Pestana Dom Joao II Hotel and Beach Resort

Lovely hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Reception area, Lou ge and dining areas are very nice and comfortable. Bedrooms are slightly dated but clean and comfortable. Corridors a bit dark.

Outside is clean and well equipped. Plenty of sun loungers either on the grass or by the pools. Access to the beach is easy. There is a poolside refreshment hut and a further ocean side one. Both using the same menu.

Highly recommend

The town of Alvor is a 15 to 20 minute walk With plenty of restaurants and the usual touristy shops.

I stayed during the month of June with my family and checked in and out with João Cunha, the night auditor. He was attentive, offered helpful advice, and was always available to ensure our stay was wonderful. Thank you for your kindness and wise guidance.

Familiy of 5, with 3 teenages we are just back from a 10 day stay here. enjoyed the hotel, staff are friendly, and the hotel is clean. The cleaners do a good job of cleaning the rooms each day. lovely pool and not too hard to get a sun bed even though the hoggers grab the best beds with their towels very early. the pool area and garden very nice, and we enjoyed the table tennis, giant chess and gym facilities. breakfast was decent, we stayed for dinner 1 night and it was just ok, im glad we didnt do half board.. Location is excellent, right on the beach front with a 15 min walk into the main part of Alvor. 2 negatives; first, the evening entertainment was not good and the second is one that has put me off returning. Every purchase at the pool bar incurred a 10% service charge, even though it was a "suggested charge" it was automatically added before producing the bill and card machine - making it akward to challange. this would happen for takaway orders, and even when my son would get his own ice cream and take it to bar to pay. i thought this was very cheeky. I dont mind tipping but I would like to decide when and where appropriate.
