Well located in Puerto Banus, to the west of Marbella, the Occidental Puerto Banus occupies an ideal location within walking distance of some beautiful sandy beaches. Also close at hand are a great selection of shops, bar, boutiques and if your feeling lucky, the Marbella Casino.
This charming hotel is built in an Andalusian style, surrounded by sub tropical gardens, and offers an impressive range of facilities.
This hotel was almost perfect. Yes the noise from the A7 is constant but it really made no difference to our enjoyment or sleep! We originally booked as it was close to Marbella arena were we had tickets to see UB40 Google maps was wrong when it said it would rake 40 minutes to walk, as it’s really close and only a 10 minute walk under a tunnel. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. The room was massive with two double beds snd a walk in shower there was a safe, fridge and kettle. Only problem was that there was no late check out availably. Well done to everyone at the Occidental hotel
We arrived at the hotel after a very long and exhausting journey, made even more difficult by a significant flight delay. As this is advertised as a 5-star hotel, we expected a much more comfortable experience.
Unfortunately, the carpets in the corridors looked dirty, and there was an unpleasant smell in both the hallways and our room. I am allergic to the smell of fish, and having to walk past the fish restaurant every time we entered the hotel made the experience even more uncomfortable.
We requested a room change, and although the staff kindly accommodated our request, the new room was facing the main road. The constant noise from motorcycles and traffic continued throughout the night, making it impossible to get a good night’s sleep.
To make matters worse, during the room change, my husband accidentally left behind his brand-new perfume, which had never even been opened, in our first room. When we asked about it the following day, we were simply told that it could not be found. This was extremely disappointing and raised serious concerns about how lost belongings are handled.
In addition, I was surprised that the room did not provide bathrobes or slippers, which are basic amenities I would normally expect from a 5-star hotel.
My husband and I are no longer young, and after such a tiring journey, all we needed was a quiet and restful night. Sadly, our first night at the hotel was extremely disappointing, and we were unable to relax or sleep.
I hope the hotel will take these comments seriously and make improvements, as the current experience does not reflect the standards expected of a 5-star property.
Stayed in this hotel for a golfing trip with friends. The hotel sits very close to all amenities needed and surrounded by a lot of golf courses. The hotel is very clean and tidy and would definitely recommend or stay at again in the future.
We recently stayed at this hotel and found it to be clean, modern, good value for money and in a convenient location, just a five-minute walk from the harbour and restaurant area. The staff were friendly and professional.
Our room was spacious, with the bed configured as two singles plus a sofa bed. There was plenty of storage space, a mini fridge, kettle with drinks, sink area, dining table and chairs, and a balcony complete with a table and chairs. The big flatscreen TV offered a good selection of international channels, including the BBC. The bathroom was decent, with both rainfall and handheld shower options, good water pressure, plenty of hot water, lots of toiletries, and separate toilet and bidet facilities.
The hotel itself has some very good amenities. The gym had a good selection of equipment and cleaning products available for guests to use. It could be improved by ensuring readily available drinking water for guests. The pool area looked lovely, with lots of seating in both sunny and shaded spots, although we didn't use it as it was quite busy during our stay. Food and drink portions were generous, with free-poured measures at the bars. Breakfast was included and served buffet-style. While we have experienced better breakfast offerings elsewhere, there was a reasonable variety available.
The mix of guests, ranging from the classic "Brits abroad" stereotype to more discerning travellers, made for an interesting atmosphere.
Unfortunately, there were a couple drawbacks. Security in the room could have been better, as there was neither a spy hole nor a security chain on the door. The biggest issue, however, was the road noise. Although the air conditioning in our room worked efficiently, we would have preferred to have jad the balcony door open but that wasn't feasible due the constant traffic noise from the busy road outside (hotel is situated next to the motorway). This was particularly noticeable if the balcony door was open and could also be heard around the pool area. It wasn't a complete dealbreaker, but it certainly detracted from the sense of relaxation we look for on holiday.
Overall, this is a clean, well-equipped hotel with large rooms, good amenities and excellent staff, situated in a central location, all at a reasonable price. However, despite many positives, the road noise meant that for us the stay wasn't quite as relaxing as we'd hoped.
Would we stay again? Probably not – solely because of the traffic noise.
Excellent Hotel, perfect position to the Port and Beaches. We were located in Tower 1 first floor overlooking the pool. Breakfast was first class, so many choices. Stayed at this hotel a few times and will be returning.
