The four-star Mitsis La Vita Beach Hotel is a warm beachfront city hotel in the city of Rhodes, next to the aquarium. Besides its ideal location, the hotel promises moments of relaxation, both in its 126 comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms as well as in its public spaces. The hotel offers a variety of activities and leisure choices for unforgettable holidays on the island of the Knights, as well as a series of water sports, such as water ski, jet-ski, banana boat, parasailing, pedal boats and canoes, rings, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, diving and boat trips.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We recently stayed here for a seven-night half-board holiday, and while there were some positives, overall we left feeling disappointed.
Starting with the positives, the location was great, and one member of staff in particular deserves recognition. The ginger-haired lady working at the bar was absolutely lovely throughout our stay. She was friendly, welcoming and genuinely seemed to care about guests, making every interaction a pleasure. The lady making the pancakes at breakfast was also very kind and always had a smile on her face.
Unfortunately, the negatives outweighed the positives.
Our room door had a large gap underneath it, meaning every conversation and every person walking down the corridor could be heard. Guests regularly returned to their rooms between 2am and 3am, waking us every single night. We came home from our holiday more tired than when we left.
We were never told that beach towels could only be collected between 9am and 12pm, so we spent our first day without towels despite later seeing other guests being given them outside of those hours. Better communication from reception would have prevented this.
Speaking of reception, most of the staff came across as rude and uninterested in helping guests. We never felt particularly welcome.
The breakfast room was very cramped, with tables packed closely together. If you arrived after around 9:30am, many tables were still dirty, and we were often seated in a corner surrounded by brick walls with no windows or natural light. It wasn't a pleasant atmosphere to start the day.
Breakfast itself was also quite limited. I ended up having pancakes every morning because there wasn't much variety. While they were nice, a wider selection would have been appreciated.
Dinner was generally good, but we were disappointed that even bottled water had to be purchased separately and was considerably more expensive than nearby shops. On our final evening, we'd run out of Euros and paid by card instead. The member of staff questioned why we didn't have cash and made us feel uncomfortable despite the fact we had paid in Euros every other evening.
The swimming pool was another disappointment. The photos make it appear much larger than it really is. In reality, it was very small, constantly busy, and we didn't end up using it at all.
Because our return flight was late at night, we asked reception whether we could have dinner before leaving and were told no, despite also missing dinner on our arrival evening due to our delayed flight. We weren't offered any alternative on arrival, not even a sandwich. As a result, despite paying for a seven-night half-board holiday, we only actually received five evening meals.
One thing that particularly surprised us was that, as we were checking out, we were offered a gift in exchange for leaving the hotel a positive review. After our experience, this felt inappropriate. We'd much rather see the issues raised by guests addressed than incentives offered for favourable reviews, as it makes it difficult for future guests to judge the hotel based on genuine feedback.
Overall, while there were a couple of fantastic members of staff who made a positive impression, the poor communication, lack of flexibility, uncomfortable room, disappointing breakfast and generally unfriendly service meant this wasn't the relaxing holiday we had hoped for. We wouldn't choose to stay here again.
The hotel was very good❤️❤️❤️❤️
A perfect location and nice people!!!!
Amazing location. Staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful. We had a late flight and they were very happy to store our bags for us.
We are very sad to be leaving Mitsis La Vita today after a 10-day stay. We have had a brilliant time- the rooms are very clean, bright & have everything you need. The location is fantastic- very close to both sides of the island & consequently- both coastlines, great restaurants , supermarkets & bus travel. The staff have all been exceptionally friendly, efficient & very helpful. In particular, Lucy & Stefania - our lovely housekeepers who left beautifully presented towels every day for us; Iannis (who was the first welcoming face we had at 2am the morning we arrived!), Despoina (who has been extremely efficient & friendly). The catering staff (special mention to the super smiley grill chef!) have been nothing but welcoming every morning. Although the Mitsis Grand Hotel is currently under construction next door, there was very little noise, so it didn’t bother us. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mitsis La Vita & would definitely return!
