Stunning hotel with fantastic rooms but let down by location
The deduction of a star is purely down to the location - as stated in my title. The beach "on-site" is awful and not worth going to. There is a gorgeous beach a 20 minute walk away so we did this every day with our teens. However, it's not a pleasant walk and is on a main road with several crossings, so this wouldn't be suitable for families with younger children. You could get Bolt (like an Uber) though, and these are very reasonable and have good availability.
We ate in the immediate area one night during our week and the restaurant was nice but then there's nowhere to go after that. We therefore got a Bolt into Albufeira "old-town" every night (which costs between 5-10 euros each way). My teenagers loved this but it's definitely not an area I'd wish to visit again.
Now for the positives!! The hotel is beautiful - the grounds are spotless, well laid out and the pool areas have sunbeds ANY time of the day. You don't feel on top of each other and there's pool bars at both. You can also help yourself to water - love this.
We didn't actually eat in the restaurant as we booked self-catering and our 2 bedroom apartment in the residences was like a villa. It is the best room we've ever stayed in and perfect for our older family. Two proper bedrooms - two gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulous kitchen/diner/living area. The hotel also placed a bed in the living area for us, which is great when we have an 18 year old boy and a 15 year old girl. The patio area was lovely too. We weren't lucky enough to have a sea-view but I enjoyed my breakfast on here every morning and my son enjoyed being able to complete his morning exercises in the garden area. It had a really private feel to it - perfect.
The staff we encountered were very pleasant and my husband and I enjoyed a drink in one of the bar areas every evening whilst waiting for our kids. The cocktail waitress made the perfect Hugo Spritz - highly recommend!
I wouldn't stay here again, purely due to the location, but if you're just wanting a very chilled break in the sun and happy to stay in the hotel (and don't like the beach) then look no further!

Beautiful stay
Stunning hotel, lovely walk through beautiful grounds with well manicured gardens lead to beach. Stayed in a very clean spacious superior king room overlooking the pool. Breakfast varied and excellent quality.
Lovely meal in Market Kitchen.
Only negative was Paper moon restaurant, though a lovely setting the food was poor and slow service.
Throughout the hotel the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.
All in all a wonderful treat.

Loved the W! This property is absolutely beautiful and immaculate. The staff was so nice. This was our first stop on a 3 week adventure, and it was the best place to recover from travel, get acclimated to Portugal and just take in the beauty of this part of the country. I would 100% book again. I loved this hotel and the grounds.

Can't recommend highly enough
We can't praise the W hotel enough; we were due to fly to Sicily but our holiday was cancelled the evening before because of Mount Etna volcanic ash eruptions and friends had stayed at the W hotel over the Summer and had recommended it. The bedrooms are spacious with large super king very comfortable beds along with a great bathroom and dressing area. There is a mini bar fridge and Nespresso machine in the lounge area. The service in every area of the hotel is outstanding and all the staff can't do enough to help you. Breakfast is a real highlight with a fantastic buffet and an a la carte option. We ate in Paper Moon twice and the food was great and there are lots of great local restaurants within walking distance. Overall we would highly recommend the W Hotel and we will definitely be returning one day.
