Just returned from the Holiday village Atlantica Mikri Polis Kos. Hotel is stunning and the beach is lovely.

Hotel is clean, rooms spacious, housekeeping efficient. Multiple pools, however they are not heated. Sea is warmer.

Sadly, the hotel is let down by the food. The main buffet the food is awful, and cold. The Italian buffet food looks great but cold. We opted to have breakfast at the restaurant next to the pool again food is cold.

Bar cocktail are awful, I asked for a mocktail told I have to pay.

Luckily, the gyros van, pizza/pasta lunch spots the food can not be faulted. The HV Diner al la carte is the best food on site.

Would not recommend to stay on an all inclusive basis.

We’ve just returned from a 7 night stay here for our honeymoon with our 3 year old. We did plenty of research prior to coming and a lot of the reviews suggested it was a hotel worth coming to so we chose to come here over a long list of other hotels. We wanted somewhere that was going to provide enough entertainment for our child whilst still allowing us to relax and enjoy ourselves as a newly married couple.

We’ve tried to remain fair with our review of the hotel as we completely understand that everyone has different standards and expectations but we wanted to provide honest feedback.

Food - we were very disappointed with the food options. There was plenty of choice for us as adults but nothing we felt we could make a meal out of. It was all miscellaneous foods, nothing really went with each other we just felt like we were eating random foods every night. The children’s buffet was a lovely touch as the kids had their own section to go up and help themselves. However after 2-3 days we quickly realised it was the same food every night. Now our 3 year old is a big foodie and will try everything but even he noticed it was the same every night, and he didn’t want the same, he wanted to try something else. The choices most nights were fish fingers, chips, chicken nuggets, pasta or a ham and cheese toastie. Luckily we took advtantage of the à la cartes and we went into town for a meal one night to make sure my toddler wasn’t living off chips for the week. It got really busy in the evenings which is expected but there just seemed to be a lot of shoving, people dropping plates, people not queing for food, just pushing in. Now I know that’s not the hotels fault but manners cost nothing and I didn’t really see much from some guests which made me dread going down for dinner some nights. Again not the hotels fault but just didn’t help the experience. One night the staff were going around and faffing with the serving spoons, just mixing food around and walking off, and I just felt really put off by that. Again, I really don’t want to sound picky but personally for us we didn’t enjoy the experience at the main restaurant.

Drink - I was on soft drinks for most of the holiday but my husband said the beer was average, cocktails looked okay. We heard one gentleman infront of us one night ask for a non alcoholic mojito and they said they would have to charge him for it as it was a premium drink. He double checked this with the staff member and he confirmed that this wasn’t included in the all inclusive…. but an alcoholic mojito was. We couldn’t understand this as all he was asking was for a mojito without the alcohol? Just seemed really confusing to us so we played it safe and just stuck to beer and soft drinks.

Breakfast - would definitely recommend walking to the other side of the hotel and eating in the Italian restaraunt as they have a seperate buffet. It was so much more relaxing and calm in there, and a lot more choices in my opinion.

Pools - they were FREEZING. Absolutely unbearable. We couldn’t get in them. The child’s shallow pool was just manageable as that was ankle height but even then because it’s shaded it was still cold! We spent most of our week in the shallow kids pool which my toddler enjoyed. The only downside was the pools didn’t open until 10am and some mornings it was a challenge entertaining our son until they opened!

Beach - we spent most of the week here where our son was happiest. You have to walk back and fourth into the hotel for food and drink though. Only takes 2 minutes but it would’ve been nice to have something on the beach to utilise for food and drink but again I’m being picky here. The beach is very pebbly so make sure you wear beach shoes! My husband hurt his foot on the first day on a large rock under the water; getting in and out of the sea is a challenge as it’s just unstable pebbles and rocks underneath! The sea temperature was perfect though and there was never a struggle to get a sunbed.

Local area - we walked into the town one morning for an explore and a coffee - took 10/15 minutes and was really nice. Lovely locals and plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants and gift shops. I really enjoyed walking here. Nobody pressured you into going into any shops so it was really nice. We had a few trips into town and it was lovely.

We also hired a car for the day and this was such a good idea. We went to Zia, Kos Town, Paradise Beach, and we left at 9am and got back at 5pm. It broke up the week really nicely and was just lovely to see more of the island.

Accommodation - We requested a low level tool but sadly didn’t get one. Our room was fine. We had a sliding door to seperate us and our son, and he was comfy and slept well with no issues. The AC didn’t seem very powerful though, took ages to feel like it was cooling us down! The balcony was lovely really spacious, only negative was that there were always birds sitting there and there was a lot of poo on the ledges. Can’t be helped but just wasn’t the nicest thing to see when you step out onto the balcony in the morning! The hotel is very hilly and our room was on the top of the steepest part so getting up to the room without flagging down a golf buggy was a challenge! Baring in mind we had a toddler in a pram and then a set of stairs to get up to the room as well as the hill up to the room. My calves were killing me by the end of the week. But the room was nice, enough room for us but nothing special.

Entertainment - we really enjoyed this. Our son loved getting involved and got invited on stage. Was really interactive and was a great way of tiring him out after a long day. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic so you can’t really ask for more!

Overall we had a lovely week away. Sadly we have said we won’t return. We personally didn’t feel that the hotel was anything above 4 stars.

We’ve gone back and looked at the 5 star reviews on trip advisor and have noticed that a lot of them refer to the spa itself, which is great to see. However this has obviously ranked the hotel higher so please do bare this in mind when reading the rating of the hotel overall.
