The hotel is in the perfect location very close to the long sandy beach of Rethymno, which is only 60m away, while a variety of restaurants, shops, cafes and tavernas can also be found in the immediate vicinity. The centre of Rethymno, with the old quarter, is located just 500 m away. The walk there takes guests along a beautiful scenic coastal route offering fantastic vistas. Public transport can also be accessed in the immediate vicinity. In addition, Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport in Heraklion is 75 km away.
This newly built apartment hotel consists of 58 studios and apartments spread over 5 floors. It has a lobby with 24-hour reception and lift access. Dining facilities and a TV room are also offered.
The accommodation is modern in style. Individually adjustable air conditioning and heating, fully-equipped kitchenette, mini-fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, balcony, direct dial telephone, music channel, TV, safe deposit box, en suite bathroom with shower and hairdryer feature as standard.
Guests can enjoy a variety of water sports on the long sandy beach of Rethymno, which is just a few minutes away from the hotel. There is also a swimming pool with poolside snack bar, sun loungers and parasols. The beach also comes equipped with sun loungers and parasols.
Breakfast and dinner are available as buffets.
As mentioned by all other guests, Melrose hotel has it all. Wonderful stay. For us we don't like the smell of smoke when eating and at breakfast there is an open space near seating where two guests used to smoke. We had to move seats as the smoke drifted into the eating breakfast area. Apart from this we had a wonderful stay.
Great hotel in the perfect location. Without doubt the best bed, pillows & bedding ever. Welcomed by a bottle of water & wine in the fridge & a bottle of raki. Lovely quiet air con, large walk in shower, soft towels, tv with netflix, plug sockets in the right places, good balcony with side sea view& safe. The towels & bedding were changed regularly& the room was cleaned every day. Big shout out for the breakfast. Usually bed & breakfast means ham, cheese, bread etc, . This was what you would get in a 5 star all inclusive. If you wanted it, it was there. Really had to stop myself eating for England! Pool area was lovely, you could have drinks delivered to your sunbed & there was a pool bar for lunch time food. Staff were great, helpful & recommended some restaurants for us. There was also a gym & hydropool. 15 min flat walk to town, couple of tavernas just round the corner if you get there late & don't want to go to town. Beach 2 minutes walk, some with free sunbeds if you order food from the relevant taverna. Great water sports & a lifeguard. The reason I have given it 4 stars rather than 5 is: there was nothing Greek about the hotel. It would have been nice if there had been some pictures, artefacts etc. The Bar also shut at 6 which i found strange. Wouldn't expect it necessarily to be open till late but we sometimes like a drink b4 we go out in the evenings & there were no bars in the immediate vicinity. Also there were only 2 drawers in the whole bedroom, no bedside cabinet drawers, no dressing table drawers, which meant we had to keep a lot in our suitcases which is annoying when you are there for 11 days. All in all a brilliant hotel & we would def stay there again.
We had a fantastic stay at Melrose Hotel in Rethymno and would happily return! We stayed here in mid-June, and everything exceeded our expectations. Our room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary bottle of white wine, and there was also traditional raki waiting for us as a welcome gift, which was a lovely touch. The location was absolutely perfect. The beach and promenade were only about 100 meters away, and the promenade stretches all the way to the Old Town. There were plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafés just around the corner, making it easy to enjoy everything Rethymno has to offer. The pool area was excellent and never felt crowded. There were always plenty of sunbeds available, regardless of what time we came down, which made for a very relaxing holiday. Breakfast was also very good, offering all the classic options such as eggs, bacon, and sausages, along with a wide variety of spreads including Nutella, jams, and other condiments. There was also fresh fruit available every morning. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with any questions or requests. We especially enjoyed spending our evenings on the balcony. It was very cozy and relaxing, and despite being close to the road, the traffic noise was minimal and never disturbed us. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and highly recommend Melrose Hotel to anyone visiting Rethymno. A perfect combination of great location, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, and excellent facilities.
Had a wonderful stay here. The room was spacious and cleaned every day. You can make coffee or tea in your room if you want and there’s a bathrobe, which I love, because it gives me a luxurious feeling. Staff is super friendly and will do eveything to help you. Breakfast is a buffet with great variety. If you can’t walk that far there are a few tables close to the buffet, so you can easily move your food and drinks from the buffet to your table. My favourite moment of the day was drinking a capuccino in the morning sun by the pool. Late May/early June you don’t have to get into a fight to obtain a sunbed. Even in the afternoon there were enough sun beds available. The hotel is close to the beach and a lot of restaurants. Old town is walkable if you don’t have disabilities, but you can also take a taxi for 6 or 7 euros. Going out to eat is much cheaper in this part of town than old town.
I stayed at the Melrose Hotel in Rethymno, Crete, from 28 May to 1 June 2026, during a work trip, and we had a very pleasant stay.
The hotel is beautiful, welcoming, and very well designed. The hall and common areas are particularly pleasant and functional, with indoor and outdoor spaces nicely connected, making it easy to relax, have breakfast, or even work in a comfortable atmosphere.
The location is excellent: the sea is just about 20 metres away, and the surrounding area is very well served by good restaurants and cafés.
Breakfast was abundant and carefully prepared, with a cook preparing fresh hot dishes, from poached eggs to pancakes. The fruit selection was excellent, and there were also many options for vegetarians and vegans, including a rich variety of seeds and healthy choices.
The outdoor pool area was very pleasant and well served by an excellent bar; we especially enjoyed the smoothies by the pool. The indoor pool was also beautiful and welcoming, with hydromassage and sunbeds, and it remained open until 9 p.m.
Our room was spacious, bright, and sunny, with a sea view. It had two separate areas: a bedroom and a sitting area with a desk, an armchair, a bar corner, and an espresso machine. This layout was very practical, especially during a work trip. The mattress was excellent, with a very comfortable topper. The bathroom was large, bright, and spacious, with a hydromassage bathtub and an excellent supply of towels, bathrobes, and amenities.
The staff were excellent: always kind, helpful, and genuinely committed to making our stay as comfortable as possible. For instance, they kindly opened the gym a little earlier so that we could train before leaving for work.
The Melrose Hotel is an excellent choice: comfortable, elegant, functional, and very welcoming. I felt very well looked after throughout our stay. Thank you for everything.
