Surrounded by large green spaces, the hotel overlooks one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the Falésia beach in the Algarve. The spacious rooms have private balconies and a warm, contemporary décor. The gastronomic offer is diversified, with a buffet restaurant in 'food market' concept and a Brasserie restaurant, next to the outdoor pool. The hotel has 4 swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), spa, gym and tennis court. Located near natural attractions and golf courses, PortoBay Blue Ocean shares restaurants and bars with PortoBay Falésia just next door. Both hotels connect through the outdoor gardens in a pleasant walk.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We’ve just returned from a fantastic family holiday at PortoBay Blue Ocean, and I genuinely can’t recommend this hotel highly enough.
From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The rooms are spacious, modern, beautifully designed and immaculately clean. Housekeeping did a superb job every day, and the beds deserve a special mention—they are quite honestly the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in!
The facilities are excellent, with a lovely pool area and a fantastic spa, making it just as easy to relax as it is to keep the family entertained. The location is also ideal, with Olhos de Água within walking distance.
The food was outstanding throughout our stay. The buffet breakfast and dinner offered an incredible variety of fresh, high-quality dishes, with different themed evenings that kept every meal interesting.
A real highlight was Flor de Sal. If you eat there, don’t miss the Brothy Rice with Algarve Shellfish and Coastal Fish for Two—it was absolutely delicious and one of the best meals we had on holiday. We also loved Il Basilico at the neighbouring sister hotel, which you reach via the lovely wooden bridge. The Italian food there was equally superb.
What really made the hotel stand out, though, was the staff. Every single member of the team was warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly. The service throughout our stay was impeccable.
It’s honestly difficult to find anything negative to say. If I had to mention one small point, it’s that the most direct walking route into Olhos de Água involves a hill, so it may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. However, this was a very minor consideration and certainly didn’t detract from our holiday.
Overall, PortoBay Blue Ocean is one of the best hotels we’ve stayed in as a family. Beautiful accommodation, exceptional food, wonderful staff and a relaxing atmosphere—we wouldn’t hesitate to return and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting the Algarve.
It was definitely the best hotel for my wife and me. Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived until we left.
This is a very modern, tastefully designed resort that's recently been refurbished including the addition of lovely adults only terrace infinity pool with a stunning view of the sea. The sun beds at the adults only pool are much more comfortable and luxurious and felt more like a 5-star resort experience compared to the main pool area, which was very busy and chairs not as comfortable. It's often hard to secure the luxury beds in adults only unless you're a direct ocean view room, and people left belongings/towels to secure a spot. It took us checking from time to time and grabbing one when it became available.
The food at their a la carte restaurant, Fler de Sel, was very good. The buffet and pool bar/ food was average and overpriced but had a lot of options.
Rooms are comfortable, spacious, and well cleaned. There is plenty of storage and the room is thoughtfully designed for modern travel (eg USB C plugs by the bed).
The fitness facilities were high quality but gym was often busy, there were limited options outside cardio machines. A helpful tip - there is a water cooler in the gym you can use to refill bottles, as the hotel does not provide any free water bottles. Overall, a good stay, and one we would return to.
Absolutely lovely hotel. Breakfast is great as is the food in the snack bar and restaurant. The hotel is in walking distance to the beach, some shops and restaurants. Would highly recommend the Manzo Steakhouse in Olhos de Agua, it’s outstanding! Watch when walking to the beach, take the path within the Hotel not the path from the pavement outside the Hotel. Hotel is very very clean in every area, as well as rooms are lovely and modern. Highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a quieter holiday.
This is a truly lovely hotel. It’s also probably the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Came here with my 20 year old daughter for a week and loved it. We had a sea view room (I’d recommend doing the upgrade for this) large room with balcony and totally spotless. Staff are incredibly friendly. Pools are great with plenty of sun loungers - we hung out by the adults pool most of the time. The beach is a five / ten min walk and beautiful. The village next door has some lovely restaurants and bars along with a small but equally nice beach. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
