So isn't it wonderful that hotels like the Vidamar Resorts Madeira manage to maintain such impossibly high standards? One might think it would be impossible to match those views, or that staying in any hotel would feel like shutting yourself from all the beauty out there. That's certainly not the case at the Vidamar Resorts Madeira.

This is a light, airy and open hotel and totally given over to your comfort. Rooms are truly luxurious and have private bathrooms, as well as fabulous balconies overlooking the gardens and the ocean. Featuring cable TV, phone, refrigerator and more, you'll have all the facilities you need.

You can choose from a superb indoor pool and a dazzling array of three outdoor pools, as well as the amazing Mar Sea Spa Thalasso facility. ⭐️A stay that will stay in our memories

Sadly, our holiday at VidaMar Resort Hotel Madeira is already coming to an end, and we would like to say a heartfelt thank you for such a wonderful stay.

What made our experience truly special was not only the hotel itself, but above all the people who took care of us during our stay.

A very special thank you goes to Valter Morgado, who was incredibly kind and helpful even before our arrival. As we were travelling with our baby and my husband had to work online during several days of our stay, he personally made sure that everything was arranged as smoothly and comfortably as possible for us. We truly appreciated his support and attention.

And then there is Tatiana – for us, she is definitely a real asset to the hotel. Especially for Russian-speaking guests, she is a wonderful person to have around. It is not often that you meet someone who does their job with so much warmth and genuine passion. Tatiana was always friendly, helpful and full of great tips and recommendations. You could really feel that she genuinely cares about the guests and wants them to have a great experience.

We also felt very welcomed and well looked after as a family of four. As we were travelling with our baby and our 15-year-old son, we were especially grateful for the upgrade to a family room. Having a little more space and privacy was a wonderful surprise – and our teenage son was particularly happy to have his own space.

It was certainly not something we took for granted, and we truly appreciated that our needs as a family were taken into consideration. It made our stay even more comfortable and enjoyable.

In the end, it is these little things – and especially the people – that make the difference between simply having a nice holiday and leaving with a truly special feeling.

We will definitely recommend VidaMar to others, and we can very well imagine coming back ourselves.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the entire team – and especially to Valter and Tatiana – for such a wonderful time and your warm hospitality. 🔆💛

Beautiful views but disappointing for families not a true 5‑star experience

I don’t often write reviews, but because I rely heavily on them when choosing hotels and because I was genuinely surprised after reading so many positive comments. I felt this one was necessary. We have just returned yesterday (21 Aug) from a 9‑night stay as a family of four (children aged 6 and 9).

While the hotel looks impressive from the outside and has a great location, it fell short in several important areas for a family stay.

The positives: The views from our room were genuinely beautiful and breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The dive centre on site was excellent the staff were kind, helpful and made sea access easy. Lunch at the pool bar was also consistently good. On my husband’s birthday, the hotel left a bottle of fizz and a cake in our room, which was a really thoughtful touch and very much appreciated.

However, the hotel didn’t meet 5‑star expectations.

The room was advertised as suitable for 2 adults, 2 kids , but the reality was very different. The only sleeping option for the children was a small sofa bed, which was extremely uncomfortable for two kids over a 9‑night stay. Both children complained every night, and we ended up having one of them sleep with us. This should have been made much clearer in the room description when booking.

The room itself felt tired and in need of updating. The bathroom was old, with mould in the seal, and we noticed cobwebs in the room. Storage was very limited, we had to live out of our suitcases for the entire stay because the wardrobes were small and impractical for a family of four.

The evening buffet was very hit and miss. As a vegetarian, on one night there were literally no hot options other than a bit of cous cous and vegetable soup - very disappointing for a hotel claiming 5 stars.

The journey down to the swimming pools was a daily challenge with children, two lifts and a long walk each time. Despite the hotel having lots of empty space, the only entertainment was a short set in a sleepy bar, and there was no atmosphere at all. There was also no app or clear guidance about entertainment or activities, and restaurant bookings had to be made through reception, which felt outdated and inconvenient.

