The hotel is located in the best area of Funchal, situated roughly 500 m away from the sea and the saltwater swimming pool, Lido, and around 2 kms the centre. The nearest shops, bars and restaurants are around 10 minutes away on foot. The airport is located within 22 kms. This apartment hotel was renovated in 2008 and comprises a total of 43 guestrooms. The tasteful, modern studios and apartments all come with an en suite bathroom, a kitchenette with a microwave, a fridge, a 2 plate electric stove, kettle, cutlery and crockery. In addition, individually adjustable air conditioning and a balcony are also provided in all accommodation as standard. The roof of the building features a heated swimming pool and a roof terrace with sun loungers with covers, parasols and a beautiful sea view. The hotel grounds feature a sauna and a hot tub.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I have given this Suite Hotel 5 stars. We booked a budget friendly break to Madeira and it was one of the cheapest available. We were not disappointed. First I want to mention the hospitality from the staff and front desk. We were warmly welcomed by Renato with a glass of wine and he did everything possible to help us during our stay finding out all the information. If he didn't find it out then he would call us later. Mr Roberto and Fatima were wonderful in the breakfast room, there was a buffet but some items were cooked to order from a menu ( omelette and crepes). Fantastic local produce on offer, passionfruit banana, orange tomato, melon, salmon, mackerel, yogurts, pasteis da nata ( egg tarts). It was really wonderful and staff were so attentive to us. we got a breakfast bag on the last morning that would be enough to feed an army. Thank you so much guys. After reading the reviews we asked for a quiet room and the room layout was great, spacious so clean thanks to our wonderful cleaner Raquel, plenty of towels, beach towels for pool also provided. Small kitchen and microwave. Security box provided at no extra cost. The rooftop pool with jacuzzi and solarium was lovely and I loved the early afternoon period when there was no one there, it become busy with people coming in from hikes after 4. Loads of nationalities, British Isles and Eire, German, Finnish, Italians, a very nice mix with absolutely no trouble and no sunbed wars. Location wise very good, on the outskirts of the old town, 25 mins walk to Cathedral. Bus 1 and 2 go past at end of the road ( 2 euro and 5 cent for ticket). You can also walk to Lido area which is nice and picturesque. We were budget travellers so we ate in Portuguese restaurants like Pao de Lo in town and Baracuda beside Pingo Doce supermarket (- beautiful prawns, cuttle fish and so reasonable with great service). Tip: book the front 2 seats for a romantic view! The Pingo Doce is a 5-10 min walk and great for stocking up on fruit, bread, cheeses. There is a restaurant beside the hotel that has parrots! We booked some tours from Madeira 4 U tours on the right as you walk into town, very reasonable and Joanna in there will advise you on all that is available. We used a Bolt transfer from airport as airport bus wasn't running at that time. Approx 21 euro My only suggestion was that rooms should have a coffee machine but that is because I am an absolute coffee addict! I would absolutely recommend this hotel, clean, comfy, friendly and great value for money. I would also like to say hello to the staff and my Finnish friends that I met when I was there!
Nice little hotel, very clean, great breakfast and location. Cute roof top pool. Would have rated it 4 stars but we had no air conditioning Our whole stay. The AC was not working and our room was very hot to sleep.
Lovely hotel in a side street in the Lido area of Funchal. Friendly and welcoming staff throughout our stay. Very clean and rooms cleaned everyday. Room we had was a good size and had everything we needed. A quiet hotel with a superb roof top pool deck which was never very busy. Loved the 'honesty bar' albeit limited to beer and ice cream! We had breakfast included - a good spread (pretty much the same everyday) but buffet style and some items cooked to order. The only downside (and that's why it scores 4) is the road noise (even though it's a side street, a lot of traffic seemed too use it!. Would certainly stay here again on a future visit to the island.
This is our first time in Madeira. We have been here for a week. This hotel is perfect and very reasonably priced. On arrival late at night, we were welcomed with a glass of Madeira wine and reception staff were lovely. The room is spacious, very clean and a well equipped kitchenette. Air con worked. In a great location, not up a steep hill and closes to bus routes, bars and restaurants. The best feature is the roof top pool which is never packed and the guests are mostly couples so is quiet and relaxed. We had breakfast included, it was good and you could order from a menu on request at no extra charge. All the staff were polite and hard working. One of the nicest small hotels I have ever stayed in.
Situated a short bus ride or a 30mins walk, we stayed in a lovely studio apartment with loads of space. Bathroom was big and the room was spotlessly clean, as was the whole hotel. Beds were comfortable and it was really quiet at night. The rooftop pool area was immaculate and a lovely space to relax. Lots of places to eat nearby and also lots of little supermarkets for essentials. We’d definitely return to Terrace Mar.
