We arrived into the hotel on the Sunday evening and went straight into reception to check in. The check in was fine and quick. We booked the 2 bedroom family room. We where given the keys and taken to the room, which was not far from the reception. The guy who took us to the room showed us the room and how to use the AC. It was clear from there that the room what not what was advertised. The family room was not 2 bedroom but 1 bedroom which the children using the lounge area, where there was a single bed and the sofa was turned into a bed. This also meant that there wasn't any cupboard space for the children to place their clothes and had to live out of their suitcases for the week, leaving us with 2 suitcases in the middle of the lounge and clothes everywhere. As much as you try to keep it tidy and organised, the back of storage, because it wasn't a 2 bedroom with a wardrobe or drawers, made it difficult. The room also smelt very strongly of damp. We couldn't see any damp, but it smell was strong.
On the plus side, one of the balconies was spacious, the other was not and literally faced a wall less than a meter in front of it. The AC was very good and the fridge is a good size so we could keep drinks and bits of food in.
The grounds are lovely, and the pool area is nice, although the beds and tables could do with a clean. The food was 'ok' but I couldn't eat there everyday but we usually found something we liked. The all inclusive wines are not nice and the beer is watered down but tbh, after the first day, we decided just to eat out. The shop has the basics, which is not too expensive.
To get into Rethymno it is 23 Euros in a taxi. Although you can book the bus which is 11 euro per person but you need to book this well in advance, as in, a couple of days before or you won't get a space. There are plenty of places to eat and get drinks when you get there. We ate at a different restaurant every night and didn't have a bad meal. The beach is beautiful and not too busy. We paid £30 for 4 beds for the day. The great thing about the beach, the guys running the beds also bring drinks etc which they get from the restaurants across the street. The prices are the usual prices you would expect to pay.
Overall, we had a good stay, there are some good and bad points of the hotel. I would just make sure you have a room that suits your needs by calling them beforehand. We did try to get a change of room but didn't hear from them again. We also tried to get a late checkout and again they didn't help. I would advise the ladies on the reception to be nicer or kinder to their guests. They all seem miserable if you asked anything. They don't like to be bothered with guest questions. The grounds are lovely, and the location and views are really nice. Food is average, shop has everything you might need, and if in doubt, go into Rethymno old town, you can't help but have a fab time there.
We have just returned from Rg village, I was worried after reading some reviews, but I can honestly say I've never had a better holiday as a family, we spent the week having the best time in all the pools, only downside was the beer, but the holiday wasn't about that! If you want to go away as a group of friends and get drunk, this isn't for you but if you want to go away chill, switch off and enjoy the surrounding this is the place, witnessed some rude/loud guests throughout the stay, the staff handled them very well, all the staff we came across were very polite, helpful and would do anything to help, the kids pool isn't the biggest but our boys aged 3 and 6 had the best time in there! I was worried about the food because I'm a extremely fussy eater, but every night the food was different and taste delicious, overall I can't fault this place.
After reading some of the reviews on here I was slightly nervous that we had done wrong in booking. We had a fantastic week away and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes... this hotel is a bit far out, if you want to go and enjoy nightlife etc, stay closer to Rethymon. If you only drink spirits from 9am to you pass out, be warned - You cannot have spirits on all inclusive before 7pm.
I cannot complain about the food, each meal there was a decent choice and it all tasted pretty good to me. If you are a gluten free vegan you might be better in a self catering where you can buy, cook and eat what suits. If you are not a picky eater then the food is great.
I even spoke to the famous Peny who is mentioned in so many of the bad reviews and she was nothing short of lovely and polite. I suspect those who say she is rude and ignorant have been told they can't do or have something they wanted.
At the end of the day this is a great hotel I cannot find anything to mark them down on.
We were here for 7 nights. We had a wonderful time here as a family of 3 and was not fussed about entertainment every night at all, we were two adults and one toddler. The facilities are lovely and the family children's pool was my son's favorite throughout his time at the hotel. The taxis and buses were easy to book
Despina was very helpful booking the buses for our day trip to Retheymon and showing us which bus goes to the beach. Despina is so lovely and happy and she really made our holiday, she makes the best ice coffees which I'll miss going home and also ice cream which my son demolished quickly. She made us feel very welcome throughout our whole stay. The atmosphere at the bar with music and the cat visitors was lovely. Please take a visit to her when you are here as she is so lovely.
Jaspreet was also very lovely, our toddler was very interested in his golf buggy and was so kind with arran letting him go for a small ride on it. He was slightly made our trip along with Despina. Both lovely and friendly staff of RG Village Crete.
Rooms were cleaned using apps to book and were always cleaned to high standard, food was lovely and something there even for a picky toddler at times.
We had a great time here and look forward to come back in future!
This is not 5 star at all, not even close.
We just got back from 7 night from RG Village, if you are looking for retreat with nature view and nothing else it could be a place for you but if you expect more from holiday, like entertainment, good hot food with varieties, live stations, sport courts, beautiful room, shiny bathroom, decently equipped gym, hot meals, decent desserts, free shuttle to town, this might not be a place for you, look further Or else you will be disappointed.
However, the staff are good, hardworking and ready to help. The air-conditioning works well. Beautiful sunset view from the terrace.
