The Qawra Palace Resort and Spa is well-positioned on the Qawra seafront with views of the bay, providing a comfortable and convenient setting and offers panoramic views of Salina Bay and the ancient salt pans from which it gets its name. A friendly hotel which has been popular with our guests for many years is ideal for a relaxing holiday. Situated on the attractive promenade, shops, bars and restaurants can be found in the immediate area and it is also within easy reach of Bugibba with its further selection of entertainment.
Qawra Palace is a beautiful hotel in a great location, just a short walk from Bugibba. We were warmly welcomed, congratulated on our honeymoon and even received a free room upgrade.
Our room was spacious with a huge terrace, waterfall shower and very comfortable beds. The pools were all great, especially the rooftop and seafront areas, and despite never reserving sunbeds early, we always found two.
The food was varied and tasty every day, although a decent curry would have made it even better! The only slight downside was the confusing layout—we managed to get lost after the evening entertainment (probably our own fault!).
Our room was cleaned everyday, with fresh towels even though we did hang them up so we would reuse, but they were always on the ball and friendly, infact all staff we came across were friendly and helpful
Check-in and check-out were both quick and easy. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return.
We have just returned from a 10-night all-inclusive stay and, unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing holidays we have experienced.
The hotel was heavily overcrowded throughout our stay. The pool area was packed from morning until evening, with sunbeds crammed together and very little personal space. The rooftop bar was unbearable as the loud Bluetooth speakers pump away all the time and the tables to sit have zero shade and no parasols. Truly awful.
The lifts were completely inadequate for the size of the hotel. It was common to wait around six minutes or more for a lift, only for it to arrive already full. The layout is like a maze or Escape Room that you can't find a way out.
The main restaurant felt more like a busy college refectory than a 4-star hotel dining experience. Tables and chairs were squeezed together, making it difficult to move around safely. Combined with the extremely slippery floors, it often felt uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. My wife suffered a heavy fall in one of the restaurant corridors due to the lack of grip on the flooring and was left bruised and shaken.
The food was another major disappointment. Much of it appeared excessively greasy and heavily salted, with poor-quality cuts of meat frequently on offer. I would normally eat plenty of salad whilst on holiday, but after developing nausea, diarrhoea, stomach upset, loss of appetite and a raised temperature during our stay, I completely lost confidence in eating from the salad selection again.
The all-inclusive package was also disappointing. There were two attractive cafés within the hotel which appeared to offer a much better standard of drinks, yet neither was included in the all-inclusive package. As a result, throughout our stay we never had a proper coffee and were restricted to drinks served in paper cups. The only decaffeinated coffee available within the package was instant coffee, something we have never encountered at other Jet2 4-star hotels. Some decaf filter did show up but hardly any of the staff knew how to use it!
We also experienced maintenance issues, including a leaking air-conditioning vent in our room which left visible water staining on the wall. The beds were like lying on concrete and we had to request mattress toppers, they had none so ended up with a duvet underneath.
To be fair, not everything was negative. The evening Entertainment venue is outstanding and the shows too. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful, the room was clean and the housekeepers are wonderful and awesome people, the luggage manager Spehna was outstanding, and Daniel, the Restaurant Manager, provided excellent customer service when concerns were raised. He met with us personally and offered a goodwill gesture which was appreciated.
Unfortunately, however, individual staff members could not overcome the wider problems affecting the hotel.
We have travelled with Jet2 for many years and typically take several Jet2 holidays each year. This hotel fell well below the standard we expect from a 4-star property and we would not return.
We also hated Malta, way too densely populated, expensive and dirty, rubbish everywhere all over the island and they've got the nerve to charge 16 quid to even enter it.
Never again.
An honest, raw review from someone freshly checked out .
Good - Firstly the area and location is good, I feel compared to neighbouring over crowded positions. The hotel is located right on the seafront with its own little beach area
the room was okay! We were room 4, stairs and a quick lift but the hotel is huge like a maze. The balcony was small but did the job of drying towels etc.
it was clean through out.
bed was comfortable.
Mediocre -
the food, as most all inclusive were a bit repetitive but edible and a lot of choice. It is however impressive how much is cooked and how clear the HUGE dinning area is. Well done waiting staff! The timings for food was wide which is good.
one night we came back later than expected from a trip so missed main dinner, we tried the other two restaurants and “because we didn’t make a reservation they were fully booked” ^tumble weed in the room… dead! again, I’m not asking the staff to personally pay for my meal, just let us eat. One lady argued with a gent who didn’t speak many languages for ages - whilst there was food literally about to be put in the bin on the side.
as another traveller pointed out, you get an envelope on arrival and a piece of ham in two pieces of unbuttered bread at 1am. We had to ask how to get to the room and the guy looked at us like we had two heads - it’s just basic information.
compared to other all inclusive, waiters would come to take your order at the beach / pool and keep you topped up - but this was never done and we really missed it. I don’t want to lift a finger - I worked hard for this break!
Bad - The pools are far too small for the few thousand guests they have staying.
Loungers ARE reserved daily despite their being signs around this is never enforced.
I also experienced smoking, speakers and drinks by the roof top pool with security either turning a blind eye or staff not bothering with those that broke the tules.
Finally; and a little stinger this is - I have never experienced an all inclusive resort cut your band off after check out. Most flights out of Malta are 10-13 hours after check out and this behaviour hinted that they did not care about your custom or wellbeing (even a pass to access water etc would be good) considering we couldn’t check in for 8 hours after our check in due to limited flights we didn’t feel this was good value for money.
We didn’t try the spa but it was quite expensive - again in Egypt you can get a 60 minute massage for £20. But expect to pay English prices (£100) for an hour.
Over all, I’m not disgruntled for the package we got. (Paid £480 pp for 5 nights) a week before we flew. But it could’ve been that bit better to improve feedback generally.
Our stay had a few positives, but overall it was a disappointing experience. The location of the hotel was very good and convenient. The rooms were spacious, kept very clean throughout our stay, and the housekeeping staff were always friendly, helpful, and happy to provide extra towels or anything else we needed. Unfortunately, the service at reception was poor. At check-in, we had booked two rooms, but we were simply handed the room keys with no welcome, no information about the hotel, and not even basic details such as how to contact reception if we needed assistance. It gave the impression that the staff simply didn’t care. The food was another major disappointment. The same dishes were served every day for the entire 10-day stay, with very little variety. In addition, both my husband and I felt unwell after eating the pizza on two separate evenings, which was concerning. On the day of departure, we requested a late check-out and were only able to keep the room until 2:00 pm at an additional charge of €10 per hour. Overall, despite the good location, clean rooms, and excellent housekeeping team, the lack of customer service at reception and the poor food quality meant this was not a great experience. Unfortunately, we would not choose to stay here again.
