Overlooking the azure Aegean Sea, this family-friendly hotel is perfect for a holiday of sea and sun. The hotel is located in the small town of Lavris, just an hour outside of Heraklion with its excellent museums, historic old town and incredible ruins of Knossos. Guests might also explore Rethymno's narrow streets, fortress and lighthouse just 20 minutes' drive away. Alternatively, guests can stay at the hotel to enjoy swimming and soaking up the sun in its seven saltwater and freshwater pools and two private swimming coves. The comfortable guest rooms are bright and airy with sea or garden views, and guests can choose between the main, buffet-style restaurant with both local and international options and two specialty restaurants serving Italian and traditional Greek cuisine. The spa offers massage services as well as a sauna and hot tub, and the hotel has a children's and teen's club, all for a wonderful holiday in Crete.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
This is my second time staying at this hotel. I had a great experience during my first visit, which is why I decided to return. I’d like to highlight a positive change: the staff has become even friendlier and more welcoming. Everyone smiles and communicates politely, which creates a wonderful atmosphere.
However, a few minor but frustrating details during this stay have slightly dampened my overall impression. Today, I visited the Lavris Grill Restaurant and encountered two unpleasant situations:
First, there was a fly floating in my glass of water.
Second, when I stepped away from my table for a moment to get some more food, a local cat (there are quite a few roaming the grounds) jumped onto my chair and started eating seafood directly from my plate. I only found out because the guests at the next table told me when I got back.
Additionally, I had a frustrating experience at the bar. I asked for a classic Long Island Iced Tea and a very simple custom mix (gin, cherry juice, and ice). The bartender refused to make both, stating that he only takes orders strictly from the menu. I believe that in a hotel of this level, a good bartender should know classic cocktails and be accommodating enough to mix a simple drink upon a guest's request.
Overall, the hotel is genuinely good and definitely deserves a solid 4 stars. But it’s these little service flaws that prevent me from giving a perfect rating. I hope management takes this feedback into account.
We have just spent a week here and really regret not making it two! Loads of pools and the water park is a massive hit with our 5&7 year olds! The restaurants on site are great with plenty of variety for the adults and plenty of beige food for fussy eaters. Every pool as a bar so it’s easy to get regular drinks if you’re all inclusive. We stayed in one of the standard bungalows which is more than enough for the four of us. We had a pool less than 1 minutes walk from our room as well as the water park in about 5 mins. The staff are all extremely welcoming and friendly and all made an effort with our kids. We didn’t take full advantage of the entertainment on offer as our kids aren’t too into that yet but they were never bored. We also took advantage of the local “train” to the nearby village and lottie watersports. Would definitely come back! P.s. the sunsets are glorious!
The resort is set out brilliantly, with beautiful landscaped gardens, from the moment you arrive you feel relaxed from a glass of sparkling wine or flavoured water to the easiest check in i ever had, to your luggage taken to your room and a tour of the resort, we stayed in the garden room and was surprised to find we had a garden and sea view, the room is generously sized with fridge and the important kettle, the shower was excellent, housekeeping was excellent and our room was spotlessly clean, the restaurants were fab, highly recommend, the food was lovely in the 3 restaurants you reserve which was simply done on the app, the main restaurant was pleasant with the usual all inclusive options, and you can get a hot drink at lunch and dinner which is unusual but a great plus. The resort is spotless and the staff work hard to keep it clean throughout the day, there is a supermarket that is very reasonable priced, there are bars throughout the resort open during the day and water hydration towers so no you don't need to queue at the bar. But what really makes this resort are the staff, every single person we met was lovely, friendly, happy to chat and genuinely interested in getting to know you, the animation team were very present and interacted, and they put on great day activities bit jealous i wasn't a kid and highly entertaining evening shows, the water park is great but doesn't impose on the rest of the resort. Loved the diversity of the staff and they are a credit to the hotel and really add to the experience, the beach areas are clean with little coves to swim and snorkel in, with sunbeds and umbrellas, the star cafe has excellent food and drinks and a water hydration station. There are also toilets and a changing room. I would highly recommend this resort.
