Costa Blanca

Nestled in a quiet area, at just a 10-minute drive from the centre of the resort, this hotel is the perfect place where to enjoy a truly restful vacation. Fans of the fairway will have access to two 18-hole golf courses, which have been designed by the famous Jack Nicklaus. Guests can also enjoy a friendly tennis match at the full size courts, use the paddle courts or practice on the multi-sports field. There is a pool area that features an enormous 2243 sq. m swimming pool, a smaller outdoor heated 200 sq. m one and a separate children's pool for the youngest guests. There is also a built-in beach with sun loungers and parasols for those who simply want to relax and enjoy the wonderful weather. For a little pampering guests can visit the wellness centre and treat themselves to the sauna, the water circuit with thermal baths or to any of the available beauty and relaxation procedures.

Nice hotel and swimming pools

I have just returned from a weeks all inclusive holiday here and i was impressed and it certainly exceeded my expectations. I was a little concerned beforehand as the reviews were somewhat mixed, however I really can't understand the bad ones. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The swimming pools were also great. The hotel never felt too busy and it was easy to find sunbeds. The bars were good and the drinks included in all inclusive were of pretty good quality (much better than other all inclusive I've been to). The food was also pretty good. There is an all inclusive buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner which was generally good although a bit "samey" over the week. Other all inclusive options were the Mexican beach cafe restaurant which did burgers, nacos, tacos, etc and this was really good quality. In addition there was an included ice cream parlour which was also great. There were also three ala carte restaurants - we had one meal included as part of our package and chose the Italian which was really good. We stayed in a family suite which was a perfect size for a family with 2 teens - a king room, twin room and a seperate lounge. The air con worked well and it was very clean. They could probably do with being renovated but not so much that it causes a problem. The staff were also very good and helpful. Some downsides - the hotel is showing signs of age and could do with some increased maintenance (but this doesn't spoil the stay). The WiFi signal was also patchy and didn't work in our room. They could do with some handgel in the buffets and also the restaurant would have an overwhelming smell of fried fish on occasions- perhaps investing in better extractor fans works be good. The area outside the hotel isn't particularly interesting but not a problem for us. In summary I was happy and felt it offered good value for money and the ground and swimming pools were really great. If you want an all inclusive holiday in the sun in a nice hotel I would recomend this place.

Disappointing experience for a 5-star hotel

We stayed for 7 nights in a Terrace Suite at Meliá Villaitana and overall the experience was disappointing.

Service levels were not what you would expect from a 5-star hotel — staff were not particularly attentive or customer-oriented. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and the room was not always cleaned to an acceptable standard.

The most serious issue occurred on our last night, when we returned to a strong sewage smell in the bathroom. We had to move rooms late in the evening (around 22:00), which was very inconvenient, especially with our 5-year-old child.

At check-out, the situation was not handled properly. We initially had difficulty getting a late check-out, and despite explaining everything, no real apology or compensation was offered.

Overall, the hotel does not currently meet 5-star expectations, mainly due to service quality and how issues are handled.

Incredibly disappointing

We were looking forward to a well earned break at a beautiful hotel, having stayed at previous Meliá properties the expectations were high but this fell seriously short.

The positives!

The Botanic buffet restaurant at the Level had some great food. Restaurant Lima was very good. A handful of staff have great service such as Ximo, Jeyson and Miguel, all from Papamambo.

The not so good!

We had booked an all inclusive premium room through Jet 2. On arrival after pulling your cases across cobbled paving you find reception closed and to go to the Level reception. We arrived there and were told, we don't have any premium rooms available, you have been upgraded to a junior suite. Great we thought, until we saw the room. Dark, dingy, grass bank infront of us, definitely not an upgrade. Back to reception wanting the room we had booked and paid for. We can show you two more junior suites, one with a sea view! Both were better, one with a large terrace - SO WHY WERE WE NOT SHOWN THESE WHEN WE FIRST CHECKED IN??

