- Ondamar Hotel

Located just a short walk from the centre of the popular holiday resort of Albufeira on the Algarve Coast, this apart hotel is within easy reach of restaurants, bars, pubs and shops. The famous Praia do Forte Beach can be reached within a 10-minute walk, Aveiros Beach, Oura Beach and Fisherman's beach are close by. The international airport of Faro is at a distance of 35 km.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
I would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to be very careful, particularly when it comes to the deposit.
My friends and I were charged €900 from our deposit, which was supposedly due to noise complaints. We were made to sign a contract when checking in, but the terms regarding noise and the possibility of losing the deposit were not clearly explained to us. We were completely unaware that complaints about noise could result in the entire deposit being withheld.
We left the rooms spotless, with absolutely nothing broken, damaged or missing. We also do not believe we were being excessively or unreasonably loud. Despite this, the hotel refused to return any of our €900 deposit and seemed determined to use the noise complaints as justification for keeping it.
The handling of the situation by the staff was extremely disappointing. We found the majority of the staff to be unhelpful and unprofessional, and there was very little willingness to properly discuss or resolve the issue. The only positive experience we had was with the spa staff, who were lovely and professional.
Overall, we felt that we were treated unfairly and that the deposit was withheld without adequate explanation or transparency. Losing €900 over a situation we feel was completely disproportionate has left a very bitter impression of our stay.
I would not stay here again and would recommend that anyone booking make sure they fully understand every term relating to the deposit before signing anything. This hotel is not appropriate for anyone who is good craic!! Craic police on patrol 24/7
Just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. I’ve stayed many times but I do think that this year things had slipped. My main negative points are the house keeping . This was a real issue this year. The only time our room was properly cleaned was the day before we were leaving . All other days I had to go to reception and ask them to ask the cleaner to come and do our room. Floors were not swept, beds not made and bins not emptied. Reception staff were friendly enough but you shouldn’t have to ask reception every day to for your room to be cleaned. They always offered you clean towels and toilet tissue. The first night we were there all the electrics blew and we had to use the light on own phone to see. The telephone didn’t work all week even though we reported it in the first night , wouldn’t usually be a problem but we had to keep going to reception to report issues. There was never a problem with getting a sunbed as there were plenty of them. The food from the snack bar was ok and staff friendly. Yes there were groups of makes and female but they were no problem, kept themselves to themselves. No noise at night other than hearing a few returning to their rooms.
I would probably give this hotel another go as it really was just the house keeping that let it down this year.
Overall, Ondamar was a nice place to stay and we had no major complaints. The hotel and reception area were clean and were regularly being cleaned throughout our stay. Our room was also kept clean, with housekeeping coming around every other day, which was perfectly fine for us.
The staff at reception were friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything.
It’s not a luxury hotel, but I think the price reflects that. For what we paid, the standard of the accommodation and overall experience was fair. If you’re looking for somewhere clean, friendly and reasonably priced without expecting anything too fancy, Ondamar does the job well.
Overall, a pleasant stay and good value for the price.
Personally I thought the pool was very unhygienic and unclean, with debris everywhere alongside the pool and black stuff floating in the water. As well as no lifeguard seen anywhere. The security was very unhelpful, constantly speaking /shouting at us in Portuguese, being very intimidating and rude as I nor none of my friends can understand Portuguese. We all had a terrible experience with this hotel and do not advise a group of girls to stay here.
We arrived at the hotel, and the 2 staff working at the time were too busy telling us about the fines we would recieve for making noise past 10.30,removing towels from room, failing to return pool towels ect.....they failed to welcome us and give us a run down of the hotel, facilities ect.they also failed to tell us,or our holiday agent that their is no bar in the hotel, only pool bar which closes at 7,no resteraunt on site, the location of pool not explained,no lifeguard on duty,....told us that only 1 of our 2 apartments were booked, then sent half of our group to a different floor,on arrival at apartment found no chairs at kitchen table,no chairs on balcony, fridge open with dirty wet towel and basin inside....1 toilet roll for 4 people,it was clear to see this apartment was not prepared for visitors. When we highlighted this, thank god staff had changed and the man on desk was very helpful, chairs were put in room but for continuation of our stay our room was not serviced or toilet rolls replaced. We all showered at 6 in evening, but there was no hot.water after first person showered.....if it wasn't for the fact that I had the great company of my sisters and nieces, and if I had booked the holiday myself,I would have left straight away.....best suited to teenagers and young people who just need bed for the night
