Vila Gale Cerro Alagoa

Spent a very enjoyable week from the end of May at this hotel with my wife . The hotel is really nice. Worthy of the 4* rating. Our room, 440, Was on the fourth floor and had everything we wanted. I requested a pool view and that was excellent. Everything in the room worked fine. The main things for us were the air-conditioning and shower and they all worked well. I’ve read a few reports on here of some beds being really uncomfortable, ours, two single beds pushed together, were perfectly comfortable. I’ve also read reports people commenting on how the decor is dated. Well my wife did slightly agree with this but, for me, everything was clean and worked and we were very comfortable. One thing we do like is a kettle in the room and, whilst initially we only had a coffee machine, a quick request to Reception and very quickly we had our kettle. In fact our room had an unexpected bonus in the form of a small kitchenette so we could have cooked had we chosen. (We didnt). The bathroom was fine. The shower worked and the only improvement here might have been a walk-in shower. A complimentary bottle of water was left just for day one. There was a good size TV in the room but the only English channel was BBC News. I'm sure nobody goes abroad to watch TV but we like to have it on whilst getting ready for breakfast/dinner so it was disappointing to not have at least the basic English channels (BBC1 and ITV). The Hotel is very well situated with an array of shops and restaurants just a few minutes outside from the front of the hotel. There were fast food restaurants including McDonald’s, KFC, Burger King, and Pizza Hut but we didn’t actually visit any of these because we were half board and ate in the hotel every evening. The Beach is about a 10 minute downhill walk away but obviously less fun walking back up the hill. We only went there after dinner one evening and it was very busy with people. More restaurants there too. There is a well stocked games room with a fussball table, a pool table and a snooker table amongst other things. Food. I always find commenting on the food a tricky subject. It does seem to us that the choice of available food seems to be reducing in the hotels that we have visited, over the past nine years. I would have to say that the selection at this hotel was good but not great. We have found more choice in a few hotels but, having said that, there was always something to eat and the thought of eating outside of the hotel was never a likely possibility. There was one live cooking station which in the mornings for breakfast would do omelettes and in the evening it was a pasta type bar one side and meats or fish the other. All were nice. In the dining room there was quite a reasonable sized seated section separated for an à la cart area but, in the week when we stayed, we only saw two people, eating in there for that entire week. As a suggestion, maybe the hotel could better use this space for a bigger selection of food. For instance many hotels we have stayed at do themed dining evenings eg Mexican or Chinese etc. Having slightly criticised the amount of choice of food available I have to balance that by saying that the quality of the food was excellent. The waiting staff were very good, very attentive and swift to clear your finish plates of food. Lifts. As stated, we were on the fourth floor, so we regularly used the lifts of which there were three and all three worked all week without fail. One small recommendation to the hotel would be that it might be nice to have, on the walls opposite the lift doors, the number of the floor that you have arrived on. The floor number is on a display inside the lift but sometimes it wasn’t always very visible and I certainly wasn’t the only one to get out at the wrong floor, so having the number of the floor visible as you exit the lift might be helpful to some. Swimming and sunbathing. There were never any problems getting sunbeds for the entire week that we stayed. The area surrounding the pool and sunbeds we found to be clean and tidy. The swimming pool was really nice. I do try and choose a nice big pool and this was pretty much perfect. The water was never too deep anywhere in the pool. I think no deeper than about 5 feet at any point. T`he water was cold initially but within two or three seconds instantly became refreshing in the hot sun. There was a lifeguard station but I can’t say we ever actually saw a lifeguard. There was aqua aerobics happening at one end of the pool most, if not all, days. There is a poolside café which did hot food and drinks and ice creams. A few minutes walk up the road from the front of the hotel were 2 large supermarkets, one was so big it was on 2 floors. There was also a very nice cake shop next to the hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We cannot comment on the Entertainment as its not our thing. Overall, a very nice stay and we would definitely recommend this hotel without hesitation.

The hotel is very well located, with lovely pool and lovely infrastructure! The animation girl Paula and Carol are a walking joy! They cheer up the crowd and bring a great energy to the guests! It’s a big a shame the shows now are all inside, if they were outside more people would join in! The staff from the bar and from the restaurant are terrible, excluding one or two that are very nice and helpful, in terms of service they leave a lot to be desired! And when their boss arrives… things get even worst! She starts shouting at them in the middle of the guests! It’s very unpleasant when you’re trying to enjoy your meal at peace! The guys from the bar should also learn to leave the safety of the counter and do some table service or at least clean a bit of the tables outside… they’re not that busy, they are just a bit lazy!

Michelle was amazing she found every note and worked hard on it if any of could go again before the end of my holiday please go to the spot the beginning you will feel so much better thank you again to Michelle 5stars
