TripAdvisor Review
A lot of room for improvement.

I was really excited to come to this hotel due to the perception, images and videos I saw online. I was even ready to book to come in October but as soon as I came I realised this wouldn’t be the case.

Pros:

  • The hotel has one of the most beautiful spas I have seen in a hotel. It is airy, neutral and intimate. They have a sauna and hamman which you can use on pretty much a solo basis for 15€. This is great as I have been to other 5* hotels on the island and elsewhere which charge 70-90€ for use of their spa. The use of the facilities is free with a treatment. The relaxation area is gorgeous.

  • The spa team were the friendliest. Kyriakos; the spa manager was always welcoming and helpful. Maria Maria Maria… what can I say. She is the best massage therapist I have come across over many years. She was attentive, detailed, precise and it’s as if she gave this ‘loving’ towards my body. The whole treatment was a beautiful ritual with scented oils, sprays and mindful elements. I wish I could take her home! I booked in for two 90 minute treatments with her.

Lastly, Ornela; the beautiful yoga teacher. I enjoyed two yoga classes with her on the rooftop. She is such a sweet, friendly and smiley lady and it was a pleasure to meet her. She has a really caring nature.

  • The evening dinner team were friendly and helpful. Demetrios; the manager was friendly and helpful and there was a young boy in the evening restaurant who was always smiling and polite.

Cons:

  • First and foremost is the inconsistency in customer service. I have visited many 5* hotels and Theros customer care is no where near 5*. When I arrived at 12pm midnight, the receptionist was rude and dismissive. Had no conversation with me, no welcome, no information of the hotel and its facilities and offerings. She took me to my room and didn’t even offer to help up the stairs with one of my bags.

I emailed the hotel earlier to request an iron and ironing board in my room which they said is possible and when I came to my room it wasn’t there. I called the reception lady and she didn’t apologise. I said can I have one in the morning early and again was dismissive saying “What time - 5am, 6am, 7am?” whilst laughing. I asked for 7am. She calls at 7am and says this is your wake up call. I said I didn’t request a wake up call, I wanted an ironing board. She called back saying they don’t have these in the hotel… I asked this same lady later on in the morning to join yoga and she said she doesn’t know if it’s start at 10am or 9am. She said it’s at the spa. I said I don’t know where the spa is as she gave no info to me when checking in. I also caught her scrolling on her phone with her AirPods in as well as a few other colleagues on their phones.

  • No filtered daily water in room. No mini bar. No herbal tea. No kettle. Espresso machine. Another guest said she stayed in two rooms and complained as both machines had a dirty ‘film’ where the water was held.

  • The majority of the Breakfast team were slow, talking and didn’t look like they wanted to be there bar a few ladies making the coffee and a Thai looking woman who was always smiling. However, one morning I requested vegan avo on toast which was laughable (they use this fake avocado cream), and she brought me this with 2 eggs which she didn’t realise wasn’t vegan. On check in, you fill in a form asking dietary requirements - Does none of the food team check what you write on there?

Breakfast was poor with a lack of variety, taste and a lack of vegan options. For dinner I requested a tomato sauce with pasta which I was charged 22€ for a salty dinner.

  • No bar service at the swimming pool. Always have to get someone’s attention if someone is there or scan a QR code by your parasol. The QR code never worked for me. I’m at a 5* resort. Why is everything on a QR code? What if you don’t have a smartphone?

  • The suites are nothing special. There is a hotel called Mosay a 2 minute walk away which looks exactly the same. The private suites with swimming pool are not private!

The shower is open air with no where to place your soap. If you like privacy, there is no door to the shower. The soap amenities were in used up plastic bottles which looked old.

The hotel is a nice design, but there are many hotels nicely designed on the island. If you want exceptional service, consider The Ritual, KOIA or Oku. All of these differentiate themselves with exceptional customer service throughout, thoughtful written daily letters, takeaway gifts and a genuine ability and desire to help.

Total relaxation.

