This hotel and bungalow complex located in Stalis (Crete) offers its guests a unique brand of warmth, hospitality and friendship. The place has 127 double and family rooms in different buildings and it lies only 200 metres away from a beautiful sandy beach and is very convenient for the entertainment and shopping centre in the village itself. There are several swimming pools (also 2 for children) in the grounds and other on-site amenities include a gymnasium and a hot tub. Guests can enjoy themselves playing billiards and table tennis. Other organised activities include bingo and quizzes. The main restaurant offers Greek and international cuisine, and can organise lunch baskets on request, and 3 bars serve coffee, cocktails, etc., the main bar until late. All rooms and bungalows have individually-controlled air-conditioning/heating and a furnished balcony or terrace, etc.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Great spa, professional friendly staff and treatments are done to prefection!!!
Excellent.. simply Excellent. Staff are Amazing and Hotel is very clean.. our 3rd visit.. many more to come.. Looking forward to 2027..
Stayed for a week in a family room. The room had a separate bedroom for us and 2 sofa beds for our teenagers in the other area. We arrived very late at night and were incredibly grateful to be met with kindness, our bags being carried to the room and a light meal. The room was dated but spotlessly clean - I couldn’t fault it at all, the cleaners came daily and it was well maintained. We were pleased to have air conditioning in both spaces and our room was convenient for the family pool.
The pool area is a little tired and some of the sun beds need replacing. The family pool offers soft drinks you can serve yourself, beer and wine - if you want cocktails you have to go to the adult pool. This was not an issue for us and our children were happy with the snacks provided throughout the day. I found the bar tender at the pool bar could be grumpy one day and talk to you the next so it was a little frustrating. It is a light entertainment programme poolside with 2 young men running waterpolo and ping pong sessions during the day. I found it challenging to relax as one of them would sing along to their music on a mic at random intervals (a karaoke session for one ). I was also concerned by the uncensored songs they played at the pool area around very young children with explicit language and mature content.
The restaurant and food were lovely. Everything was fresh with an abundance of variety available. I was pleased to see that everyday there were traditional Greek options available and that the food was regularly replaced and checked. The staff were very attentive and the restaurant manager Giorgios was dedicated to ensuring everyone was happy and that service ran smoothly.
The evening entertainment was light - we liked this. There was a quiz one night, bingo and live Greek music with nice areas to sit in.
I booked a treatment in the spa following a neck massage by the pool and had a wonderful massage from Mariela. She was very attentive and my back and shoulders felt amazing afterwards.
The hotel has posters announcing that they are having a massive renovation over the winter and will return with a name change, more restaurant options and better pool facilities next season. I feel this is the action that is needed to reflect my thoughts on our holiday and I wish you all the best with this. We enjoyed our week together as a family and returned well rested for another school year ahead. Thank you!
This is a pleasant hotel, although the family room I was given was very dated, it had two balconies, front and back, with the room being accessed via a stone spiral staircase (glad my 15 yr son has been weightlifting to get the cases up and down).
Travelling with 3 older children (15,13,11), we found the hotel nice enough. The family pool area is what disappointed us, the pool is tiny, and in hindsight I should have realised this from the photos. The larger adults only pool seems bigger and so much nicer. Never had a problem with getting sun-beds however, but as others have said, the water in the family pool did turn our swimwear yellow! The beach is only a 5 min walk away however and the beach is absolutely stunning with crystal clear waters so I’d recommend going there instead of the pool. I would say they could do with keeping the sunbeds and tables a little cleaner, but the grounds around are immaculate. They also do snacks/chips/hot dogs etc here at lunchtime with a bar area.
The main food is provided in one buffet restaurant. All very lovely and the staff do an amazing job in here. We did get a little tired of the same food rotation after a week, but it is all fresh and there is also a pizza chef making fresh delicious pizza throughout service. Drinks are beer and wine and various soft drinks all good quality for an all inclusive in my opinion. It’s help yourself with these.
Evening entertainment is very low key and quite underwhelming for the most part. There is one bar with a barman who seems to have his favourite clients and is very pleasant to, but if you’re not in his gang be prepared for an unfriendly exchange with a few grunts as he prepares your drinks. Here you can get cocktails. One evening we did have a traditional Greek dance evening by the family pool area which was very authentic and enjoyable, well done to the dancers, it was great to see them keeping their traditions alive and involving the audience!
I’m not sure what the hotel’s official star rating is, however, from my experience in the past, I would rate this hotel a 3 star. This is based on my family experience, it may well be different if I’d experienced it as an adult as the adults only area seems much better.
Overall we enjoyed our holiday however, thank you Katrin Hotel and Bungalows
