmosphere throughout ✅️ A great 3 star rated option ✅️ Great value overall ✅️ Dining options of main Buffet & additional restaurant ✅️ Adults only ✅️ Safe in room included ✅️ Fridge in the room ✅️ Near the beach ✅️ By the shops ✅️ 'Pepa' the general manager is great, friendly & proactive
Needs improvement
❌️ Some balconies are crumbling/falling away & an area of the sunbathing area around the pool is blocked off ❌️ Bathrooms are Worn & old (see photos) ❌️ No toilets at the same level as the pool area ❌️ Requires a high wall built between the hotel & the road to screen out the road noise ❌️ Has a lot of wasted garden & grounds that are not utilised/used, including a whole level where shops used to be situated, lower down & facing the road
Top Tips... Bring a travel Iron and Travel Kettle if you require them. Book a superior pool view room.
We have been here 4 times (!!). Always satisfied. Now Servatur starts to look for new ways to earn extra money: ask for ice cubes (like to cool a bottle of champagne or to enjoy a drink on your balcony, YOU GET CHARGED for the ice!
Never been to a hotel in my home life where this basic service is not free. It was nice - but not gonna rebook Servatur Don Miguel again. It’s a question of principle!
After reading the reviews, I didn’t know what to expect. We are here now and I must say we’ve enjoyed everything while we’ve been here. Theres no sun bed dashes. You can get down to the pool at 11am and still find a bed.
I read previously about the food. I have got no complaints, there is something for everyone. I had some gorgeous smoked salmon with scrambled egg this morning. There is proper back bacon, omelettes, boiled eggs. I really don’t understand how people can complain. Everything has tasted fabulous. It is an adults only hotel, so there’s no children running about, not that i don’t like children, It’s what we chose because we’ve been to places where towels were on sun beds at ludicrous o’clock, kids screaming and shouting(which is what children do!) It is just nice here to have a kid free holiday. We did kids holidays when ours were little, but it’s our time now! The rooms are adequate and ours overlooks the pool. The beds are very comfortable, the pillows are excellent. The beds are made every day, the ladies work very hard. We are staying half board so we buy water and snacks from the supermarket opposite our hotel. There is a fridge in the room, large enough to put water and cans in. The entertainment is very good in the evening, but only last a couple of hours, by which time you are ready for bed. Across the road down near the shopping centre is like Narnia, you think there’s nothing going off, walk down pass the shopping sign post and this massive area is filled with loads of bars and restaurants, all lit up with fancy fairy lights! The area is well known for alternative entertainment, but there is something for everyone, absolutely blew us away ! fantastic 😂
We had a wonderful stay and l cannot understand how the reviews can be so bad compared with our experience!
We had a high room facing the pool it was spacious , quiet at night, cleaned thoroughly every day. Towels changed every day. We took our own kettle and an extension lead as by reading the reviews we knew it was needed. Apart from that the breakfast was really good, hot, lots of choices, constantly topped up and tables cleaned fast as people finished. Staff very helpful throughout the hotel. Plenty of sunbeds, nice background music, food and drinks reasonable price for a hotel. Pool all one depth and clean, not to cold. Free towels ,changed once for free during the week. Good position. Near Yumbo which is vibrant at night with bars and restaurants. 20 minutes downhill walk to lovely sandy beach lots of restaurants overlooking the sea. 4 euros for taxi (which are plentiful)back up the hill. Worth every penny in the heat. Loved our experience and would definitely stay again!
Second time going to this hotel and it's a very friendly, comfortable hotel. The staff are a credit to the place. Beds are comfy , AC is brilliant. We had half board and there was plenty of choice morning and night. There's entertainment if you like that . It's situated in a great place. The local beach is amazing and safe to leave your stuff on the beach and go for a swim. We've enjoyed it here and will probably go back another time.