The kids’ club was practically non‑existent. It was either closed or had nothing happening, despite being advertised as a key facility. Mosquitoes were also a real issue, we were all bitten badly, and there was no mosquito netting or curtain in the room.

Overall, Vidamar didn’t feel like a 5‑star hotel more like a 3‑star with a great view. It felt more like a business hotel than a family resort. After nine nights, we were all looking forward to going home to sleep in our own comfortable beds, which is never a good sign!

We won’t be staying again.

Not a 5 star, just ok

We stayed in a family.room, 2 bedrooms, one super king and one twin room. Huge space, can't fault the size of the room. Great view from the balcony out to sea. Lighting in the room is terrible, main room has overhead spot lights over only half, plus 2 bedside lights. Useless once it gets dark and you need to find things. Twin room has no overhead lights, just 2 wall lights. Again, useless. Main room has no drawers, just half a wardrobe and a cupboard.

Severe lack of plug sockets, even the cleaner had trouble finding one for her vacuum. Large bathroom, very powerful shower. Plentiful towels, flannels

Beds and pillows comfy, didn't find them too hard at all

Buffet was.just OK. Breakfast omelette was fab, as were the cooked to order eggs. Kids liked the pastries and we all loved the plentiful fuit and salads. Fresh cooked chicken breast and beef skewers were great. But otherwise the buffet was just ok. Would have liked more traditional local options

Half board resteraunts were so worth doing. Portugese and sushi amazing. Italian - not so nice. Beach restaurant also lovely and very reasonably priced.

Pools great, no issue with sun beds and life guards watching. Are all salt water and can feel a little.chilly at times.

No hotel entertainment aside from a singer in the bar. Very little info about the hotel, amenities, where to find stuff. Laundry (self service) available but costs 10 euro, dryer is free. Pool tables

Hotel is easy walk to town or lido but we used bolt/uber if too hot or tired. Agree very stark hotel, looking very tired and not very welcoming. Didn't feel 5 star so will choose to stay elsewhere on our next visit

Great location

Located in a perfect spot with direct access to the sea and a 20-30min walk from most highlights

Decor is modern and very corporate like - enough tourists during peak season to keep it afloat as well as catering for wedding receptions But the set up is definitely catered more towards the corporate conference facility which I can imagine is where they make up their off peak revenue

Nonetheless it was a great stay, even as a family (felt there could’ve been more to entertain kids - there was never anything happening at their Kids Aquatica section)

Took a while getting used to the saltwater outdoor pools, but was good that you could use their indoor non-salt water pool as a change Plenty of sunbeds the whole time, so none of that towels on at 6am malarkey here

Didn’t try their restaurants, but breakfast buffet was OK, expected better for dinner - so only tried that the once Our son has a nut allergy and so was unfortunately restricted by choices for his dessert on the evening we tried their buffet dinner

Staff were generally friendly and helpful Rooms were spacious and clean with a great sea view from the balcony

Would we return? Yeah….why not

A wonderful stay

We had a really lovely stay at the VidaMar in Funchal and would definitely recommend it.

The staff were all so friendly, helpful and professional, which made us feel very welcome from the start.

We were particularly impressed with the food. We ate at both the Ocean Restaurant and the Pizzeria and everything we had was delicious. I’m gluten-free, so I was really pleased with how well catered for I was. There was plenty of choice and the staff were very helpful and understanding about my dietary requirements.

The hotel itself has some great facilities. We really enjoyed having the choice of indoor and outdoor pools, and there were plenty of sun beds, so we never had any trouble finding somewhere to relax. The spa and pool tables were also great additions. Overall, the hotel had a lovely warm and relaxed feel to it.

We were also happy with the location. We didn’t mind walking into Funchal, which took around 30–40 minutes. The walk back took a little longer as there’s a small hill to climb, but it was absolutely fine and we enjoyed the walk.

All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and really enjoyed our time at the VidaMar. Great staff, lovely food, excellent facilities and a very relaxing atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for making our stay in Madeira very memorable.