By the morning we needed to change rooms due to the smell, a drainage or sewer smell, not very pleasant.

We enquired about upgrading to the Level and were told that only the Royal Suite was available. We don't have all inclusive in the Level but you can keep it on this occasion. Great we had paid for this anyway! We would receive a phone call shortly to view the room. Waited and waited, went to reception - did no one call you? NO.

Room looks very large and spacious with two balconies, one with sun most of the day.

We paid the difference and took the room. Initial thoughts were wow, large lounge area, large bedroom, walk in wardrobe, separate toilet and large bathroom. Dig deeper and there are loads of issues. For a Royal Suite, their second best room, you would expect it to be faultless. Very, very dated not touched in the 20 years the hotel has been open. Door architrave falling off or buckling, lights hanging down, plug sockets not fitting properly, the terrace doors not closing fully and loose cord tiles on the balcony floor - actually dangerous.

When you then look further at the Level, the 5* part, it is also very run down. The pool surround flooring has a lot of missing stones, walls have food splatterings on them and when we turned up for breakfast the griddle at the omlete and egg station still had the residue from the previous night meat on it, it has not been cleaned properly.

The tables in the square were the entertainment was held, had but had the tables wiped in days. We used a wet wipe from the restaurant to wipe the table and it was black after.

Staff, other than those mentioned were not great in their service to down right rude not just to us but also other guests. Presently it is school holidays in Spain and the hotel was about 90% Spanish. The service is definitely better and quicker if you are Spanish.

The golf club attached to the hotel is an oasis, we went there on our third day to have a look and asked if we could have a drink. As we were all inclusive we could have any drink we wanted, WHY were we not told this when checking in. The service was excellent everytime we went, Lucia and Fillipe were a real credit to the complex, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble. A total contrast to the actual hotel and they were busy all day.

The Level - there are two Level lounges, one of reception and a family one by the pool. Shrug one had all the kids in. NOT the family one, this was empty the whole time. The lounge was a mess, not enough room at most times, food everywhere, the only alcohol available was beer, wine or Martini. There needs to be an adults only zone in the Level, especially in the restaurant. Restaurants do not open in the hotel until 8pm, which is fine for us but if you like to eat early, you can't.

OVERALL, this is not a hotel to rush and book. The buildings and grounds are good and make it look so special but it is run down, dirty, smelly, not great staff. It is very quiet in the winter with just golfers so it's a great time to do some upgrading but this won't happen.

TOP TIPS - if you have booked an inclusive and want to upgrade to the Level you can keep your all inclusive. Spend time with Lucia and Fillipe at the golf club, better service, great views and your all inclusive for drinks is covered there to!

Stayed at The Level during the first week of June. The service is excellent. The food is superb and my wife who is coeliac likes the way everything is labelled in the Botanic restaurant. My brother in law who is visiting from New Zealand claimed the food buffet is one of the best he has ever had. This is our third visit in 2 years and we are going back as a family of ten in August

Amazing hotel and staff

This place blew us away and was far more than we expected after reading the reviews. We just flew home after spending my 40th here playing a bit of golf and enjoying some great food and the complex is fantastic. We went 7 days all inclusive. We had a twin room the air conditioning was fine and the room looked nice and modern ( nothing amazing but you certainly couldn’t complain). I was so impressed by the food and the variety of places to eat. With the all inclusive we were able to eat and drink in the main buffet, the beach bar was a Mexican theme and the food was fantastic and even the golf club was on the all inclusive which was great as the food was lovely there and we didn’t have to worry about taking money out with us for drinks on our round. We had evening entertainment every night except one which was always live local singers / bands and was actually really good compared to a lot of hotels I’ve stayed. We also ate out in the Italian restaurant and the meditation restaurant and just had to pay a small supplement for the food but the drinks were still included.

But the best thing we found was the staff from reception to the cleaners?bar staff, waiters, golf club staff they couldn’t have been more helpful and all had a laugh. Soo please don’t worry about the reviews this place was fantastic And I definitely will be back.
