Golden Odyssey

TripAdvisor Review
Greece, Europe
Kolymbia

Surrounded by palm and olive trees and a delightful garden area with four fountains, the attractive Golden Odyssey hotel complex comprises eight buildings on 25,000 m2, including a main building and various bungalows. It features a variety of excellent services and amenities such as a daily shuttle to one of the cleanest beaches of the island, which is about 950 m away. The centre of Kolymbia with numerous shops, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs can be reached within a short stroll. This hotel is ideal for guests wishing to spend a beach holiday in one of the nicest areas of Rhodes.

TripAdvisor Review
Family holiday hotel, helpful staff and clean.

Very clean rooms. Turned down each day. Staff helpful and polite. Plenty of food throughout the day. Help yourself to local beer, wine and soft drinks all day. At 6 the bar opens and the same applies but you can also get local spirits and a few cocktails. There is also a drinks menu that you can purchase from if you want something different. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar snacks, something for everyone. There are some staples that are always available as with any all inclusive and a few dishes that change. Plenty of fruits and salads too.

The silly plastic cups that you serve your own drinks in are annoying. Flimsy and small so you need to get up n down to replenish. I know glass can’t be around the pool but there are better plastic cups out there and there would be less plastic waste too!

Plenty of pool options during the day and slides. Kids entertainment of an evening. Table tennis in the shade and tennis courts available (way too hot when we were there for that).

15 min walk to main shops - one on site is hugely and ridiculously expensive. Supermarket and smaller ‘corner shop’ 10 min walk with reasonable prices.

Beach is 10 mins max on free shuttle bus or a 25 min walk. Shingle getting in and out so take beach shoes so you can get in and out the sea with ease. Sun beds can be hired from €10 a day for 2 with umbrella if you are staying at this hotel. Towels can be hired for the beach (and pool), €10 euro each but this is refundable. Plenty of water sports at this beach too.

There are some lovely restaurants and bars in the main shopping area that are well worth a visit when you fancy something different. Reasonable prices too.

2* at best!

Location is a 15 min walk from nearest strip, which is small but ok, there are bars and restaurants and tourist shops with a beach at the very end which is nice. The atmosphere in hotel Is non existent. There is one pool with music on occasion but the pool is looking green- I think it may be down to the slime on the bottom which is slippery if you dare get in and also the pool surface is peeling away so you sometimes have a bit of pool surface floating around! The other two pools are clean and are cleaned daily but no music, much smaller and not as many sunbeds- but these were our preferred choice. Rooms were small but clean, we had clean towels everyday, floor was swept & beds made but I don’t think there was any attempt to clean sink or shower the whole 10 days! Value for money is not great. We booked with on the beach and was told it was a 4* this is a 2* at best! Food was hit and miss, we ended up eating out the majority of the time. We’d buy croissants in a nearby supermarket for breakfast and have a late lunch early dinner down at the strip. The ‘all inclusive’ is misleading when it comes to drinks- there is a choice during the day of fizzy soda, water, rola cola, orangade, lemonade, lemon & lime soda or 2% beer on tap it all comes in tiny plastic cups so you’re constantly getting up to refill. There is no fresh juice it’s all sugary syrupy drinks which aren’t pleasant. You can get other alcoholic drinks after 5pm at the only bar on complex. The complex itself is same, some areas are tired and worn, the pool snack bar is filthy and serves deep fried food- which is questionable. My experience of 4* AI is of a much higher standard- this hotel is basic and not what it’s made out to be! We spent a lot of money staying here and a lot once we’d arrived going out to eat and day trips because it’s a boring hotel to stay in.

Underwhelming Hotel Facilities

We arrived at the Golden Odyssey Hotel late in the evening and were greeted at reception. After check-in, we were simply given basic directions to our room and left to find it ourselves in the dark. After a long journey, a little more assistance would have been appreciated.

The rooms are very basic. I was genuinely surprised that there wasn’t any complimentary drinking water in the room, which I feel is a basic necessity. The toilet paper was also extremely poor quality.

We paid extra for a swim-up room. While we knew the pool was shared, we didn’t expect it to be treated like a public pool by the entire hotel. People would spend the day directly outside our room, which meant there was very little privacy and made the upgrade feel like poor value.

The food was another disappointment. The meals were very repetitive, with little variety from one night to the next. Although the restaurant staff were friendly, welcoming, and worked hard, the menu itself lacked choice and quickly became monotonous.

The all-inclusive drinks offering was also underwhelming. Most branded drinks cost extra, leaving only tap wine, beer, and very basic spirits included. The soft drink dispensers were unreliable too—on more than one occasion, selecting Coca-Cola resulted in sparkling water coming out instead. Even when they were working correctly, the fizzy drinks had a very cheap, artificial aftertaste, especially the cola. To make matters worse, the all-inclusive service ends at 11:00 pm.

The advertised entertainment didn’t live up to expectations either. A quiz involving taking shots isn’t what I would consider quality evening entertainment.

Cleanliness was inconsistent throughout our stay. Some areas were well maintained, while others were not. Another downside was that all drinks were served in flimsy disposable plastic party cups, which felt cheap and wasn’t particularly environmentally friendly.

Overall, I would rate this as more of a 3-star hotel than the advertised 4-star. The hotel was underwhelming and didn’t provide the standard we expected. Thankfully, we spent most of our time exploring Rhodes, which is a beautiful island with plenty to offer. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t choose to stay at the Golden Odyssey Hotel

Very chill and nice

Very good hotel with really good customer service. Especially bartender Dimitri, he's very nice and supportive. Always there for you almost no matter the time, if you're sad, if you're drunk, if you're crazy, he'll always help you through it no matter if its through words or drinks. I loved it alot.