We spent a lovely relaxing 2 weeks at this resort. All of the staff are friendly , attentive and professional. Our room was kept very clean as were all areas of the hotel. Lovely choice of food at breakfast especially the pancakes. We spent every morning at the Euphoria pool which was a little bit quieter with less sun beds, the only problem was people putting towels on beds and then not returning for 3 hours plus. I had 2 treatments at the spa and both were excellent. Kos town was a short 30 minute flat walk away. We hope to return very soon.

Fantastic place to kick-start vacation

We spent a fantastic week at Theros. The hotel has an ingenious architecture which lets a breeze pass through the building complex and keeps it nice and cool even on the hottest days. Several pools, so always possible to find a chair. Tastefully furnished lobby area and apartments, and friendly staff! Breakfast was superb, the lunch menu is not long but the dishes are tasty and we ended up having our lunches there most days. The hotel has a calm location a short distance from the city centre. There is a bike rental a block away, and riding a bike is a real winner in the hot climate, if you like to move around a bit, or go to town for dinner. We usually don’t go back to the same place again, but seriously consider coming back to Theros. Thanks for a great start of our holidays!

Every meal was a delight—from the delicious breakfast to the outstanding dinners, where every dish was beautifully presented and full of incredible flavor.

Thank you for an unforgettable experience. We leave with wonderful memories and look forward to returning.

Luxury price tag, disappointing service

This is a beautiful hotel, and the rooms are spacious, stylish and well presented. Unfortunately, our stay was overshadowed by a series of issues from the moment we arrived.

We booked the Eros Suite with a heated private pool and jacuzzi. On arrival, I was shocked to be presented with an invoice and told that we had not paid and would not be given access to our room until the bill had been settled. The holiday had been booked through TUI and paid for in full many months earlier.

Reception showed me payment records with credit card details I did not recognise and asked me to produce my booking confirmation. Even that wasn’t initially accepted. Eventually, a member of staff checked with the reservations office and confirmed that payment had in fact been received, adding that “this happens a lot.” This conversation took place in the middle of the open reception area in front of other guests, which was both embarrassing and stressful. Although the mistake was eventually corrected, it left me unable to fully relax for the rest of the holiday because I was worried the issue might be raised again.

I made a formal complaint to TUI, as I was genuinely concerned there were problems with the hotel’s payment system. I was therefore extremely surprised when TUI informed me that the hotel had claimed they had offered us complimentary drinks and compensation for the mistake. This was simply untrue. We received only the standard welcome drinks given to all guests and nothing further. I was also told the hotel manager had been looking for us to apologise, despite knowing exactly which room we were staying in.

Another major disappointment was the private pool. We specifically booked this suite because it advertised a heated pool, yet the water was freezing and completely unusable. We asked reception on two separate occasions if the heating could be turned up, but each time we were told, “I’ll check with maintenance,” and nothing changed. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was for the luxury of having a heated private pool, so not being able to use it was extremely disappointing.

Breakfast was ok, the poached eggs and avocado from the à la carte menu was lovely. However, service was consistently slow. Most mornings I had to find my own cutlery and borrow salt and pepper from neighbouring tables because most tables hadn’t been properly set. We also regularly waited over 30 minutes before anyone took our order or brought drinks.

The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the lack of any meaningful attempt to resolve issues once they had been raised. Whether it was the payment error, the unusable heated pool or simple service requests, we were repeatedly told someone would look into it, yet nothing changed and there was no follow-up. Having since looked through other guest reviews, I also noticed the hotel appears not to respond to negative feedback, which unfortunately reinforces the impression that guest concerns are not a priority.

When you’re paying more than £5,000 for a week’s stay, you rightly expect a high standard of service. Being wrongly accused of non-payment, finding that the advertised heated pool was not actually heated, and repeatedly having reasonable concerns ignored meant our experience fell well below what we expected from a luxury hotel. Although the hotel itself is beautiful, good facilities alone cannot make up for poor customer service, and unfortunately we left feeling disappointed rather than relaxed.
