- Matilda Hotel

This hotel is situated in a wonderful quiet area on the island overlooking the picturesque Porto Zoro Bay. The beach is 500 m away, the centre of Vasilikos is 2 km away, whilst the airport and Zante, where the main harbour is to be found, are approximately 9 km away.
The beach hotel comprises two buildings in a style typical and traditional for the island architecture. The buildings are connected to each other by a tiled corridor. The hotel is surrounded by olive trees and comprises a total of 53 rooms. Facilities in the hotel include a lobby with a reception, hotel safe, 2 bars (one inside and one outside) as well as a dining room. There is a playground for younger guests and room service is additionally available.
The rooms are simply decorated yet are aesthetically pleasing and luxurious at the same time enjoying charming views over the sea and surrounding mountains. They all come with an en suite bathroom, a direct dial telephone, satellite TV, air conditioning, central heating and a fridge.
There is a swimming pool with a children's pool in the outdoor complex.
Bed and breakfast stays may be booked by guests.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The review I'm leaving is to warn people not to look at all ofbthe 5 star reviews and think this is a great hotel. It's not. It was a last minute booking fir us and had we paid full price I would have given 1 star. First the positives it is a beautiful location and very quiet. On arrival the staff had plated us 2 meals as we had arrived after dinner service had ended. The hotel allowed us to keep our room on the last day and check out late due to our return flight home being an evening one. The garden view and small private garden seating was nice. Now the bad points. The hotel is tired and the repair is quite poor. The bedroom furniture is very old although functional. The bathrooms are basic and tired. The shower holder in our bedroom was broken meaning we had to hold the shower head. The taps were quite scaled. The rooms were serviced daily but unless the towels were left in the bath they did not get changed. The stairs down to our room had bird droppings on the floor at the bottom of the stairwell their fir the whole week and not cleaned and there was a nest of swifts in the pool toilets. The pool toilets were also in poor repair and generally dirty. The pool area whilst lovely is tired, the pool is nearly 3 metres deep which we found unusual for a holiday resort. There is a lack of sun loungers and again some in old condition. One of the parasols was damaged and only being held by one screw. The accessibility ramps by the pool have tiles that have come loose and are taped with yellow tape but unsecured. On the Thursday we had a van arrive at the pool area clearly jetting blocked drains. Nobody came to warn us of this and the noise from the van wasn't what I would expect. The smell was awful, and once complete no effort made to clean the tyre marks of the van nor where the hose had been after jetting out what I assume to be the sewerage. The bar area situated outside is functional however the staff, particularly the daytime staff are very lazy sitting on their phone. When I asked fir a coffee cup I was told they were finished. It was because the barman was clearly too lazy to walk to the restaurant and get more. It was a one minute walk, or call another member of staff to fetch more. I didn't see one piece of cleaning take place in the bar area during my stay. The worst part of the hotel is the restaurant. The cleanliness is poor. Dead flies on the window sill, the jam and nutella containers for breakfast never changed, lack of cutlery, the dishes served for lunch and dinner edible but limited variety and not great quality. The tables rarely being wiped, the serviette holders dirty, the serviettes in the fruit and cutlery as liners never changed, coffee machines and water dispensers never cleaned, the hit counter not keeping the food hot, the highchair being used by other guests was a complete health hazard. Over the last couple of days we noticed an increase in staff particularly kitchen staff. I realise the hotels reply will be defensive and that we should have told them but it is there job to makes sure the cleanliness of the hotel is excellent being a 4 star hotel. It really is such a shame as the hitel could be realky lovely. Finally location, it is in the middle of nowhere. The local supermarket, restaurants, beach, and local town are accessible only by a 15 to 25 minute hike on a road with no pavement or the town a 20 euro taxi. Thus to say I definitely would not return.
Liked it here, not the best location but you can go on trips by bus, far from sea and shops, food is good, but best are bar employees jenny and Panos
Location: not the best Atmosphere: best Rooms: good Value: good Cleanliness: great Service: best
We had an amazing stay in Matilda Hotel. It has a beautiful location with an incredible view, but the highlight for us was definitely the food. The buffet was excellent at every meal, with plenty of fresh, tasty options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every day there was something different to try, and everything was delicious.
A special thank you to the manager George, and Panos and Jenny at the evening bar. They were always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy to help with anything we needed. Their positive attitude and great service made our evenings even more enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a peaceful place to relax and truly enjoy your holiday, this hotel is the perfect choice. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Zakynthos!
Super service for my family anywhere
Don’t believe the reviews you read.
We got guilt tripped by the manager asking us to give a 5 star review otherwise he wouldn’t receive his bonus.
I do sympathise, but I also sympathise with people who work hard all year to have a nice holiday payed for with there hard earned cash. Therefore I am giving an honest review.
If you want a quiet holiday and do nothing but sit around the pool then this place will do for you.
The food is awful. 1 star at best. I wouldn’t feed it my dog. There’s absolutely no variety. The same food is in for lunch and whatever gets left at lunch gets used at evening meals. The cheapest possible ingredients are used and if you don’t like cheese then you’re definitely struggling to even put anything on your plate.
We have eaten out every single day for breakfast / lunch / dinner. Due to how bad it is. Not great when we paid for all inclusive. But I cannot bring myself to pit that slop in my body. It’s awful.
Rooms are clean yes but very dated which is fine. The shower is tiny and doesn’t drain well at all. You have 5 mins to shower otherwise it overflows and with the bathroom having no extraction it takes a day to dry out. If you’re a big guy you will struggle to have a comfortable shower.
Bar staff didn’t make us feel welcome at all. Almost made me feel like I couldn’t go to the bar to ask for a drink.
Value for money is really poor in my opinion. I’ve stayed in many hotels across Europe over many years so I’m well experienced. I’d rate this 2 star ⭐️ ⭐️
