Utopia Blu

Utopia Blu is an absolutely fantastic hotel, the grounds are beautiful, the rooms are modern, and well kept and the majority of the staff are fantastic at what they do!

The hotel is in a fantastic location, at the top of the Tigaki strip, which this time of year is fairly quiet. But there’s some lovely bars and restaurants outside the hotel, and you’re only 20 mins from Kos town on the bus. We didn’t use the hotel beach, but know from driving passed it’s quiet far along.

What impressed us the most on this holiday was the food, contrary to some reviews about the variety of food over the last two weeks the variety and quality has been incredible. Actually some of the best all inclusive food we have ever had.

Each night in the buffet is a different theme, whether it be Indian, Oriental, Greek night, Gala night etc… along side this, they still do pastas, pizzas, burgers, salads and more for those that may be picky or have dietary requirements. Lunch was the same! Brilliant range. The desserts weren’t an exception either, equally as brilliant. Some nights desserts were made freshly In front of you.

I’d also like to give a special shout out to Rafaella who worked the bar in the main pool area during lunch and in the evening. She worked exceptionally hard, and out performs her peers. It amazes me how she walked around with a tray full of full/empty glasses out pacing the boys (who seem quite lazy and child like at times) around her.

Now there were a few niggles that let the holiday down, some of these were addressed with the Guest relations manager who we thought was brilliant, but the hotel group need to make amendments. This is not a cheap hotel, but the service we sometimes receive is cheap.

Firstly the drinks; as many have stated are weak. We wanted to give the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately these reviews are correct. The alcohol is cheap, inconsistent and their batches vary. They know about this, but still hand it out to their guests. We’re not on holiday to get blind drunk, however it’s nice to enjoy ourselves and have a little dance. We did none of this.

Secondly, the (main) bar is probably the location where you’ll spend majority of your holiday. Socialising and enjoying the entertainment. But the male staff are lazy, dismissive and rude, makes the experience most unenjoyable. They also hold the main evening entertainment in this bar, the entertainment needs its own venue. The bar is too small, and crowded and doesn’t let the entertainment team reach their potential. More seats are needed, and the partitions and plants around cause obstruction so you cannot watch.

I also find the experience with the entertainment team quite frustrating as lots of people seem to have nothing but good to say of them, but we also found them quite dismissive and ignored our group during the holiday. Even went round the pools with watermelon and just walked straight past us 4 times. I’m not going to chase them down, but it’s nice to treat people equally. This isn’t to say however that their evening shows aren’t fantastic, apart from the games night that is..

Room facilities, you’re given two bottles of water on check in and then after that you may or may not get a new bottle of water. The hotel groups policy is that you have to go to the bar, and have your bottle refilled (you do not have to pay for bottled water as someone else stated), however once again for the price you pay to stay here fresh water daily would not go a miss. I’d prefer fresh bottled water daily to the bottle of wine that was in the room on check in. We had no trouble asking for more. This policy however is not stated or written anywhere in your room.

The doors in the bathroom, these need to be changed to sliding doors. The bathrooms are tiny! You cannot fit between the sink and the bathroom door when open or multiple people using the bathroom.

I’d like to say though we honestly had a fantastic holiday at Utopia Blu, and would love to return. Would be great to see improvements made for the next time we book.

We stayed at this hotel with family and friends for a wedding, which was fantastic. The hotel itself is great, clean, tidy etc. However the food was very repetitive and cold most of the time. The one thing that made the holiday was the entertainment team they were amazing. Ryan, Danny and Kiki never stopped all day providing us with games, dancing and really making us laugh. We will truly miss you and the rest of the team. Thanks guys you really did make this holiday special for us all xx

My partner and I have just returned from a really lovely stay at Utopia Blu and would definitely recommend it. The hotel was clean throughout, the staff were friendly and welcoming. We also thought the pools were great. The location was also ideal for visiting other areas of the island and made it a great place to relax and enjoy our holiday.

Our only suggestion for improvement would be to introduce designated smoking areas. As non-smokers, it wasn’t always pleasant trying to relax by the pool or in outdoor seating areas when people nearby were smoking. Having specific smoking areas would make the experience more enjoyable for non-smokers while still accommodating those who do smoke.

Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and really enjoyed our stay and we would certainly like to come back!
