Never again

This is nowhere near a 4 star. Rooms are spacious, but dated and beds are like a plank of wood. Shower is in the bath with a rubbish shower curtain and no room to move while in the shower. Safe = extra cost Pool is ok, fairly small but ok to cool down in. Food seems plentiful at the buffet but is fairly bland and overcooked. Bar is limited to local drinks only, named brands are extra. Local drinks are weak and tasteless, bought our own from a shop in the end as the bar stuff isn’t worth drinking. I don’t drink much, but I like to drink well. Pool towels are €10 deposit and can be changed with the lifeguard, but only every couple of days and not after midday. You are provided a bottle of water for the room, but that’s it, any more and you have to buy it. There’s a bar and sunbeds on the beach, about a 10 minute walk away. Soft drinks are part of all inclusive at the bar, you have to pay for alcoholic drinks, which are the same rubbish included in your package at the hotel. The Greek taverna, which you book but is free, is the buffet food served to you on a plate! The 5 star bookable option, is the adjacent hotel buffet and no better with the same wine etc.. that wine is not worth drinking.

A wonderful week

We had a wonderful week, the hotel is very clean and spacious. The rooms were big and very clean as were the bathrooms. The rooms were cleaned daily. The staff were very friendly and helpful, reception were quick to help with all our needs. The bar staff were great and very friendly. The food was very good, lots of choice and different themes every night. If you want to eat at the taverna make sure to book early, we missed out (our fault) The pool and bar was also great, what made the holiday extra special were the entertainment team, Nate and Leah, they were such good fun and had loads of things going on, with no pressure to join in. Nate is very infectious with his passion and enthusiasm, aqua shakey shakey and water polo being daily highlights. The evening entertainment was also great fun. All in all a great week away.

My only criticism would be the shower rooms (men’s) need a little update. The shower doesn’t fix to the wall and the tap is stuck on permanently.

Fab family holiday

We left the hotel yesterday after a lovely chilled out fortnight in the sun. There was no kids club or mini disco, and that was fine for us as our kids are young teenagers. If you have kids wanting that type of entertainment you can use the kids club in the hotel next door. There was fun around the pool each day and entertainment in the evenings at the pool bar. The pool allows floaties and ball games and there is a chilled vibe. The food is your usual AI buffet, maybe not the best cuts of meat, but there was always lots of options. The salads were amazing and the breakfast was good with lots of healthy options. Ice cream is available all day at the pool bar and is delish! We visited the ‘Greek taverna’ one night during our stay and all enjoyed the food. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was ideal for us, a double apartment with 2 rooms and 2 balconies. We had a beautiful sea view which was a lovely surprise. Our room was cleaned daily and we had lots of towels. We hired pool towels and had them swapped as often as we needed. We visited the Aquapark at the sister hotel twice during our holiday, you have to pay for this, €36 for our family. It was worth it as the kids enjoyed the slides and we were comp’d a free drink at the pool bar by the receptionist at the hotel. It’s only a 5 min walk if you use the lift in the Panorama hotel so we just went back to Hippocrates for lunch rather than paying to be all inclusive at Aquapark. We visited the Lido waterpark during our stay - we’d also recommend that for a great fun family day out. Visiting Kos town was a bit of an expense, there is a shuttle bus but it costs €15 each way for our family so adding €30 onto the cost of our night out before you’ve even bought a drink or dinner. Worth it though as the town is beautiful with so many gorgeous bars and restaurants to explore. We went on a fantastic 3 Island boat trip and would recommend the Katerina boat. Lovely food, stunning islands, fun, and limited numbers so everyone has lots of space and their own sunbed. Zia for the sunset is spectacular but we also loved an after dinner walk down to the beach for sunset, lots of people do it and some of the beach bars are still open if you want a drink. We really have had a beautiful holiday on a beautiful island and would love to visit again some day.

