Comfortable, Well Run and Perfectly Located for Heraklion
We had a very comfortable stay at Aquila Atlantis. The location was excellent, with an easy walk into Heraklion Old Town and more restaurants, cafés and bakeries nearby than we could possibly try. Even Starbucks was close by.
Our room was spacious enough for two people to move around comfortably, and we especially liked the bathroom layout, with an open vanity and shower area and a separate toilet closet. The bed was comfortable and a little on the firm side, which suited us well. Housekeeping was superb, and we appreciated receiving fresh bottled water each day.
The rooftop pool area was another nice feature. The pool itself was not heated, so during the cooler weather we mostly used the lounge chairs for reading or brought up drinks and snacks for cocktail hour. It was a very pleasant place to relax.
Parking was a huge help. The lot is secured, and you need to ask the front desk to open the gate before driving in. It is only about half a block from the hotel, so we found it easiest to stop near the gate, have one person walk to reception, and then drive in once the barrier was opened.
The hotel also seemed very well organized. There were times when we saw large tour/cruise groups and huge piles of luggage in the lobby, but it never felt particularly crowded, noisy or chaotic. The staff handled the groups very efficiently. Providing umbrellas for guests during the rainy weather was also a thoughtful touch.
My only real criticisms are minor. The elevators are quite small, and the “water view” room description was a bit generous. Yes, we could see the water, but the room did not really overlook it. Much of the view was across rooftops, nearby buildings and the working port, with the sea beyond.
Overall, Aquila Atlantis was comfortable, clean, well run and very conveniently located. It worked extremely well for our stay in Heraklion, and we would happily stay there again.

Good location - bad room design
Good location. Horrible (and I mean horrible) gym. Bathroom design is awful (shower floods the toilet area). No drawers for storing clothes. No ice machine. No parking is ever available, so had to pay to park in a city lot.
Beautiful hotel very close to the center
We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a tour. The hotel was spotless and maid service always prompt . It is an attractive building and rooms are recently renovated . We had a balcony with a harbor view . Beds were comfortable and the A/C worked fine . Breakfast was varied and tasty . There was a nice pool deck on floor 6 with great views but the pool is frigid since it’s not heated . There is no real bathroom . There is a water closet and a stall shower when you first walk in . Shower was a rain shower . 5 minutes walk was the archaeology museum and a square filled with restaurants. We enjoyed our stay A solid 4 star hotel not 5.

Disappointing Breakfast Service Despite an Otherwise Pleasant Stay
We stayed for four nights and had breakfast at the hotel every morning. Overall, everything else was good, which made our breakfast experience particularly memorable.
On all four mornings, we watched as tables to our left, right, in front and behind us were served coffee promptly. Our own table, however, seemed to operate under a rather different breakfast arrangement. Not once during our four mornings was anyone kind enough to come over to offer or serve us coffee.
It was quite impressive, in a way, how consistently this happened over four consecutive days.
Of course, we would not wish to jump to conclusions about the reason. However, the only noticeable difference between us and the surrounding guests was that we are Asian, which naturally made the experience rather uncomfortable to reflect on.
We had hoped to experience the warm Greek hospitality we had heard so much about. Perhaps hospitality is simply interpreted differently at this particular hotel.
Thankfully, the rest of our stay was pleasant. The breakfast experience, however, was certainly an unexpected takeaway from our visit.
