- Pousada Convento de Tavira

This excellent and luxurious “pousada” sits in a historical and interesting building that was erected on the sixteenth century and served as a convent. The property is conveniently positioned in the historical city centre, within easy reach from the main important sightseeing points of interest such as Santa Maria Church, a few steps away. Staying at this accommodation option will always be a great experience, as some of the bedrooms have been completely refurbished from cells, exuding a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. All of them offer modern amenities for a truly pleasant stay, including air-conditioning, wireless Internet connection to keep updated and a safe. During their stay, visitors may pamper themselves at the on-site facilities, with the possibility to rest at the spa with a massage and to taste mouth-watering local dishes of the Algarve region made with fresh produce.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Beautiful residence in quiet area in the middle of the charming city of Tavira. Very friendly and helpful personnel everywhere from the reception to the bar and restaurant. The museeum sorroundings give it an ekstra touch of atmosphere. We travelled with our grown up kids and stayed one week. We had two superior rooms with a beautiful view of the city from our balcony’s. We would definitely choose to stay here again next time in Tavira
My husband and I stayed here for five nights in June, we really wished it could have been longer.
This is a superb hotel. We had such a lovely room overlooking the gardens outside of the hotel. The room was spacious and clean with a lovely bathroom.
The food, both at breakfast and dinner was fantastic. We particularly liked the breakfasts, where there was such a great variety of meat, cheese, pastries and fruit. The hot food was kept hot in replica Le Creuset casseroles, not like in other hotels where it is under heat lamps which just don't work.
The swimming pool was so lovely with ample sun beds and shades.
The only criticism we had is that the hotel needed more staff at the bar, as it was very difficult to find anyone to serve us on several occasions, otherwise the staff were all very helpful and polite.
We shall endeavour to come back next year.
We do hope the archaeological dig will have been completed by then, so that we can enjoy the courtyard to its full extent.
Peaceful, quiet, adorably manicured gardens and breathtaking city views from the windows. Delicious food at the restaurant and bar, and a caring staff to top the whole experience.
This is a simply wonderful property to stay in! The location is perfect for exploring Tavira. It is situated in a quiet spot above the town with lovely views and is very well situated relative to the airport. Just 30 mins away. We only stayed a weekend, so didn’t venture much further, but still had a great time. The property is stunning. It has been very sensitively restored, retaining original features yet also feeling modern and fresh. You get a true sense of the history while also feeling as though you’re staying in a contemporary space. We loved the museum beneath the hotel itself, showing the remains of ancient dwellings and streets, as well as the beautifully preserved chapel as you enter the hotel. A highly unique property that we will never forget and hope to return to. We stayed in the Special Suite and highly recommend it - extremely spacious - so lovely to relax in, although the space in the hotel such as the bar area are also very pleasant to relax in if you don’t have a seating area in your room. We ate in the hotel one evening and the food was very good. Most of all though we would like to mention the amazing team who run the hotel. Everyone we interacted with were extremely helpful, engaging and also passionate about the hotel, sharing information about the history of the building as well as recommendations in the local area. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!
We had a 7 night stay in the Pousada Convento Tavira, from arrival until we left all staff were friendly and helpful. The Pousada is a lovely historic building in a Central and quiet location, it has a great pool with plenty of sun loungers and open space to relax. There is a lot of choice for breakfast and Elton and his team make sure that you are well looked after. We would certainly recommend a stay here.