Nice hotel, good location

We are currently on our last night of a 7 night stay at Hippocrates, it was a last minute booking (booked the day before we travelled!) The hotel is clean, staff are friendly and the room is spacious and clean - shower gel and hand soap is provided in the bathroom. The food is good, plenty of choice. There is a beach 2 mins walk away - looks out for the cow and her calf on the way (tethered with no shade unfortunately 😔), they enjoy a scratch and an apple! There's a nice beach halfway between the hotel and Kos; Paradiso Beach. It's 20 euros for two sunbeds, an umbrella and 2 drinks. The sunbeds are comfy and there's free WiFi. If you are lucky enough to get room 117 look out for Dave, the little black kitten who lives under the balcony. He enjoys a bit of fish/meat but not cheese! Please keep an eye out for him, he's all on his own and very little 😩 Hippo Hotel, please consider trapping, neutering and releasing the many feral cats you have on your property 🙏🏼

bad experience ever

I have never written a hotel review before, but this time the hotel exceeded even my worst expectations.

When we arrived, my first impression was that, for a 4-star hotel, it looked very tired. Walking down the corridor, I noticed that parts of the ceiling looked as if they could fall at any moment. The carpets were badly worn, and there were air fresheners everywhere. I thought, “Well, we’re only here for a short stay, it will be fine.”

The room itself was very old. It was obvious that everything had simply been painted over instead of properly renovated. It also wasn’t particularly clean. What surprised me most was that there were no toiletries at all—not even small bottles of shampoo or shower gel. There was absolutely nothing.

The following day, after returning from the beach (which is advertised as a two-minute walk away, although it’s closer to five), we found that the room had not been cleaned. The bed had simply been made, but the floor hadn’t even been swept. I went to reception to ask about housekeeping. They told me that towels are changed every other day, and from what I understood, the bed linen is only changed if you specifically ask.

The next day, as instructed, I left all the used towels on the floor so they could be replaced. When we returned to our room at around 5 p.m., the same dirty towels had simply been picked up from the floor and hung back on the hooks. It felt incredibly disrespectful.

I went back to reception and asked if they really thought this was acceptable. Thankfully, they eventually brought us clean towels later that evening. I also asked when the bed linen would be changed and why the room wasn’t being properly cleaned. I even said they could leave me a broom and I would sweep the floor myself. They promised everything would be cleaned the next morning.

The receptionist smiled while I was explaining the situation, including the fact that our dirty towels had been hung back up. I couldn’t believe she found it amusing. I told her it wasn’t funny and that guests deserve to be treated with respect.

They promised us a “super cleaning” the following day, but once again, almost nothing was done. Perhaps they mopped the floor, but that was about it.

That evening, when I got out of bed, the floor was covered in ants. There were tiny ants everywhere, and even flying queen ants. Once again, I went to reception. Someone came to spray the room with insecticide and told us to wait. The next morning I reported the problem again, and once again the answer was, “Tomorrow.”

Everything was always “tomorrow.” Tomorrow you get clean towels. Tomorrow we’ll deal with the ants. Tomorrow we’ll clean the room. Meanwhile, you are expected to live with dirty towels and ants crawling all over the floor.

What made the situation even worse was the attitude of the staff. Whenever we complained about cleanliness, they smiled or laughed instead of taking the problems seriously.

The hotel’s swimming pool was another disappointment. Even the lifeguard was arguing with the cleaning staff because the pool and surrounding areas were covered in green algae and clearly needed proper cleaning. It was obvious that only the reception area was maintained while the rest of the hotel was neglected.

I was genuinely worried walking through the corridors because parts of the ceiling looked loose enough to fall.

This is, without question, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I have stayed in many 3-star hotels that offered far better service and cleanliness than this so-called 4-star hotel. I honestly don’t understand how it received a 4-star rating or so many positive reviews.

The food was good, the bar staff were excellent, and the entertainment team did a fantastic job. They were friendly, professional, and hardworking.

Unfortunately, everything else was a complete disappointment. Reception, the department that is supposed to help guests, did almost nothing to solve problems. We even met another couple who couldn’t get clean beach towels. Guests are told that beach towels are changed every other day, but in reality they are only exchanged during a very limited time in the middle of the day, making the whole process extremely inconvenient.

I would never stay at this hotel again, and I certainly cannot recommend it to anyone expecting the standards of a genuine 4-star hotel.
